Hello Julie! To answer your question, I bought that grinding /sanding stone and have used it for ceramics and porcelain. Keeping the dust to a minimum with the stone in water. Thanks for the tips and tricks! I even bought the compound nippers and boy does that help a lot!
Hi Tonya! Do you also have an electric grinder? Or do you keep with the sanding stone only? Oh the compound tile nippers are SOOO dang good! Keep creating my friend and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Hi Julie! No electric grinder for me. I did buy a Dremel rotary tool for buffing, but haven't used it yet. I have used a deli slicer for 16 years; have all my digits, but am a bit afraid of power tools. Once it warms up, I will buff my gazing ball outside with the mask and who cares what kind of mess I make! The garden hose will take care of that! I can tell that you are at ease with the power tools. Baby steps! Dremel today, drill tomorrow! Still want to drill circles, that looks too fun! Ha!
Hi Sunday Sunshine! I listed the grinding stone below the video in the description. It's such a valuable tool.....especially for how inexpensive it is. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌
Now I want a drill press! How do you keep the ceramic under water with a drill press? Thank you so much for your videos! I am a complete newbie at this and you are the best teacher! ❤️
Hi Darla Dr! Thanks for your kind words, and welcome to the world of mosaic! Awww, drill presses are so much fun! I love mine! This video will show you how I keep the ceramic under water: th-cam.com/video/g-bHlTWG_0U/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi! I'm a newbie to mosaics and am learning so much from you. Thanks! Regarding the stone, do you need to sand every cut tile, stained glass and broken pottery?
Hi Dina! Welcome to the world of mosaic. We've been waiting for you!😂 It's great to hear you're getting value from my videos. Regarding smoothing your tesserae....you do not have to sand down every piece you cut, unless you want to, of course. I sand down sharp points, jagged edges, and even sometimes when I just need the tessera to be ever-so-slightly smaller in order to fit into a space. This video might help you too: th-cam.com/video/IrKEgwpGr14/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Is the grinding stone the same as a knife whet stone? I did order some, but I have my dad's old knife stone he used in his restaurant. That would be cool if I could utilize this too!
Hi Maria! YAY!!! Have you used it yet? Let me know what you think? It's such a convenient, handy tool to have in your mosaic toolbox. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Elaine! Awww, thanks so much! This is an invaluable, inexpensive *tool* to keep in your mosaic toolbox. I love it! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
I bought a Dremel tool thinking it would work for the sharp edges but it doesn't. This was a few years back. Interested to know if you have used one that works well
Hi Lynda! I often use a Dremel on sharp edges - especially ceramic and porcelain - and it works great. Have you tried all of the different grinding nibs? You could also try a file although I like to use that method when the tesserae aren’t attached to the substrate. An electric glass grinder also works well. Keep creating and I’m thankful you’re here!🔥
Hi Julie! I found these wonderful stones at a local Dollar Store. I scooped up a few and I use them on all types of tesserae. I also get a free manicure! What more can I ask for? Thanks for the video, see you next week! ❤
Oh Judith, you crack me up every week! And you aren't kidding about the free manicure.😂 Wow, the dollar store, eh? Good find! Keep create my friend and as always, I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi, is the sanding stone you list the same as what you’re using in the video? They just looked different (in color) but I take it that the grit is what we’re actually looking for? Thanks, I’m a newbie so just making extra sure I understand it right. Thank you in advance.
Hi Dana! Yes, it seems they changed the colors of the sanding stone, but yes, you're correct, what really matters are the grits. Have fun with it. I love mine! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
What about the bottom end of a piece of porcelain or China where the ridge on the bottom of the plate rests? Can that we sanded down so sit sets flat on the design?
Hi Tammy! You can use a grinding stone but it'll take a while....like, a while-a while.🙈 So you'll want to use something more robust. A hand electric grinder with a coarse disc might be more of what you're looking for. Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
I found a bag of glass tiles at either hobby lobby or Michaels and the glass is rectangles, actually kind of thick almost like a quarter of an inch, and I'm wondering how would you go about cutting material that thick? Any suggestions would be great!
Hi Maria! I did a few videos here on the channel all about how to cut glass tiles like what you're talking about, plus the tool needed. You can watch them here: th-cam.com/video/7HBruK2E8mo/w-d-xo.html; th-cam.com/video/4ov7fKOP-wo/w-d-xo.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Patty! Wow, GREAT question! You're forcing me to make a decision.😮 I'd definitely say an electric grinder because it's quicker overall, and I can grind in so many more ways/scenarios/inside curves. But the sanding stone is inexpensive and helps out in a pinch. They're both equally awesome! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!
Check out this video (th-cam.com/video/IrKEgwpGr14/w-d-xo.html) which shows you 4 methods to get rid of sharp edges/points which are already adhered to your substrate. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Hi Liz! Yes, the sanding stone I'm using in the video is a type of whetstone. It's perfect for mosaic tesserae, however I wouldn't sharpen my good knives with it. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🔥
@@JulieWeilbacher Woohoo! I'm glad I asked and thank you for answering so quickly. I wasn't sure if I needed to go out and buy yet another tool for my new mosaic arsenal, haha.
