    Thank you so much for your concise layout tips, they are extremely helpful. You don't run hours of Let's Play but concentrate on the essentials, that is exactly what I needed. I have been struggling with my first two maps and now I hope I can get the third a bit better thanks to these hints.

      Glad you like them! I try to cover what I can as concise tutorial videos, but also there are many little tutorial tidbits that get thrown in during the lets play videos.

    I just made my first iron smelting setup, 4 smelters and 8 plate pressing thingies. When I was done, I sat back and looked at it and concluded: Holy hell I need to look up how to do this. It took me 6x4 squares in size with spindly belts all over the place :D

    Definately compact and easy to follow. Started with similar, but now leave more space so can upgrade better. Power not a concern....if it is early game...you have bigger problems to deal with!

    When placing transports (belts/pipes) the F key allows you to block inputs/outputs for situations like at 17:18.

      Oh THATS what that button does! Thanks for that!

      To add to this @2:32 when you placed a belt, removed it, and reversed it, there's a direction toggle button an inch and a half above the cancel button lol

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but when making a video like this, small mistakes like that OFTEN result in full re-recordings.... the other option of physically placing it in the other direction is a better one then starting again from scratch!

    8:15 I think the direct connection, from the connector box to the Unit Storage, might let you bypass some throughput limitations?

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Connectors seem to be thruput unlimited when connected directly to storage

  • @chemie7037
    @chemie7037 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    2nd build, instead of changing to molten down the middle, you could use the first build and just have the casting 2 tiles apart of run parallel belts for iron output

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is always room for optimisations, but it also means twice the amount of belt running, which is twice the amount of power. Catch 22

      Iron i figured deserved 2 builds many of the others don't as you wont need the thruput till later in the game when you have better tech and then a whole new build will be a better option

    Greate videos, keep up the good job. I'm learning a lot for this game by you. In general how many excavators and trucks i would need to feed this build?

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depends on how close to Iron it is, depends on how fast your using it, depends on your map difficulty settings (easier means they dig more ore per tile) Also depends on if they are digging pure iron or a mix of iron and rock. So no idea really. I think I keep it feed with 4 level 1 diggers, and about 1.5x trucks to start with.

  • @hardkur
    @hardkur 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    great tutorial as usual ! only thing is im not sure if u want leave bit space near smoke stacks in case u want to run it thru air scrubber later on. cant wait for 10 different videos about specialised advanced oil refineries different versions depend on what u want to get :D

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oil is a tricky beast, i have done one on advanced diesel, and i expect ill do another one with a full smart splitter option which will take some time to make, but should be able to output every item and burn off what you dont want. still very early concept stages!

    You don't like to include scrap storage input into your smelter layouts? I've been using a balancer to prioritize scrap input over ore input and storing it next to the ore so that I can automatically feed it to the smelters when available.

  • @tnebris4448

    • @JDPlays

      If you drag the red bar down in the storage container the trucks will automatically pick it up and take it to a dump site.

    Please be aware that your body needs oxygen and therefore, you need to breathe as you speak. You're gulping down air like there's no tomorrow and it actually interferes with the audio. It's ok to breathe!!!

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yep sorry about that, tutorial videos every second counts, so generally they are fast paced. Also my microphone sometimes (far 2 often) forgets its settings, which actually makes S and C sound harsher, which also makes the whole thing sound worse.

  • @Mantose262
    @Mantose262 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am curious at around 5 minutes and then 12 to 13 minutes into the video, is there is a reason you do not just connect the left most(the one closest to the slag container) blast furnace slag belt to the second input of the slag container instead of running it all the way back to the rear of the furnace to the other three blast furnace slag belt and then running from the rear of the furnace slag belt back to the first input of the slag container?
    Seems like wasted efficiency by going the long way around.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      a choice that was made for tutorial reasons, as players may choose to have coal and iron enter from either end, and have slag exit at either end. By putting it where i did there is no uniqueness and if, then, else statements that come with the build. Honestly when i build it i run the slag belt the short way but shhh dont tell anyone!

    You have 2 exhaust pipes when you only need 1.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes true, but often the hassle of getting the pipes to exhaust its just not worth it and honestly it saves about 4 construction parts.

    • @keitholi
      @keitholi 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JDPlays For me, it's more the pollution effects. You can fit the exhaust from all 4 forges, plus the exhaust from 2 cement kilns and its a perfect 20 exhaust per 20 seconds for 10 air pollution.

  • @50shadesofskittles9
    @50shadesofskittles9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tip : Shift+F flips vertically meaning you no longer have to rotate. Great video, but this is no where near complete. There are better ways to process iron, and it doesn't cover scrap later in the game.

    • @JDPlays
      @JDPlays  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its designed mainly for early/mid game. Yes there is more tech and more options. But I fully expect by then someone knows what they are doing and can design something on their own. Sure it might not be as neat or compact, but in the end game the power requirement of 10 belt segments vs 50 belt segments is negligible

    • @50shadesofskittles9

    • @JDPlays

      I expect i to do more later game builds as the game progress, steel will be soon, and glass. But at the same time I do know as the tech increases many of these builds will have to be upgraded, which will bring new videos and challanges of taking my previous build and upgrading them and keeping the same design elements
