    please be careful with pencil in your journals! my mother filled one journal in her life, and it was in pencil. it is now a blank notebook, the pencil disappeared... she’s devastated. :(

    I only just started the habit of journaling in January last year, as a sort of tracker or log of my chronic pains and possible causes. I started with an a6 notebook and the goal of journaling a page a day, and then when it became a habit I moved into an A5 notebook. Still just a page a day, and sometimes more drawing than writing. But now it´s not just a a log, it´s a safe place for my thoughts and worries, a place to put morsels of happy mundane things that help me to keep going. If someone had told me that keeping a journal would benefit my physical, mental and emotional health and help me better understand myself I would have been sceptical. Now I can´t image finishing a day without journaling. Thank you for your videos, I sometimes find that many channels og yt are about certain objects and instruments of writing but in your the act of journaling is always front and centre

      Thank you for sharing! Yes, for me the act of journaling itself is my therapy, whether it's recording the everyday things or actually clearing my head. Art journaling and such is fun, of course, but in the end, it's getting words/expression on paper.

    Wow, you are inspiring! I have started and stopped so many journals over the years due to feeling that I need to complete stories chronologically and journal a certain way ("perfectionism" kills my creative joy). Lately, just grabbing a piece of sketch paper and folding it into a pamphlet that I can put together later keeps me from my OCD nature and I can just journal freely. I like your motivation to use what you have, "let go" and journal however you want, and use your journals for self-discovery. Thanks so much for sharing, and I wish you much peace in your journey against depression and anxiety, as I can relate. Take care!

    • @GirlandQuill
      @GirlandQuill  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for sharing your writing journey! Yes, I felt like I had to journal chronologically for the longest time. But in the end, sometimes I'm just too tired or busy and can't get to it. It was a slow process, but I've learned to just journal when I have a moment and journal what I remember or when I remember it.

    Wow! Awesome to use so many different journals to go through your stash. I enjoy journaling, but I definitely don't write every day. In fact, I have used 1... yes, only 1 traveler's notebook insert (the lined one - not even the one with extra pages) in 2017. I actually started it Oct 2016 and I have one page left! I plan to use that one page to recap 2017 thoughts. And then I'll start a new one. Maybe I will use more than one insert this year?? I do use other notebooks for travel journals/memories and a separate one for gratitudes. Still working on those. You have given me inspiration to use my stash though. I definitely have a large stash of a variety of notebooks. It'd be fun to try to make it an effort to use them. Perhaps try some different type of journaling, maybe a themed journal or something. Thanks for sharing your journals!

    • @GirlandQuill
      @GirlandQuill  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! I am amazed at one insert for 2017! I think that is so cool and minimalist, lol. I sometimes wish I didn't have to write so much, I feel like I would have so much more time for other things, haha. I'm happy to hear I've inspired you to dig into your stash. I found so much satisfaction in knowing the things I bought weren't going to waste!

    Wow! I'm impressed with your journaling discipline and really enjoyed seeing how you used each one a bit differently. I have a stack of unused blank books that I really should either use up or donate. I used to fill up a blank book every year or so. Now that I'm primarily using Travelers Notebooks, I probably fill up 4 or 5 a year with writing and quite a few others for various projects and challenges I've participated in. I tend to journal sporadically. I'll write intensely for days at a time and then not journal for weeks in between. One of my goals for the new year is to have a more regular journaling habit. Thanks for sharing! I'd love to see flip throughs of your junk journals.

  • @theycallmethequeen

    Thanks for sharing! I'd love to understand your process a little more, like: when do you journal? at the end of the day? through out the day? What do you write about? is it just a recap of your day, is it how you are feeling? where do you write- home, at work? Do you have a designated time or place? So many questions lol.

    • @GirlandQuill
      @GirlandQuill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really don't have a process to journaling. I journal when I can grab a moment. It was usually in the evening after work, while watching TV. But now I try to do it during my lunch break or in the morning before work. And I write about everything in my mind at the moment - how I'm feeling, what I did or plan to do, funny conversations maybe. I may add this to a future Q&A, haha. This answer is a long one!

  • @laurafoster327yt

    Wow, nice collection! I only used 2 journals in 2017. I probably have enough blank journals I could have done way more. I keep finding pictures and pieces of paper I want to save, so I've started adding them to my journals.
    I would love to see BSB in Las Vegas (I've never been there before). I saw them when they came to Toronto in December for the iheart radio Jingle Ball. Can't wait for their new album in tour in 2018! :D

    • @GirlandQuill
      @GirlandQuill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BSB is the best! I am the same way, I always collect images and such for my journals, and use them for when I really don't have anything to write.

    I think this is amazing, but as the years add up, what will you do with them all? In ten years you will have your own library, by the time you are a senior you will need a separate house just for the books. Are any of them that you would keep forever, even if you had to edit them down? What is the strategy there? I ask, because I live in a tiny apartment and even though I only produce about 4 a year (the main one, the holiday trip, december daily and perhaps an arty one), I am already asking where will I put them all in a decade or two. Any tips?

    • @GirlandQuill
      @GirlandQuill  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I haven't given it much thought as to what's going to happen to my journals. They may pass onto any children if I have them or they can choose to rip out the photos and/or just keep certain ones. I currently store them in boxes, since I've had to move to much. But I've recently settled into my own house, so space isn't an issue for me personally. I plan to have shelves put in and create a library to have them all displayed. I don't plan to get rid of any, since this is my passion and also my personal history. Digitally scanning them isn't for me, but for some people, they like to edit and scan in pages they love and then throw away the actual journal. If you're not accessing them often, you can store them away and it would be fun to dig up years from now. But overall, I do not let the end amount of journals - whatever number that may be at the end of my life - to overwhelm me or hinder me from enjoying this favorite pastime. I look at it this way, I don't have very many other passions that require so many material items, this is the main one. So I just enjoy it.

    Hi! I really love your videos and I admire your passion in writing and recording your life. I am really hoping your depression is better now, since I struggled with it myself in my teenage years. I wanted to ask you where did your husband get you that Book of the recently deceased journal? I adore chunky journals like that so I was wondering where can I get it? Also, your handwriting is beautiful, love you so so much! ❤️😍

    Nice vid. Love your inserts. What kind of Traveler's Notebook do you have? And that Handbook for the Recently Deceased! Love it! I have 1 completed journal that took me 12 years to finish. Has about 500 pages. It was hard sometimes, but I eventually did it, and I am so proud of myself. I also have depression, and journaling really helps :o)

      BlueNoodle79 My TN is the regular sized by Midori Traveler’s Notebook, so one made in Thailand. That Handbook for the Recently Deceased was such a fun journal to write in! And yes, writing does help because it’s such a safe place to express ourselves and to truly be able to reflect and improve. I hope journaling continues to help with your depression and thanks for sharing.
