San Francisco Native Here, the three building you saw were the Salesforce Building on the left, Coit Tower in the center and the Transamerica Pyramid on the right. None of them are churches 😆
well, you guys hardly saw San Francisco! Fisherman's wharf is just a huge tourist area with overpriced restaurants and stores. Just a few blocks away was Chinatown and the cable cars. A nice taxi ride could have taken you to the castro, twin peaks, the mission area, the Haight, Golden Gate park and many more interesting places that ARE San Fran!
As an SF native, I've never understood why tourists don't leave the wharf and actually see the rest of the city. There are just so many better options for food, drinks etc 15-30 minute walk away. Its also much cheaper!!
Thanks for watching Josh!! To answer your question, I think maybe it's easier for tourists (especially cruisers that just have a few hours to work with) to go to an area where they know there will be something to see and do, vs go out exploring and maybe not finding anything.
Speaking to this visit, the time they had allotted was probably pretty limited. I agree, there's so much to see and do in SF! Hopefully the taste they got will inspire them to return and explore. 😊👍
San Francisco is such a great city. Thanks for your sharing your day with us! Pier 39 is very close for cruisers and I would definitely go there on a port day. I was just in SF last month and I really enjoyed restaurant hopping and the mid-week hustle and bustle. There's so much to see and do, and the weather is usually quite amazing. If anyone out there is thinking about visiting SF, absolutely go!
Nicely done video. I’m a Bay Area native and it’s been at least 50 years since I was at Pier 39. Looking at your video makes me want to go there asap. lol. Happy sailing 👏🏻
I appreciate you exploring this corner of The City. Once you get downtown, conditions can change block by block. That said, our most recent homeless count is the lowest in 10 years, and we continue to work to house homeless people. I've lived here (this time) for 23 years and wouldn't live anywhere else. We moved 2,800 from encampments to shelters. I love visiting Chinatown, Land's End, Golden Gate Park (the boats are back!), and more. San Francisco never sits still--even when there aren't any earthquakes!
I live north of San Francisco so only make it into the city (to play vs. driving thru) a few x a year. Pier 39, while touristy, is always fun. Last time I was there, there was an amazing candy store at the end of the pier near the knife store with every imaginable commercial (and other, like taffy) candy you could want. So many great restaurants there. I prefer pier 39 to the other places further down (tho Ghirardelli's chocolate is pretty amazing several miles down the road). San Francisco has it's problems like many cities, but it's still a pretty cool place with lots of fun things to do and great places to eat! Thx for sharing and glad you enjoyed!
Yes Pier 39 is a great area to walk around with many food options and places to shop. I did see a big candy store but didn't go inside. After purchasing some fudge I decided i didn't need anymore sweets...lol
I'm making this comment about 5 minutes in, so forgive me. I am born and raised San Francisco. Graduated Balboa HS in 75. I left "The City" after HS to do the world tour courtesy of Uncle Sam. Twenty years later I retired and settled in Las Vegas. Growing up with higher prices is not the same as moving somewhere with high prices. Of course, in the last 8 years the city I still love has become a natiowide disappointment. That being said, the video you shot from Pier 39, looking at the three building tops, is SO ICONIC, and surprisingly disappointing. L2R Salesforce Tower - 2018 Coit Tower - 1933 Transamerica Pyramid - 1972 I say disappointing because many vloggers often talk about places or things that they are visiting for the first time. That's Great to want to experience those activities. BUT, I would never visit a place, sail a cruise ship❤, or eat different foods, without knowing a little bit about it first. I enjoy looking forward to something just so I don't experience FOMO. Personally, I would hate coming back from something with regret because I DIDN'T KNOW. Of course, this is MY choice. We all have our own preferences. Keep up the good work. I appreciate it.
Many, many years ago (20) when I took my first cruise on Crystal cruises, we took off from that warehouse sale terminal.. Sat on fold out metal chairs waiting for our number to be called to board the ship. Made me a bit nervous as to what we were getting ourselves into, but all concerns appeased once we boarded the ship! New terminal is much nicer!
It's pretty amazing how things have changed in the city, but Pier 35 looks exactly the same as when I got off the Celebrity Infinity in 2001. (Repo from Vancouver to San Diego via Alaska) IT HASN'T CHANGED ONE BIT, haha
For the 40 years I've lived here in the inner S.F. Bay Area, the value of Fisherman's Wharf is that it keeps tourists away from the rest of The City. Nothing in that area is even slightly authentic, and no way should you stay in that area if you have more than 3 hours. Never ever go to Fishermen's Wharf if you come to S.F. It's the lowest level of tourist junk priced at 2x what it should be.
Pier 39 and Fisherman’s wharf are tourist traps and the prices are ridiculous. If you want to stay in that area I suggest the Ferry Building which is more of an authentic SF experience because thousands of commuters pass through there daily. There are wonderful restaurants and shops and chances to just relax and see the Bay or City without so much hustle and bustle. It’s still pricey, but much less cookie cutter touristy. And the food is great. There’s so much more to SF but you can’t do it in just a few hours.
Y'all need to visit Frankenmuth in Michigan and hit up Bronner's. Or you can get the Bronner's catalog delivered but you NEED to visit the store. Frankenmuth is awesome, I think you both would enjoy it.
Thanks for sharing this. We were in San Fran a couple years ago before our cruise and we loved it. Thank God the pier hasn’t changed. I’m glad you enjoyed yourselves and thanks for Sharing ❤️🙏🏼🛳️🦩⚓️
Let me help you out here. There’s no authentic Mexican Food on Pier 39. You need to go to the Mission District. The buildings in front of you do not contain any churches. From left to right you have Salesforce Tower, Coit Tower (where my grandfather lived during the 1906 earthquake and helped save people), the Transamerica Pyramid and the old B of A building where my mom used to work.
I live in SF and it’s unfortunate that visitors don’t venture into other parts of this beautiful and historic city. Sure, the city has problems, but what city in the U.S. doesn’t! SF is gorgeous, accepting and friendly! Come visit us!
I lived and worked in SF for 13 years. I was oblivious to all the popular tourist attractions. There are so many sightseeing options for travelers, I can see why many opt to stay close to the ship and hang out.
I grew up around the bay and so did my kids. Never venture off out of tourists areas unless you’re familiar with the streets or with a guide. I wish I could still see the innocent beauty tourists who don’t live here see. Nice video! Lots of memories.
I live in the SF Bay Area (born and raised) and cruise frequently. I am glad that you enjoyed your time here. Yes, we have problems, some of which are greatly exaggerated, but most of the city is good. Pier 39 is a gem and the particular Bubba Gumps you went to is absolutely the best. We go there frequently. You missed out on the crepes. Next time...save room for desert! LOL! Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed your time here! I enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!
you were a mere 2 hours from me. Princess' port is pier 27. i have taken Amtrak to Emeryville, Amtrak bus to Pier 39 and walked to pier 27 to board my ship a couple of times
Great video. I'm in the SF bay area. Wow, I had no idea Holland America picked up people in SF - I don't see any other HAL departures in SF - I wonder if your ship is an anomaly. I just looked at your itinerary and it looks amazing! Hope you have an amazing time.
This was a unique sailing..56 days starting in Vancouver with 700-800 guests, then after San Fran it went to San Diego, where we got off, but the ship was going to take on more passengers. It was odd when we saw a number of folks getting on the ship in San Fran. Maybe late bookings, maybe missed in Vancouver. Not sure.
I love your videos. Always showing me something that is from start to finish. No same program format every video which leads me to getting happy to tune in. I was very envious when I saw the fudge!
Oh I love SF! I’ve been several times. Visited Alcatraz, Lombardi street, China town, that famous candy store, rode the cable car, did the Golden Gate Bridge, on another visit went to Napa valley, we went to see the red wood trees. Fun times!
Sharon/Jamie, do either of you happen to know? I've always wondered, but assumed that San Francisco can only accommodate the smallest of cruise ships. We love to sail from San Francisco as we avoid airfare, though have done most trips from there multiple times. It's been Princess "grand princess" (we've sailed on) but now "ruby. princess" sailing from SFO. I know there are a few other smaller ships that take off from there as well. Wonder what the largest ship is the docks can accommodate? It would be fun if a bit of a larger ship could take off from there. We'd sail just for the ship if a Royal/Carnival ship ever came in (dont think that's happened?)...
I would suggest skipping Fishermans Wharf. It's a tourist trap. Walk over to North Beach, Chinatown, and Telegraph Hill instead. Not much further away from your ship.
There's a documentary about the Golden Gate Bridge and the suicides. "The Bridge" released in the mid 2000's, I believe. There's only been one survivor, and he tells his story in it. It's a hard watch. I hope you had a great time in San Francisco!
Should'a walked the OTHER WAY and visited the Ferry Building for some REAL food treats and experiences (and a much nicer wharf area along the Embarcadero). Stay away from Pier 39 above all else... (nothing actually historical, it's only been there since 1978).
Sharon & Jaimie.... We love & appreciate ALL of your videos. You feel like family :). From Barbara & Oscar in Glendale AZ.... the born & raised one's from SF.... enjoyed this SF video.
A well done video. I wish I could say I would like to go there however after our last experience from our last cruise out of San Francisco we will avoid it if at all possible unless thing change there.
Hey Jamie, Sharon, thanks for visiting the city. I used to hang out at Pier 39 back in the day before the aquarium was there it was an arcade and before hard rock Café was there I had bumper cars it’s been a little while ago Pier 39 just celebrated his 45th year of operation And the street cars that go along the Embarcadero are cool of course San Francisco has issues like a lot of other major cities and the downtown not is not like it used to be but hey, I think it’s on the comeback and I’m not just saying that because I live about 15 miles to the north east Thanks for the video
I’m surprised Pier 39 celebrated only their 45th anniversary. We visited there on our honeymoon in 1975. And we also ate at Joe DiMaggio’s fish restaurant on the Pier. Is it still there? It was delish!
@@adlerj5432 hi sorry to say Joe DiMaggio‘s restaurant is no longer there. I do believe the building is still there and there were souvenir shops at the bottom level. The top level was a Joe’s crab shack which now is permanently closed.
Born, raised and still living in SF. There’s a better cruise terminal, but my guess is that since Princess has the lease on it, they might be having a ship docked or soon to dock there. Pier 39 also has changed quite a bit, and personally, I like their sea food options. Some native may scoff at me for saying it, but whatever. My favorite is the Franciscan. As for the rumors and the talk, not gonna deny it, just need to be aware of your surroundings, don’t leave valuables visible in your rental car, and try not to act like a, well…a tourist. I’m the same way when I travel to other questionable places around the US and world.
Just found you guys and subscribed. Very entertaining video and love the humor. Tell Sharon I would've gotten the exact same fudge as she did. Yes, would have gotten the large Margarita.
That good looked so yummy! By the way, $15 a half pound of fudge in a store isn't that bad. Fudge has been always been expensive, but best not to eat it more than a sliver at a time. It is extremely concentrated. Anywway great video. Thanks for showing us around. It's been a long time since I've been to the pier in SF, 2010, I think. We had so much fun there and went on a boat ride. That was in July, and it's looks too cold to do it at this time of year. Of course you are on a really big boat! lol
And NOTHING at Pier 39 is in any way 'authentic'. Stay away from it entirely. At least the actual Fisherman's Wharf has history; and Scoma's was a good place to eat (if you can find it!). Musee Mecanique is also a fascinating place to visit at the Wharf. But you miss all of that when you only visit Pier 39.
We’ve been to SF five times and will be back to cruise from there in 2025. Love Trish’s mini donuts. Did you miss the pier 39 seals? Glad we can stay after our cruise for 4 day. Hi from Scotland
The pier in San Fran is always going to have insane prices because it's a huge tourist trap. The $15.99 for a 1/2lb of fudge has nothing to do with the economy and everything to do with it being a captive tourist trap. Heck, places that sell fudge or cheese in Wisconsin Dells in Wisconsin, has always been similarly steep when you could buy it for half that price at Cabela's Outdoor store and top notch cheese for a 1/3rd of the price at any quality grocery store in WI. Tourist traps know people will pay ithe price and they charge crazy prices because they can! 🤷♀️😂
@@SharonatSeaTravel There's nothing wrong with breaking down and buying what you'll enjoy while on vacation. It's not something we do every day, much less eat fudge every day. Sometimes you just have to live a little, enjoy some amazing fudge, pretend it is calorie free and not care if you're paying tourist trap prices! 😜
Hmmm... SF is a bit of a sxxthole right now but that's mostly downtown, I think. It has such a rich history that it' might have been exploring. Golden Gate Park, cable car, curviest street in the US (forget the name) Chinatown to name a few. A bus tour would have been worth it.
We are sailing on HAL Koningsdam in March 2024 for Ca cost trip. We are sad to see our itinerary changed from Monterey to San Fran. Stationed in Bay Area in 70’s and loved it. Not today with state of the city. We are from San Diego and see the crime and homelessness taking over our once beautiful city also. Love HAL..
The city of Carmel (Carmel -By-The-Sea) is pronounced with accent on the 2nd syllable....car-MELL. Not CAR-mull. Carmel Honey Company was founded in Carmel.
We stayed there before jumping on the Carnival Miracle last month. SF is a dirty and disgusting city with a lot of disturbed people roaming the streets. I feel bad for the people because this place used to be a gem. Our highlight was the view from the Bar atop the Marriot Marquis and eating at Fang's. We went to Muir Woods and Napa and that was fantastic.
So they keep all the homeless people out of Fisherman's Wharf? I could not believe the tents, trash, and excrement on the public streets in San Francisco this summer. You made it look really nice...
What a shame you didn’t do even basic research before you visited one on our most beautiful cities. By the way none of those buildings where a church. One was Coit Tower and the other transamerica building. What a disappointment.
Thanks for watching, Gail. We did do our research, and decided to go to one of the most visited attractions in San Francisco, which is Pier 39 in the Fisherman's Wharf area. It also happened to be right next to where our cruise ship docked, and we had a great afternoon.
The BofA building is the tall black building which is different than the pyramid. Two separate buildings. I remember when each was being built. Born and raised in SF.

Tourists don't know the city, and with all the bad publicity, they don't want to venture too far from the touristic areas.

As for the rumors and the talk, not gonna deny it, just need to be aware of your surroundings, don’t leave valuables visible in your rental car, and try not to act like a, well…a tourist. I’m the same way when I travel to other questionable places around the US and world.
I like Scoma's, too!
Just found you guys and subscribed. Very entertaining video and love the humor. Tell Sharon I would've gotten the exact same fudge as she did. Yes, would have gotten the large Margarita.
A Christmas ornament store and mini donuts?!?!?! Count me in!!!
Of course you are on a really big boat! lol
You should have walked up the road 10-15 minutes to North Beach for some authentic Italian food. Much more reasonable than pier 39. Too over priced.
Love your video guys. Hope he bump to each other someday along the voyage. 😅😅😅
The one building is the Coit Tower named for Mrs Hitchcock Coit for the firefighters of San Francisco!
I was on that cruise too 😊. Good times.
Oh noooo! You missed out by not getting Trish’s donuts lol 😩 they are insanely delicious 😋 glad you enjoyed your time here.
You have a whole ship filled with food you have already paid for.
We’ve been to SF five times and will be back to cruise from there in 2025. Love Trish’s mini donuts. Did you miss the pier 39 seals? Glad we can stay after our cruise for 4 day. Hi from Scotland
We saw the seals from our table at lunch!!!
Why nervous??? It's not in the Red Sea!
lol!!!
You guys didn’t see the sea lions!
We did see them from our table in the restaurant!!! Thanks for watching!!!
You have to go to Ghirardelli Chocolates? Mm We went to Wipeout Cafe! It was good.
My wife said that you need blinders for Sharon !
Yes they do....I broke down and paid the price because it looked so good.
Yes!
Hmmm... SF is a bit of a sxxthole right now but that's mostly downtown, I think. It has such a rich history that it' might have been exploring. Golden Gate Park, cable car, curviest street in the US (forget the name) Chinatown to name a few. A bus tour would have been worth it.
Thanks for watching Sonny!!!
Love HAL..
It id NOT San Fran……..it is The City or San Francisco………from a native..
There’s plenty of beauty in the city. Take the hop on hop off bus
Where in NJ is Jaimie from?
Hi Rick!! Central NJ,..Hunterdon County area..went to High School in Flemington.
@@SharonatSeaTravel I was born in Woodbury.
You didn’t go watch the sea lions on the piers next to Pier 39?
We saw them through the window at the restaurant where we had lunch!
I would have gone to see the sea lions!!!!!!
LARRRRRRGGGGGGEEEEEE!!!!
I was afraid the Caramel Honey Store was a strip club! 😅
No LA Charger Christmas ornament ?
Already have a few at home!!lol
BEWARE OF SMASH AND GRAB ! ! ! Good you dont have a car. Pier 39 and the Fisherman’s Wharf area is a prime location for “Smash and Grab”.
And yet after hundreds of trips there, nothing.
Afraid of sfo? Sfo is a beautiful city. 😂😂😂
Sfo is the airport
Bliss.sfo is airport code.
Not the Bud Light ornament.
The city of Carmel (Carmel -By-The-Sea) is pronounced with accent on the 2nd syllable....car-MELL. Not CAR-mull. Carmel Honey Company was founded in Carmel.
Get the large you’re on vacation
Christmas store looks easy to shoplift
We stayed there before jumping on the Carnival Miracle last month. SF is a dirty and disgusting city with a lot of disturbed people roaming the streets. I feel bad for the people because this place used to be a gem. Our highlight was the view from the Bar atop the Marriot Marquis and eating at Fang's. We went to Muir Woods and Napa and that was fantastic.
So they keep all the homeless people out of Fisherman's Wharf? I could not believe the tents, trash, and excrement on the public streets in San Francisco this summer. You made it look really nice...
Its still a shi*^% hole. Its horrible and sad.
Why would you go to that area? Were you really here? I find it hard to believe unless you set out to find the worst areas 🤷♀️
Hope you did not step in any poop
We went poop-free the entire day!!! lol
Americans scared to get off in San Francisco? What does that tell you?
Scared? We don't recall anyone being scared.
That they watch Faux News too much!
What a shame you didn’t do even basic research before you visited one on our most beautiful cities. By the way none of those buildings where a church. One was Coit Tower and the other transamerica building. What a disappointment.
And the BofA building. And the Salesforce building... just sayin'
Thanks for watching, Gail. We did do our research, and decided to go to one of the most visited attractions in San Francisco, which is Pier 39 in the Fisherman's Wharf area. It also happened to be right next to where our cruise ship docked, and we had a great afternoon.
@@barbaraissa9089it was the transamerican pyramid before it was sold to b of a. Just sayin
The BofA building is the tall black building which is different than the pyramid. Two separate buildings. I remember when each was being built. Born and raised in SF.
not a church it is the trans america building. The home of the "THEY" in the Bay area
The Transamerica building has been around a lot longer than your undereducated attempt at bullying.
What out for poop on the street
I just commented... San Fran must ban the homeless from Fisherman's Wharf!
Watch out for people.that can't spell
Nicely done video. I’m a Bay Area native and it’s been at least 50 years since I was at Pier 39. Looking at your video makes me want to go there asap. lol. Happy sailing 👏🏻
