Björneborgarnas marsch has always been one of my favourites. Now we must once again unite as brother people just like Sven Dufva and Mannerhielm. The "bear" must be defeated and Karelia brought home!
I meaned "unit of the Swedish army" Well this is anyway the march of Pori Regiment (Finland) and the most loved finnish military march. It is the honorary march of the Finnish Defence Forces and is played (rarely sung) for the Commander-in-Chief / the President of Finland. Traditionally, Porilaisten marssi is played in radio or television every time a Finnish athlete wins a gold medal in Olympic games etc. It is also played on Christmas Eve during the Declaration of Christmas Peace ceremony.
Tainnut jäädä itseltäsi lukematta - vielä 2. maailmansodan aikana saksalaisissa kirkoissa saatettiin pyytää suojelusta suomalaisilta. Eli juuri ruotsalaisten suomalaisjoukoilta.
"Sons of a courageous nation, we in Poland, Lütz, Leipzig and in the land of Narva bled our blood, but Finland still stands, still can the oppressor put our country under a yoke. Away, away, the deeds of peace fade away, soon our swords strike fire and the bullets whiz by. Everyone, join as one, the spirits of our past heroes greet us!" "Beautifully the memory of our heroes shines, us too will only pale once we are gone, so forward, with bravery, your sons shall never give away their honour." 2x "Gloriously the war flag waves, from victory to victory you bring us forward. Forward, now everyone, the battle begins, the land of Finland shall still witness heroes being born!" 2x
hi my name is jim and i have just retired from working with glasgow (scotland) museums. a couple of years ago we had a lovely finnish girl called emmi working with us. then it happenned! we had snow, 2inches and we were all sent home from work, everything stopped, i can hear her lovely laughter now. "we have ten feet of snow in Finland and everything keeps going". OOPS! Ha!Ha!
once upon a time a Finn Air liner was approaching the airport in Rome. they had just had one inch of snow and were closing down, told the finn to find another airport. "Satana perkele" was the pilots answer. "Gear down and we land now!! And they did without a hitch. If you are ever in a bind on the autobahn and it is snowing, get behind a finnish long-hauling truck. they just keep going. I was once in finland north of rovaniemi riding a bus further north on icy roads. I saw the speed on the odometer 90 km pr hour. We got there!
same thing happnened in Rome airport (Italy) a while back. It started to snow (ever so lightly) and the aitport staff was starting to close. Finnair was approaching to land. Gear out and the whole thing. They were told to abort and try to land somewhere else. "Hell no, we are landing now" and they did without incident! SISU
Kauan sitten katselimme talviolympialaisia, Hakulinen sai kultamitalin, Pekka Tiilikainen sanoi: Suomi, Porilaisten marssi, kyyneleet jopa isani silmissa. Lammin tervehdys kotimaahan USA'sta.

According to legend, those cannons are part of the march because they mimic the cannons from the First Battle of Narva (1700). Swedish and Finnish troops defeated a Russian force three times their size and this march was composed to commemorate that battle. It appears whoever composed this did the cannon thing before Tchaikovsky (the music predates the 1812 Overture by at least 30 years, since lyrics to it were written in 1858; Tchaikovsky's overture is from 1880).
BerndAdrian91 It is old "Swedish war march" deticated to Finland area army unit. Finland area was since the viking era ended and the Kingdom of Sweden borned East Sweden over 600 years, nearly half of main kingdom, not a province like many other areas connected to Swedish Empire (Norway, Batic coutries, North Germany etc). The finnish cavalry Haccapelites were once the most feared unit of the famous Swedish (occupied Novgorod 6 years, Moscow 1 year and marched criss cross Poland and Germany.)
There is a Polish Army band (those wearing amaranth red trousers and the commander in the 16th century fur coat standing next to the German band,) but no Polish flag can be seen there. Why?
Of course the tempo is slow, there are half a dozen military bands performing simultaneously and they are spread around the field. It has to be slower so they can all hear and keep up with each other. Try a faster tempo with that many musicians and it would be chaos.
The civilian "trade flag" is the most common, but the actual "state flag" used by officials has the lion in the middle of the cross. Then the Defence Force uses the swallow-tailed version. And finally, the President's flag is swallow-tailed, with a Freedom Cross medal in the canton. (Yacht clubs have also special flags they can use in place of the trade flag - in some cases, those are older than the official Blue Cross.)

People should know that the Bjorneborgarnas marsch is Finnish so they should call this Porilaisten marssi
Originally the name was Swedish since Finland was a peasant language so the author used Swedish.
