  • So many people are worried about the quality of their training facility. But not me.
    I'm only worried about the quality of my training partners. Today my long time pad holder and I workout in a tiny space that isn't suited for training. But we make it work and get in some fantastic rounds. This is round 3 of my 5.

    I've seen so many people worried about the quality of their training space and how that might affect their fight performance.
    Don't worry about that. Instead focus on the quality of your training partners. I could prepare for a fight in an empty 10x10 space.

      I'm curious why your padman sometimes catches the left hook with his right hand? Is this simulating a specific counter?

      @@chefxhyrule242 Exact opposite for me, outside I’m decent, but at home I can’t get my footwork right. Mind you, I’m a complete amateur, I train to stay in shape and to better understand the sport I love. Coach always tells me the space doesn’t matter if the technique is right, guess I need to train more 🤷‍♂️

    That sound the pads make when you hit them, beautiful. Truly a result of great technique coupled with immense strength and athleticism. You are a great inspiration to me, not only in terms of physical training but also in mentality. I hope I will one day get to a point when I will be able to tell you that in person. Until then, keep up the great work!

    Gabe you have the best style. Nothing more steezier, aesthetically pleasing than a fighter who keeps his hand up. Gabriel Varga, Nieky Holzken, Joseph Valtellini, Rodtang, Petr Yan, Jose Aldo.

    Just started Kickboxing training after many years of not doing any martial arts. This type of workout requieres a lot of cardio and endurance. How can you get to this level of coordination with the pad holder. Seems like he was giving you some instructions on some kicks or punches but most of looked like free style unplanned but very well executed combos.

      That is Craig McWilliams and he and Gabriel have been training together for years now.
      Craig did fight but it was not his passion and then he amazed all of us how spectacular a pad holder he developed into. I have not seen many better even in boxing. He has worked very hard getting good at it but he certainly has a gift and Gabriel is very fortunate to have Craig on his team. Craig has also been in Gabriel's corner with either Gabriel's brother Aaron as well as with Alin Halmagean from House of Champions in Ontario.
      Gabriel's dad - Keith

      @ivanhannel ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing. Your son is a very good fighter and, more important, a good human being and superb instructor. Craig’s holding is fabulous! I rarely see pad holders this creative and realistic. Wow.

    • @warandpeace73
      @warandpeace73 ปีที่แล้ว

      It took me years after I quit fighting to develop the pad holding skills that put my fighters in the biggest shows around the world. I mean it wasn't the only thing but it is a HUGE thing. If you look at the prime Andy Sower, he fights like he is doing a pad session. Most of the Thais look like they are doing competing pad work. Gabriel does look good but where would he be without pad holders.

    • @kvarga9164
      @kvarga9164 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@warandpeace73 Dan - you are very correct and where would anyone be without all the help they received over the years? There may be the odd freak of nature that walked into a gym - got in the ring and succeeded - MAYBE - I cannot imagine anyone in the last 50 years doing that. Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao etc...... look at the instruction, grooming, assistance they all had to get anywhere. No one - no sport - no profession gets to any level other than being somewhere in the average range without mentoring, guidance, help.
      Gabriel still utilizes me to hold pads for him when needed and I completely recognize I am a 2 or 3 out of a level 10 pad holder when I watch you guys who have it down to an art. I am an excellent teacher / instructor / mentor and fill a needed niche which is - beginners to mid level.
      The top athletes need the top people to help them improve for sure. One great skill I did and still do have is recognizing when someone has exceeded my abilities. I always would look for the next level person to take over. We do not really have to look that far in the world to find someone better than we are.

      @@kvarga9164 I really like Gabriel Varga. He looks very scrawny but he packs a wallop and is probably the most cerebral fighter on youtube and likely most anywhere. I just wanted to point out the importance of pad men in this business who get paid the least of of a general 30 percent cut. 10 percent for the guy who if he is involved sweats and has to think along with his fighter. I think 'management' is a load of BS unless you are fighting in a world of contracts, lawyers and other things. I was padman, email man, and organizer and I took 10 percent. In Hindsight I should have asked for more but there is little respect for coaches anymore. Fighters rarely thank their coaches. We are ore than glorified spit bucket carriers. If I mold a fighters technique and hold according to a game plan, I deserve the 30 percent which I guarantee most pro fighters do not pay. Most don't pay gym dues either. I got sick of all of it and closed my gym and promotion and said, you all see how you do on your own. My 2x UFC fighter who fought Anderson Silva for a title in Cage Rage-He was the one fighter Anderson declined to stand with. I took him from a unprofessional level to competing against one of the greats. and others everyone would know. The bulk of that work molding him was done on the pads. In good gyms there are a multitude of people who make a champion. In myy case I was a one man show. After I cast myself out to see, he lost the next 3 fights because I didn't train him and the rhythm built over the years down to a prefight warm up and psychology wasn't there. Shout out to all the pad men and coaches who deserve their due!!!!!
