I know that probably nobody really cares, but I really resonate with Porter's early life. I'm a 16 year old amateur producer (also from North Carolina, funny enough) and Porter's inspirations are very similar to mine. I grew up playing rhythm games like Sound Voltex and Stepmania, which sparked a deep obsession for Japanese music in me, and my dad would also blast early jungle and trance music in the car, making me wonder how it was made. I also have had unrestricted internet access for pretty much as long as I can remember, so I was exposed to Porter's music at a very young age. The extreme melancholy and emotion I felt listening to Worlds would leave me in awe, and I've wanted nothing more since then than to make music that would capture that same emotion. I struggle with depression and loneliness a lot, and Porter's artistic portrayal of those resonates with me extremely deeply. I began producing around the same time Nurture came out using my cracked copy of FL Studio, and have been slowly improving over the years getting closer and closer to making the kind of music that captures that emotional vulnerability and beauty. I would also like to note that I am also not very musically inclined, and I don't posses a shred of the intrinsic talent that someone like Porter has, but I hope sheer practice and effort will get me there some day. Regardless, I will always love Porter, and he's affected me so much over the years. I'm seeing him live in September, and despite having nobody to go with I'm absolutely ecstatic to see him live. I know this all sounds very corny, but one day I hope to be on that stage presenting music to the world that I'm genuinely proud of. Porter is my favorite artist ever and my personal hero, ever since I heard language back when I was a kid I knew that his music was special, worlds was the first album i ever listened to that really captured my imagination and made me feel these strong emotions through music. Shelter was a gorgeous song that was one of the first songs to actually get me to tear up. I always used music as an escape from reality, often zoning out into it to live in my own head and come up with fantasies using the music as essentially background music Nurture is an album that's changed the way I view life, when I heard the first three songs i KNEW that this was gonna impact me hard and man it did. Every single song in that album has hit me on such a deep and personal level and I always get teary-eyed when I listen to all of them. I was at his Red Rocks show and it was legitimately the best night of my life. I've begun trying to start making music of my own, and after years of being depressed, I've started working out and losing weight again after being obese for years. My mental health feels stronger than ever and I feel so ready to tackle the world down and live the life I wanna live. I feel so unafraid and I largely thank nurture for that, for inspiring me to be better and do better things. For the first time in so long I feel so hopeful, alive, and happy. Even though I know I won't always be, I feel like I'll always be able to pick my self up and keep going. The music I love is no longer a background to my fantasy, but to my reality. Thank you for making this video, it was so well put together and descried the dichotomy of worlds and nurture so well. Seriously though, I mean this as the highest form of praise, this film gave me that experience and made me feel out of body several times; your creation here echoes, and also achieves, what Porter aims to do in the original quote. As someone who's always kind of been on the outside and only sort of knew of Porter though the TH-cam mixes I had been slowly falling in love with, think melodic dubstep; future bass; chillstep; etc, and only really starting to get into Porter a handful of months ago, it's been a beautiful phase of discovery finding not only all of his music and interviews, but films like this. It's crazy how fast I went from only sort of recognizing his name, to him now being one of the most influential artists in my life all within the span of maybe 4-6 months. Side note, I've noticed this channel is basically blank outside of this masterpiece, with how masterfully produced this video was I have to imagine you maintain a separate, main channel?

this video really just demonstrates how porter encapsulates these raw emotions into these albums. with "worlds," i grew up from it. with "nurture," i grew WITH it. the whole concept of "worlds" is so so so cool, and i still think about the album announcement/sea of voices dropping!! "worlds" brought me to tears at 13. now, at 21 (or when it dropped at age 19 at the time), it not only inspired me, but gave me hope. i definitely cried lolol,, i was in a dark mental state 2 years ago, and that brought a lot of joy for me. thank you for making this video, dawg
Porter Robinson is one of the very fucking few who can create such intense, intimate, real visions of beauty in everything through song and visual that you just have to sit back and marvel at it. Ever since catching on with Language, tearing up to music for the first time with Sad Machine, tearing up again with Shelter and getting so immersed with his journey in Nurture, Porter's been such an inspiration. If it's any artist I can say I'm grateful to be alive to see, it has to be Porter Robinson. Thank you for this amazing video for reminding me of that :')

Language and Easy are so unbelievably nostalgic. I miss that sound so much. Those two songs really got me into the artists I listen to today. Ophelia, and Anjuna carry on that melodic dubstep sound.
Watching this after listening to Porter's new song Cheerleader. It wasn't until I watched this video that I realized that I've been listening to his musical journey since the spitfire days also. I wish I was able to put my thoughts on his music (or even think as deeply about it) as eloquently as this video. It's truly inspiring to me to see where Porter came from and where he is now. You should be proud of the work you put into making this video because it allowed me to see a side of a musician that I never saw before. This is also art even if you might think this is just summarizing the life of another person.

hi there!!! i have been a light casual listener of porter robinson over my years of growing up as a human (found divinity as my first track in 2016) and more of the worlds tracks from there, got a little bit into nurture, and have regained interest now that smile!:D has released. this was a wonderful breakdown of porter's discography, highlighting the personal anecdotes behind the tracks and how its actual music elements reflect it, i have a new profound genuine appreciation for porter as a musician as this video came to an end. it was put together so well, as a new fan i feel a lot more understanding of his highly credited status in the edm community. i live in australia and i am waiting dearly for the tour dates because I have decided i would love to go see his live show for this new era. I am excited and definitely feel closer to his music as a new fan!!

I got to see Porter live on his Nurture Live Europe tour in 2022, and god that was the best evening of my life! I still replay the clips a year later, and I will always cherish that experience (my favorites has to be Something Comforting, Shelter, Language X Unfold, and Get Your Wish)
Nurture has made me cry several times. My wife started listening to Porter & I haven't heard any of his work since Worlds and I'm so thrilled he's still making music. This album touched me in so many different ways. Amazing video by the way.
Hey, I just wanted to say thank you. I discovered Porter very recently and honestly never even paid attention to EDM at all until I stumbled across the Worlds album. But it hit me really hard, and I've been diving through his repertoire for the past few months until eventually this video popped into my feed. The context was extremely satisfying from the perspective of a new enjoyer, and even if it might sound silly I teared up quite a bit just watching this. Good stuff.

Your Virtual Self video popped up in my home feed, and this video was referenced so I wanted to watch this as well. I don't really comment on videos, but as someone who has also religiously followed Porter since Spitfire, this was such a joy to watch someone share what makes Porter so special as an artist in great detail. honestly, i've been dealing with music production for about 2-3 years and last year my friend sent me the "nurture" album and said "it's my favorite album these days" but i didn't care and listen. i used to make beats under the roof of rap, but it was generally not liked and among other producers, no one wanted to be very close with me except for a few people. i also didn't know what i was doing. i was constantly losing my enthusiasm. was i doing it to "be cool"? or was my goal to "make money" or "become famous"? what was my goal after i became famous? what was i doing this for? i didn't know the answer to any of these. and this year (i think last month) i discovered Porter by listening to the album "nurture". Iifelt most of the feelings he described in the video and wanted to convey at that moment. i felt so overzealous. he got me out of the hole i was in at the time, and i'm grateful for that. he reminded me that there is still a reason to live. then i watched every video about Porter like crazy. i started to make music in his style, i constantly improved myself, but i couldn't send anywhere because of my embarrassment. and i learned a lot with this video: actually the main point is to do what you feel. whatever you feel, whatever you want to do. i was planning to completely change my style to his style in a few days and now i realized that it was wrong. but now i think i will produce whatever comes to my mind and think with a broad vision. all i want is to reflect something on my listeners if it will be of any use to them. i don't want to limit myself to one style. I want to make people feel something with my music and have fun with my audience at concerts. sorry for the long text. but this text is a token of my gratitude to the person who made this video, Porter and those who listen to it. even if i'm 40 years old, i will continue to stay close to music.
Man, I love music and everything about it..because of that I’m not one to look into interviews with bands or artists. I feel that it can distract or create bias in my understanding of the music. Hearing the explanation of goodbye to a world almost brought me to tears..in 2016 i was in college and this girl and I created a spotify playlist. We didn’t get to spend a bunch of time together coz we were pre-med cell bio majors, so this shared playlist kind of kept us in each others heads and hearts. She added goodbye to a world and I fell in love with the happily nostalgic soundscape. About 2 years go by, ups and downs, scandals etc. It was finally time for us to part ways. Goodbye to a world played from shuffling the playlist as I finished packing my student apartment and the song washed over me along with every memory we’d made together. I wanted so much more, as did she but we knew it couldn’t happen. The song really allowed me to imagine and accept the title. Goodbye to a world, one that her and i created together. I’ve since married and love my wife endlessly and she even knows how important that time was for me. That girl is now engaged and apparently having her wedding. Cheers to fond memories and worlds after worlds :)

I want so badly for people to understand how impactful Porter and his music have been for me. The explanation of Worlds and Nurture here are perfect. In particular Nurture and it's themes of struggle, self-care, and finding meaning in the everyday - it's just so inspiring. The timeline & editing, alongside your wonderfully emotional breakdowns of the progression of Porters career takes an incredible amount of talent! Please don’t sell yourself short on that haha! I’m absolutely a bit biased in saying that this has to be one of the most criminally underrated channels/videos/creators I’ve ever had the pleasure of coming across. I would love to hear you discuss more about your passions man! As a person who has experienced the cyclical rebirths of many online communities, hopping around from game to game. To now finding myself in my “Nurture era” after finding an incredible partner & starting a family is so surreal. 10/10 video. i've been listening to porter since worlds came out and he's one of the defining artists who helped me find myself at a young age, discover exactly what kind of art i was into and how to share this art and bond with other people through it as a very online teenager. when nurture came out i was still pushing through remote classes in college and the album was able to breathe new life into me. the dichotomy of real and virtual/fictional expressed in both albums was something that i would think about every now and then and seeing what you could put together in this retrospective brought a lot of those thoughts and feelings back. i often feel like nurture is an album for the adult who grew up in the internet, because of the lessons learnt in worlds and because of how real it is and how didactic it can be in talking about universal experiences that loners are especially prone to, like being finally afraid of death after loving for the first time. anyways, amazing work, thank you so much for it.

this is amazing. I'm from southamerica and its really weird how culture works. how the US culture works and how is perceived in other cultures. Porter with worlds was a breaking point on every kind or type of perception of the US and the whole occidental culture with their urgent call to pay attention to mental health. Worlds was a poetic way to frame the issue with mental health across all the world, but it was something that for us in southamerica was not an option or worth to pay attention since we had other problems to solve. Porter made me realize and made me aware of what was actually happening with me and my surroundings. Wanting to escape through his escapism was a message for me and my friends. since 2014, i was waiting patiently to see a worlds show and live that by myself but he never came here. he did just 1 worlds show in argentina and that was all and i wish he could be more related to our cultures too but that beign said, once second sky was announced with his last worlds show i didn't think about it twice. i paid a plane ticket, bought both days tickets and saw worlds finally and after all the nurture era and me loving his actual music, i have to say that worlds is still one of the most special albums of all in my life time. seeing worlds was magical and i was able to go with my best friends. all was aligned that day and porter thank you so much for that. after 10 years of waiting to see a show of him in my country, finally is happening. porter is coming to Chile this next month and i can't show you guys how excited i am. i just want to get a picture with him and get an album signed. he is my hero. im 30 , he is 30 too, but he is my fellow hero. thank you for the video and touching my heart.
This made me listen to Worlds again. I don't think I've listened to it for like 8 years? Such a masterpiece. While Porters newest album Smile doesn't quite fall into my taste, I'm very happy he's honest with himself and goes the direction he wants rather than his fans. No original ideas are born from creating stuff to please others, and that's what makes him great.

Recently I finally came around to understanding and loving Nurutre properly. This was an absolutely phenomenal video and one that puts together so many ideas that I have felt but have been unable to verbalize to others. I feel a similar connection that you mentioned to Porter’s music, and I beg of you to see his nurture show live. I saw his red rocks shows and that has absolutely been one of the most humbling, emotional, and borderline spiritual experiences I have ever had.

Although I’m not a OG Porter Robinson fan, I first started to listen to his music in 2020, especially his second album, and his music helped me come a long way in some form. To this day, Porter’s music still gives me a peace of mind. That’s just the best way how I can explain it. After his hiatus, I’m looking forward to his new era that he’s stepping into. This is an amazing video, my brother. As someone who's been listening to Porter Robinson since 'Worlds', this video describes how it feels like to be a Porter fan extremely well. I also very much appreciate the fact that you went out of your way to integrate Porter's music into the video in a manner that feels authentic, fits the narrative of the video and is able to send chills down my spine, because it feels like going through these milestones in my life all over again. I still remember the first times I listened to Sea of Voices, Sad Machine, Goodbye to a World, Language, and even She Heals Everything, which I completely forgot existed until this video. You were able to reignite that spark in me and send me back to those moments. This is something that many modern TH-cam videos lack, and I thank you for structuring it this way, even if the algorithm does not look at it the same way

The point of the video I was most fascinated by is when he talks about the likelihood you would find your souls mate. I’m a long time porter fan and was listening to his interview with zack sang while I was at work. In the interview he talked about his fiancé Rica. Nurture is an album that's changed the way I view life, when I heard the first three songs i KNEW that this was gonna impact me hard and man it did. Every single song in that album has hit me on such a deep and personal level and I always get teary-eyed when I listen to all of them. I was at his Red Rocks show and it was legitimately the best night of my life.
I've begun trying to start making music of my own, and after years of being depressed, I've started working out and losing weight again after being obese for years. My mental health feels stronger than ever and I feel so ready to tackle the world down and live the life I wanna live. I feel so unafraid and I largely thank nurture for that, for inspiring me to be better and do better things. For the first time in so long I feel so hopeful, alive, and happy. Even though I know I won't always be, I feel like I'll always be able to pick my self up and keep going.
The music I love is no longer a background to my fantasy, but to my reality.

Seriously though, I mean this as the highest form of praise, this film gave me that experience and made me feel out of body several times; your creation here echoes, and also achieves, what Porter aims to do in the original quote. As someone who's always kind of been on the outside and only sort of knew of Porter though the TH-cam mixes I had been slowly falling in love with, think melodic dubstep; future bass; chillstep; etc, and only really starting to get into Porter a handful of months ago, it's been a beautiful phase of discovery finding not only all of his music and interviews, but films like this.
It's crazy how fast I went from only sort of recognizing his name, to him now being one of the most influential artists in my life all within the span of maybe 4-6 months.
Side note, I've noticed this channel is basically blank outside of this masterpiece, with how masterfully produced this video was I have to imagine you maintain a separate, main channel?

this video really just demonstrates how porter encapsulates these raw emotions into these albums. with "worlds," i grew up from it. with "nurture," i grew WITH it. the whole concept of "worlds" is so so so cool, and i still think about the album announcement/sea of voices dropping!! "worlds" brought me to tears at 13. now, at 21 (or when it dropped at age 19 at the time), it not only inspired me, but gave me hope. i definitely cried lolol,, i was in a dark mental state 2 years ago, and that brought a lot of joy for me.

Porter Robinson is one of the very fucking few who can create such intense, intimate, real visions of beauty in everything through song and visual that you just have to sit back and marvel at it. Ever since catching on with Language, tearing up to music for the first time with Sad Machine, tearing up again with Shelter and getting so immersed with his journey in Nurture, Porter's been such an inspiration.
If it's any artist I can say I'm grateful to be alive to see, it has to be Porter Robinson. Thank you for this amazing video for reminding me of that :')

Language and Easy are so unbelievably nostalgic. I miss that sound so much. Those two songs really got me into the artists I listen to today. Ophelia, and Anjuna carry on that melodic dubstep sound.
Watching this after listening to Porter's new song Cheerleader. It wasn't until I watched this video that I realized that I've been listening to his musical journey since the spitfire days also. I wish I was able to put my thoughts on his music (or even think as deeply about it) as eloquently as this video. It's truly inspiring to me to see where Porter came from and where he is now. You should be proud of the work you put into making this video because it allowed me to see a side of a musician that I never saw before. This is also art even if you might think this is just summarizing the life of another person.

hi there!!! i have been a light casual listener of porter robinson over my years of growing up as a human (found divinity as my first track in 2016) and more of the worlds tracks from there, got a little bit into nurture, and have regained interest now that smile!:D has released. this was a wonderful breakdown of porter's discography, highlighting the personal anecdotes behind the tracks and how its actual music elements reflect it, i have a new profound genuine appreciation for porter as a musician as this video came to an end. it was put together so well, as a new fan i feel a lot more understanding of his highly credited status in the edm community. i live in australia and i am waiting dearly for the tour dates because I have decided i would love to go see his live show for this new era. I am excited and definitely feel closer to his music as a new fan!!

I got to see Porter live on his Nurture Live Europe tour in 2022, and god that was the best evening of my life! I still replay the clips a year later, and I will always cherish that experience (my favorites has to be Something Comforting, Shelter, Language X Unfold, and Get Your Wish)

I discovered Porter very recently and honestly never even paid attention to EDM at all until I stumbled across the Worlds album. But it hit me really hard, and I've been diving through his repertoire for the past few months until eventually this video popped into my feed.
The context was extremely satisfying from the perspective of a new enjoyer, and even if it might sound silly I teared up quite a bit just watching this. Good stuff.

As someone who only started listening to Porter with his release of Nurture, and then fell in love with his art in a sort of reverse-chronology, it was truly amazing seeing a retrospective look at his pre-nurture "era", where he comes from, and seeing the personal and artistic evolution of Porter Robinson. Your Virtual Self video popped up in my home feed, and this video was referenced so I wanted to watch this as well. I don't really comment on videos, but as someone who has also religiously followed Porter since Spitfire, this was such a joy to watch someone share what makes Porter so special as an artist in great detail. honestly, i've been dealing with music production for about 2-3 years and last year my friend sent me the "nurture" album and said "it's my favorite album these days" but i didn't care and listen.
i used to make beats under the roof of rap, but it was generally not liked and among other producers, no one wanted to be very close with me except for a few people. i also didn't know what i was doing. i was constantly losing my enthusiasm. was i doing it to "be cool"? or was my goal to "make money" or "become famous"? what was my goal after i became famous? what was i doing this for? i didn't know the answer to any of these.
and this year (i think last month) i discovered Porter by listening to the album "nurture". Iifelt most of the feelings he described in the video and wanted to convey at that moment. i felt so overzealous. he got me out of the hole i was in at the time, and i'm grateful for that. he reminded me that there is still a reason to live.
then i watched every video about Porter like crazy. i started to make music in his style, i constantly improved myself, but i couldn't send anywhere because of my embarrassment. and i learned a lot with this video:
actually the main point is to do what you feel. whatever you feel, whatever you want to do.
i was planning to completely change my style to his style in a few days and now i realized that it was wrong.
but now i think i will produce whatever comes to my mind and think with a broad vision.
all i want is to reflect something on my listeners if it will be of any use to them.
i don't want to limit myself to one style. I want to make people feel something with my music and have fun with my audience at concerts.

Man, I love music and everything about it..because of that I’m not one to look into interviews with bands or artists. I feel that it can distract or create bias in my understanding of the music. Hearing the explanation of goodbye to a world almost brought me to tears..in 2016 i was in college and this girl and I created a spotify playlist. We didn’t get to spend a bunch of time together coz we were pre-med cell bio majors, so this shared playlist kind of kept us in each others heads and hearts. She added goodbye to a world and I fell in love with the happily nostalgic soundscape. About 2 years go by, ups and downs, scandals etc. It was finally time for us to part ways. Goodbye to a world played from shuffling the playlist as I finished packing my student apartment and the song washed over me along with every memory we’d made together. I wanted so much more, as did she but we knew it couldn’t happen. The song really allowed me to imagine and accept the title. Goodbye to a world, one that her and i created together.
I’ve since married and love my wife endlessly and she even knows how important that time was for me. That girl is now engaged and apparently having her wedding. Cheers to fond memories and worlds after worlds :)

I want so badly for people to understand how impactful Porter and his music have been for me. The explanation of Worlds and Nurture here are perfect. In particular Nurture and it's themes of struggle, self-care, and finding meaning in the everyday - it's just so inspiring. He has a unique way of conveying emotions in his music, you really can feel that transcendent joy he talks of in his letter.

10/10 video. i've been listening to porter since worlds came out and he's one of the defining artists who helped me find myself at a young age, discover exactly what kind of art i was into and how to share this art and bond with other people through it as a very online teenager. when nurture came out i was still pushing through remote classes in college and the album was able to breathe new life into me. the dichotomy of real and virtual/fictional expressed in both albums was something that i would think about every now and then and seeing what you could put together in this retrospective brought a lot of those thoughts and feelings back. i often feel like nurture is an album for the adult who grew up in the internet, because of the lessons learnt in worlds and because of how real it is and how didactic it can be in talking about universal experiences that loners are especially prone to, like being finally afraid of death after loving for the first time. anyways, amazing work, thank you so much for it.

this is amazing. I'm from southamerica and its really weird how culture works. how the US culture works and how is perceived in other cultures. Porter with worlds was a breaking point on every kind or type of perception of the US and the whole occidental culture with their urgent call to pay attention to mental health. Worlds was a poetic way to frame the issue with mental health across all the world, but it was something that for us in southamerica was not an option or worth to pay attention since we had other problems to solve. Porter made me realize and made me aware of what was actually happening with me and my surroundings. Wanting to escape through his escapism was a message for me and my friends. since 2014, i was waiting patiently to see a worlds show and live that by myself but he never came here. he did just 1 worlds show in argentina and that was all and i wish he could be more related to our cultures too but that beign said, once second sky was announced with his last worlds show i didn't think about it twice. i paid a plane ticket, bought both days tickets and saw worlds finally and after all the nurture era and me loving his actual music, i have to say that worlds is still one of the most special albums of all in my life time. seeing worlds was magical and i was able to go with my best friends. all was aligned that day and porter thank you so much for that.
after 10 years of waiting to see a show of him in my country, finally is happening. porter is coming to Chile this next month and i can't show you guys how excited i am. i just want to get a picture with him and get an album signed. he is my hero. im 30 , he is 30 too, but he is my fellow hero. thank you for the video and touching my heart.
This made me listen to Worlds again. I don't think I've listened to it for like 8 years? Such a masterpiece. While Porters newest album Smile doesn't quite fall into my taste, I'm very happy he's honest with himself and goes the direction he wants rather than his fans. No original ideas are born from creating stuff to please others, and that's what makes him great.

Recently I finally came around to understanding and loving Nurutre properly.

This was an absolutely phenomenal video and one that puts together so many ideas that I have felt but have been unable to verbalize to others. I feel a similar connection that you mentioned to Porter’s music, and I beg of you to see his nurture show live. I saw his red rocks shows and that has absolutely been one of the most humbling, emotional, and borderline spiritual experiences I have ever had.

Although I’m not a OG Porter Robinson fan, I first started to listen to his music in 2020, especially his second album, and his music helped me come a long way in some form. To this day, Porter’s music still gives me a peace of mind. That’s just the best way how I can explain it. After his hiatus, I’m looking forward to his new era that he’s stepping into. I also very much appreciate the fact that you went out of your way to integrate Porter's music into the video in a manner that feels authentic, fits the narrative of the video and is able to send chills down my spine, because it feels like going through these milestones in my life all over again. I still remember the first times I listened to Sea of Voices, Sad Machine, Goodbye to a World, Language, and even She Heals Everything, which I completely forgot existed until this video. You were able to reignite that spark in me and send me back to those moments. This is something that many modern TH-cam videos lack, and I thank you for structuring it this way, even if the algorithm does not look at it the same way

The point of the video I was most fascinated by is when he talks about the likelihood you would find your souls mate. I’m a long time porter fan and was listening to his interview with zack sang while I was at work. In the interview he talked about his fiancé Rica.
