I love how you’re not afraid of talking about your emotions. A lot of men think it’s wrong to but in fact that’s the opposite. I feel like that just shows that you’re human and a good person. Love this song btw always makes me cry but I’m happy she now has her son and that she’s happier.

Yeah this is from her second mixtape Sucka Free (2008). Her mom is still alive actually, thankfully. Her dad did pass recently as victim of a hit and run, though unfortunately. She developed a better relationship with him in her adult age. I think the documentaries My Time Now and My Time Again would be great for you to see the personal side of her. I used to have nightmares as well by my dad hurting my mom. It's the childhood trauma he put us through. And I had dreams of hurting my dad. I definitely understand Nicki so much. We didn't know what was going on because we were so young... but you understand when your mom is feeling pain. I used to locked myself in my room to get away from my parents arguing. The "pillow/blanket over your head" line brings back so many memories.
This is the song that lead my to believe I’d be a fan for life! 😢 I could related so much! To her parents having to leave her behind man! She’s too real 👸🏽 but this is how I knew Nicki was real. You can hear it in the music ❤️🔥
Nicki is a masterful talented writer. She will evoke emotion.... I fell in love with her pen and mind 14 years ago and were about the same age. Im enjoying watching you discover an artist that some people at times blow off as if she not THE BEST........

The crazy part of the ending of the verse she said if its good plan maybe we can meet again and fast forward to 2020 nicki gives birth to healthy baby boy that we know as papa bear 😩❤️.

Just to give more info, her mom said she had a dream (or feeling?) that their dad was going to do something crazy like that so their mom sent them to someone else’s house that night. That’s a great power some people have.

The lyrics are wrong: I believe in that third verse she says “and i don’t pay myself in the back for sending you back. Cuz god knows I was better than that.” When I first heard it, it sounded as if she was feeling guilt over the situation, hence “and I don’t pat myself on the back for sending you back GOD KNOWS I was better than that.”
Later on she says “how tf would they know what I was ready to do?…” which can mean she thought about keeping it at a young age but was ultimately pressured to abort. 😢
And it was part of Gods plan for them to meet again as she said because her first born child and only child is a boy 🙏🏽

Always said this was my personal favorite Nicki song. Not cuz it’s bar heavy (which I love the bar heavy ones) but because This was the first time I felt her soul.
And no. Her mom isn’t dead. She was saying she has nightmares that it went the worst way imaginable.
The first verse was about family. The second verse was about her childhood ex, Aaron, that got her pregnant. The third verse was about that pregnancy that she terminated at 16.
I love how compassionate u are. Literally. So much respect. So many people automatically wrote her off when they knew she had an abortion. Ur amazing

This was in one of the versions of her first mixtape (2007). I think she might have taken it of the tape at some point because some downloads of the mixtape don’t include this song. Or maybe it was a loose track that slipped out.
