    In all honesty, from an Aussies POV, the last time we were a threat was when he had the job.. "the last time" not before him or after. He actually made Wallaby rugby fun to watch.

    As an aussie kid watching him coach the Wallabies I hated it, and dont get me wrong he had some shocking moments (lions tour 2013) but in the decade since he's been gone I've watched the Wallabies go from number 2 in the world to like 5th, 6th, 7th and now we're just terrible. Never thought id say this but bring this man back, when he was coach the Wallabies backline was truly amazing (our fowards always sucked except for Pocock) but our backs were the only ones on even footing with the AB's. Everyone was in their prime, Genia, Quade, Giteau, Mortlock, AAC, Mitchell, O'Connor etc. This guy really knows how to run a backline, and thats why we were 2nd in the world for 3 years. but now its just a mess, we have no talent, no spark, and we sack our great players like israel folau because they're not politically correct, like fuck the wallabies we suck now and we dont deserve to be in the top 5.

    Robbie Deans also knew that for Australia to be a dominant force on the world stage, it had to promote the game in Public Schools, the grass roots, the mongrel that is needed in the game which unfortunately is missing in OZ.
    You can always buy Superstars but even they have an expiry date. Promotion starts from the bottom up and Robbie Deans told you but you didn't listen.

    The best Wallabies coach , was by far Australian , Rod McQueen , 87% win rate in the period before and after 2000, when they had all the trophies. I liked Robbie Deans, and I am an Aussie. He was in a difficult situation. Australia has been in decline since 2003, due to relative loss of interest to RL and AFL, despite being lucky to get to the WC final 2015.

    • @andrewheath5948
      @andrewheath5948 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @peter barlow. Just keeping my friends across the ditch into perspective, Deans as our best when he was sacked? Not so McQueen. All NZ coaches have been sacked .. including those tapped on shoulder.. go or we will terminate.

      July 1998 to Sept 2001 Wallabies v Allblacks played 9 times.Wallabies won 7. Never dominated? Then what is your definition of domination? Even after, Wallabies knocked NZ out of 2003 WC.

    • @andrewheath5948

      @peter barlow not all games were one sided or boring. Wellington game 2 years ago. Perth 3 years ago , record win by Wallabies ( NZ fans call for sacking of coach) , next week NZ thrash Wallabies in Eden Park. Are games played in Brisbane boring to you ?

      @peter barlow August 2019, W 47- AB 26 in Perth, equal greatest loss by AB in history against allcomers, so 18 years of thrashing is BS. . You are very ignorant Kiwi. Fact!!

    The fact that robbie deans was unable to string more than 3 consecutive wins with the Wallabies over his 5 years as head coach, is reflective of his lack of overall coaching skills...especially when his replacement Ewan Mckenzie took the wallabies on a 7 or 8 match win streak in his first year or so and against tougher competition.
    He did however develop an amazing counter attacking game, where the wallabies backline was arguably equal in attacking prowess as the new zealand one. Genia, Cooper, Ioane, McCabe, Ashley-cooper, O'connor, Beale, Mitchell...some brilliant talent there in the backs and under deans they were at the peak of their powers.

    I appreciate how he mentions 2011 RWC Quarter final (Boks vs Wallabies) but he does not mention how lucky Aussie was that Bryce Lawrence went blind for the day. Almost hinting that it was setup for All Blacks to avoid Boks in final.

    Robbie Deans Wallaby coaching career started off alright in 2008 beating the ABs and the Boks first up. But for the next 5 years his fortunes with the Wallabies was at best average to disappointing . No Bledisloe cup wins 2008-13, a failed 2011 RWC campaign, losing to the Lions 2013. Still some memorable wins against the ABs in Hong kong 2010 and Brisbane 2011 stand out for me.
    Bottom line is Robbie Deans just didn't have those quality players in the Wallabies to be a consistent top International side like the ABs.

    There are aspects of this guy I like, and I'll always respect his coaching achievements. However, after SA won the WC in 2007 his comment was that SA 'won the World Cup without playing rugby'. And I always found that comment very disrespectful. Yes, SA has an uglier game, and we will always have less flair and less handling skills than NZ, but we still were 'playing rugby' - by the law. It revealed a sore loser side to this man that I find hard to respect.
