    Didn't Little Britain live do a almost completely identical sketch with David Walliams as a kid's tv presenter.

    • @jayh3359
      @jayh3359 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mary hadfad Yes, Des Kay. Little Britain’s creators and the League of Gentlemen used to be good friends and they used to bounce ideas off of each other, hence why other characters like Marjorie from fat fighters and Pauline from the restart course are so similar.

    • @pov_music
      @pov_music 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      At least LOG's characters were actually clever and well written rather than just based on Daily Mail-esque stereotypes like Little Britain.

    • @anoni9805

    it means literally "All is clear?" so the response is "All is clear". Like "All is understood?" and the response of "All is understood."

    • @klaxoncow
      @klaxoncow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, "alles klar" literally translates to "all is clear".
      The English equivalent would be "okay" or "alright" or "all is good" or "good, good".
      And, like in English, you can use it as a statement or a question: "okay? okay!" / "alright? alright". Or it can just be an interjection to show approval: "Shall we go over here? Good, good", "I think I'll have the fish, okay?".
      It's worth noting that it's a call-and-response here because this is Herr Lipp's catchphrase and everyone's joining in. But, in reality, its usage would be more like what's seen on the TV show, where it's really an affectation. A figure of speech.
      Like that character in South Park who always adds "m'kay" to the end of every sentence. It doesn't actually mean anything, but is really a nervous tick.
      You're not really expected to reply to "alles klar" every time you hear it. But this is a comedy show and the character has just dropped his catchphrase, so it goes all Bruce Forsyth - "nice to see you... to see you nice!".
      Well, it's like in English, when you might bump into someone in the street and exchange "alright?" / "alright?". Neither of you is genuinely asking the other if they're alright. It's just a greeting. An ice-breaker to kick off conversation.
      Whilst you can explicitly be asking someone if they're okay - and you genuinely expect an answer - most uses of "okay" (and similarly "alles klar") are semantically empty. It's just a general positive thing to say. A different way to say "yes".
