to be honest male-female idol friendships were way more common back in 2nd gen KPOP. like if you think about it a lot of artists were comfortable with each other stage and used to interact if they knew each other but nowadays even if artists are friends with each other, they will act like strangers in front of cameras because they are too scared of rumours or "scandals". also, just generally, there was a lot more collab stages and work between artists of different companies. for example the show WE GOT MARRIED was really popular and many fans enjoyed it because they got to see their artist interact with another. however, such a show could NEVER be popular or even supported these days because of fans taking this way too personally. one of my favourite artists who till this day are comfortable with opposite-sex interactions is SHINee. if you were to ever watch SHINee content you would see how the boys are openly friends with other artists. also, kudos to the majority of the SHAWOL fandom for maintaining that line between artists on-screen lives and their personal lives. !
