    Liquid soap watery 🤷🏻‍♀️
    So I make liquid soap all the time and my standard rule is, soap paste weight must be diluted with hot water, double the weight of the soap paste and if needed I’ll add a bit more water in small quantities if it needs a little more diluting.
    Now a few days ago I made liquid shampoo, and I used the same rules, unfortunately my soap got super watery so I had to thicken it with salt. This of course didn’t go so well and my soap got too thick even though for a moment it didn’t seem like it so I added the soap to the bottles, overnight it turned into a big thick substance that wouldn’t move. So I took it all out, diluted it again and thought it was of a good consistency, added it to the bottles again and yep, next day it was super thick again… so I decided to make a whole new batch yesterday and instead of doubling the paste weight in water, I used the same weight of water as the soap paste. The soap paste was 2200 grams so I weighed the water to the same weight, heated it and let it dilute till the next day which is now.
    I just checked my soap and it’s again as watery as it was when I used double the amount of water!! I thought I’d be on the safe side when adding much less water so I could dilute it slowly and get it that honey like consistency. I just don’t understand why it’s going wrong 😑 does anyone know what could cause this?
    My recipe:
    Almond oil 10%
    Babassu oil 15%
    Castor oil 12,5%
    Coconut oil 10%
    Jojoba oil 10%
    Lard 20%
    Tallow 22,5%
    Replaced the water lye mixture with ACV and added silk to the hot lye mix.
    Added glycerin to the soap paste and water mix. Which I always do with my liquid soaps.
    Does anyone know why my liquid soap is so watery? Because I normally with my other soaps always double the soap paste weight in water…. As I’ve seen and read from other soap makers as well…

    • @SashaKuznetsova
      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's just part of liquid soap making : you make the paste first (mine turned into hard thick paste) and then you add water to that paste to make it into liquid soap. I added 1500g of water which is 2:1 ratio with 2 parts of water and 1 part of soap. Some use 1:1 ratio if they want their soap to be thicker. Hope this answers your question 😊.

    • @SashaKuznetsova
      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! This soap is basically an all purpose castile soap. You can use it to wash hands, body, do dishes, etc. I wouldn't recommend it for hair though since it needs to be a much lower Ph level. As to using glycerin - I was never successful at mixing it with Lye so far. You will need to warm the glycerin to a certain temperature first (if I recall correctly 200F) and then mix your Lye into that. Unfortunately when I tried doing just that my Lye wouldn't properly disolve. But some people swear by it. If you try it let me know if it worked for you.😊

    • @SashaKuznetsova
      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you tried this recipe and liked it!😃 As long as you cooked it and added the water after the taffy stage, you should have liquid soap that can be stored or you can add essential oils right away. If you stored it, you can add essential oils whenever you are ready to use it either in a soap dispenser or a bottle - this way the fragrance will stay fresh longer. You can use this soap as a body wash, hand soap, or make it into foaming hand soap like in one my videos here:

      Hi Rachel. Yes you can use the soap right away. Remember to test it for Ph levels first to make sure it's safe and not lye heavy. I like to let it sit for a few weeks though because it may feel a little harsh when it's just out of the crock pot. After sitting for a couple of weeks some water evaporates and the soap becomes gentler. Hope this helps.😊

      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. To be honest with you I've never added anything but essential oils to it. But you got me so curios that I just added some bentonite clay to my finished soap. It mixed in very well at first but a few minutes later it sort of separated and settled down on the bottom of the bowl. I'll give it a couple of days to see if it blends in any better and get back to you on that. As to herbs - yes I would add them at the very end.

    • @SashaKuznetsova
      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The clay is still settling on the bottom of the jar 3 days later so I guess it's probably not a good idea to add it after the soap is done unless you don't mind shaking it well right before you use the soap. I feel like the same thing will happen if you add clay at trace - it will separate later on when you're gonna add water to dilute your soap, but I may be wrong...Sorry I couldn't be much of help here.

      I usually measure mine, but if you are following my recipe and using 3 quarts crock pot just fill it up all the way to the top with water.

    • @SashaKuznetsova

      There is no need to neutralize this soap.

      I've never used 90%KOH so I don't know much about it. Sorry I couldn't be much of a help here.

    • @SashaKuznetsova
      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm so sorry hear that. 😂Are you mixing it in a warmed up crock pot? Other then increasing the heat and mixing it with a stick blender on high setting I can't think of anything else you could do at this point. 🤔You may wanna check the amounts of ingridients to see if you may have overlooked something.

    Can it be done with just one type of oil?

    • @SashaKuznetsova
      @SashaKuznetsova  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Yes you can use only one oil. I chose my oils in these exact proportions for a reason though: coconut oil is cleansing and makes a lot of bubbles, olive oil is moisturizing and castor oil creates creamy lather. So for example if you only use olive oil your soap won't bubble much, if you only use coconut oil your soap will feel dry on your skin and if you only use castor oil your soap will be creamy, but not bubbly. But you can definitely experiment with whatever oil you have. Hope it helps😊

      To be honest with you I've never even looked into using preservatives in my soaps, I didn't need to - this soap stays good until I use it up which sometimes can take 6-8 months. Sorry I couldn't be much of help here.
