Your spoken English is nearly PERFECT and I have an undergraduate degree in Speech communications! So spending that much time with American soldiers, you were able to perfect your spoken English! 👏 👏 👏
I was in South Korea in 1979 to 1980, probably before you were born and of course worked with lots of KATUSA soldiers and most of them were college students and very smart. I to made friends and lost contact with them. All I have is a photo album of my experiences there as it was my first duty station coming out of basic training. And also my first overseas trip away from home. I really appreciate your out look towards your military service time even though it was mandatory for you. I enlisted voluntarily and glad I did because it set me on the right path being the "Black Sheep" in the family. So, the discipline you talked about worked in my favor and I came out knowing I can succeed in life. Your a very good example to your countryman and also I consider you a fellow Veteran. "Keep up the Fire".
Ditto - thank you for sharing your story/journey🇰🇷😃👍🏼 Thank you for serving, even though we served in different countries 🌎all the best to your journey ahead Blessings❤️🇺🇸 One more key from what you mentioned-:). I believe if we can persevere through the tough obstacles that are placed before us whether by choice or other and come to the other side for the better, with a humbled spirit the battle has been won. May there be more like you to share their story❤️ ❤️To God be the glory❤️✝️❤️
When I went to Korea a few years back and I was staying in Yeonnam there was a local park I would go to just to chill/relax!! I would see these service men walking around with their uniforms on!! I thought how honorable for them to be serving in the military for their country!! So I’m happy that you went and enjoyed your time there!! Kudos to you and Best wishes 🙏🏽💯🎆💜
Congratulations on finishing your service man! Thank you for sharing your experience, it’s amazing to hear that you were able to come out with a positive experience when you look back at your service. I feel you when you say you kinda miss it sometimes haha
Congratulations and thank you for your service to your Nation. I'm glad you can see the positive side of it. Military service was never meant to be easy and if it was easy then you're doing something wrong. Use that positive mindset and continue to march forward 💪🙏🏻✌🏻 Me, a 22 year US military veteran (Marines & Army) Thanks again Steve.
Thanks for your reflection. It helps to confirm myself that we all have to go through education and training in order to appreciate better things. Military may not be the only place that one can achieve such training. It is however a good place and opportunity for learning and reflecion. Look at it as a blessing that allows personal growth and development. The world will also benefit from such quality humans. ❤
besides the great insight i really apreciate the scenery in the backround aswell as the quality! A friend of mine turns 18 soon and he feels deeply connected to his mothercountry so he decided to take the korean instead of the gernam citizenship and is of course obligated to serve now. I show him this exact video
I have felling in love with korea. Yes, i do watch the kdramas, but im realistic about life it self. By watching the kdrama i get to see a lot of korea which is very beautiful. Jeju Island is just gorgeous. I would some day like to visit the (big libraries). Thank you 🇺🇸
I had to join American army, i just finished, now I have a VISA in Japan 😎 I didn’t do any service in Camp Humphrey’s, but I have heard a-lot about Korea. Glad you finished healthy ✔️
Thank You for your service and for your positive insight. I loved Seoul in the background. I always feel inspired and have a lot to think about, after watching your videos.
America should have a mandatory military service. Like you, Steve, they'd learn a lot of valuable life lessons and wouldn't grow up so dumb and entitled like now
Hello, nice video! Thanks for sharing. Are you allowed to get visits from family and friends while in military? If you have a job, then enlist, what happens to your job? Is it still your job after you discharge? Also, who does the job while you are in military? Does your job/company pay you while in military? Does military pay you and how often, once a week? Does your family get access to your military pay, if you have kids and they need the money? Are you allowed to leave the military training for vacation/days off? Was there any bullying? Is there privacy in bathing? I often see military doing dance performance outdoors for an audience, usually with a K-pop idol, is this done for a reason/festival/holiday? Sorry to be too personal, I am in USA and would like more information, not much is spoken about this topic. Appreciate your thoughts.
This video must be taken with a mountain of salt. Going for katusa isn't even something you can choose to take. If you get the chance, you're beyond blessed. I live and work among koreans, and not a single one I met who joined the standard military service track has the same experience and viewpoint as you.
And im one of them. Katusa are just randomly picked blessed people. The rest of us are just trapped in prison basically. Katusa get to have freedom that us don't.
If you did not speak English would you have been selectedf for the KATUSA program. Though I was born in Busan but everyday I am grateful that I grew up as an American and proudly served in the US Army.
I am wondering about the background, of this young man. Is he a planr, plaxed to boost the moral of young men, after the recent attacks on JK. Do priviledged sons, get better education, therefore opportunities, easier Service, with less risk of vulnerability. I don't mean to target this young man, however for him to tell rhis story, at this time, is insensitive & clearly not representative of most experiences. I am happy for him, that he took the best from his Service, grew from it, felt positive. I wish the same for all serving Personnel 🤔
mandatory service is a waste of life, particularly absurd given the demographic trends in korea. insane that 100% of korean men don't vote for whomever promises to abolish it
@@lw4423 Yeah, we are just dependent on poor people joining the military because they can't find a job, and they are told they can get a free education in the military. Oh, and btw, we have many, many more people in the US than they do in South Korea.

"...complaining and resisting isn't always the right answer." LOVE this.
Sweet vid, Katusa sounds cool I had no idea about that
Dang good to know that ur still alive. You still in Ukraine?
Beautiful English! Thanks for sharing this experience.
And thank you for your service young man. You accomplished more than you realize
Well spoken and very articulate, excellent post.....God Bless you and the wonderful people of Korea!!!...
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸

I am American and signed up for army and rotc to pay for my college; these perspectives help me see my current and future tasks with more hope.

My soul is crying while listening to this. One day we’ll understand how we’ve f’d up our society. I’m sorry to the energy beings stuck in this realm.

I have always been curious about the mandate of military service in Korea so thank you very much for explaining it.

You grew up and matured ❤
Good vid. Good background.

Have you been in USA or Canada before? Your english without any accent is perfect.

Building good habits. That's the best thing. That's the difference in cultures that have mandatory military service.

I believe you have to speak English fluently
Interesting
Well you’re insights really lives up to the quote “ What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger “ right Steve🤗
You go to a lot of katusa meetings? 😏
Lol ah so youve worked with the Katusas .
I wonder if the Koreans are close to NATO training, drills, strategy, doctrine, etc.
what a waste of time. glad i don’t have to do this 💩. I’m with Sonny Corleone on this one
А там умирают солдаты?

exactly
Yeah waste of life..... So just Americans will fight if South Korea is invaded. Or they could help protect THEIR country
