We call that kinda music "Kalattuut" in Greenland. It means something like "Basic Greenlandic music." Damn good to see and hear our cousins in the west doing the same.
Somehow, Google and Wikipedia didn't mention any of this on my first attempt at research. Most I discovered was a seal burger recipe. But since seal meat is illegal in Florida, I substituted by mixing ground beef and ground lamb, then adding seaweed salad. Added some beet juice and purple food coloring dye to get the meat to look more like seal. Result was way too high in fat for an American with no gallbladder. Next time, I'll just mix seaweed salad with ground bison. Seal burgers are genuinely delicious though. Thyme and blueberries make for a great dish too. I might use feta rather than garlic goat cheese next time though.
It's so great to see that accordion tunes are so popular among the fellow Inuit!! I am just about to make a 2 CD compilation of best Newfoundland tunes, compiled from dozens of CD's i collected over the years! Labrador tunes CD is already done! :)
Went up to Kugarruk when I was just 13 made alot of new friends that I call distant family today watched this alot with them they are such beautiful and compassionate people :)
@tabotier - you're the first to ask about the bones.. after 170,000 views netwide... well, believe it or not those are from the JAW of a Bowhead whale. Not the ribs. :) ... it was our first bowhead hunt in our community in over a hundred years.
I saw this a few years ago and laughed like heck! I watch it again...it's still hilarious! Reminds me of the crappy winters in MN! Winter is a state of mind! LOL
@craiclord - hehe.. I can handle it. Might be a good chance to share the Inuk voice on hunting issues. I'm no stranger to being in the hot seat.. been in "politics"/social policy/activism for 10 years.. on top of my fun, art stuff.. we do have common ground with those guys anyway, believe it or not. Inuit have been against animal cruelty for over 4,000 years, it's our way, part of our core value system.
I created my own TH-cam channel just so I could post a comment here! I totally love your videos, BexxStudio team! I live in Whitehorse but lived in Inuvik for years and travelled into the Kitikmeot region. I danced in a crazy-long reel in Kugluktuk that lasted about an hour! I am cracking up watching all your videos. My 7 year old son and I watch The Bank Job about 4 times a day. I'm so, so enjoying what you do. Can't wait for the next one. Becky you have a great vision and Anguti is awesome!
@angutijohnston Thanks..Thomas... I guess I was your Principal at Ataguttaluk High-school many years ago. This is a fantastic video...my whole family has watched it many times and we all wear gigantic grins as we do so. Keep them coming! We have watched your other videos too. Great presence on the screen! Say hello to your mom and dad... Greg Storey
Ullaakut qanuippit,Bob ajunga Australia nngaaqpunga, thats great- I won't have to wait until Christmas to see the momepok in the hall, every one will now be dancing in the streets. I liked the scene where the huskies were dancing in the background. Quajannamiik-uqausiq atausiq naammajuittuq. Ulluqattiarin
Ualli! Panikuluunngai! Becky? Ree, your brother and I really enjoyed watching your video - very lively, and the dancer really has some great moves! Congratulations - and all our love! Ree, anikuluillu, ataataillu
When I'd view it 1st time about 5 days ago, there were 5,000 viewers... I'd linked it to Facebook right away ... ... and today there is almost 50,000 viewers... AWESOME!!! Its very funny one. Aalut from Nuuk, Kalaallit Nunaat.
@TheOpTicH3cz - the first song is "Intergalactic Planetary" by the Beastie Boys.. the second song is "Sail" but AWOLNATION... the third and most awesome song is by Simeonie Keenainak of Pangnirtung, Nunavut, my home town. whoop whoop!
Hahaha fantastic!! One of the best things i've ever seen, honestly!! This is a great way of showing that tradition must be kept alive!! Thanks for the great video, you made my day!! Btw - could someone give me more info about the tune, who is the performer and where can i get this music? A well known Newfoundland tune called Harold's Jig is quite similar to this one!
This needs to be the official tourism video of Iqaluit! Love it! :]
This is arguably the best thing I have ever watched.
