I just finished this book a few minutes ago and OMG. It's definitely amazing and I loved it so much. I love the way her writing style is, how she describe things with colours and she describes the air in a lot of scenes too. It makes it so easy to not only picture it but feel what's going on too. I was so eager to find out what happens at the end I could barely put it down. At the end there was a pretty big plot twist that I never saw coming. When it ended it kind of felt like Donatella was going to be the more focused character in the next book. Also, I love Julian.
I finished Caraval last week and I agree with most of the parts you mentioned Jesse. I love the fact there was romance but that didn't steer Scarlett away from finding her sister. The only issue is most of the book the relationship really felt one-sided with Scarlett always making sure Tella was fine and Tella shoving her aside. The end we see there is more, which means me interested in what will happen in the second book
her writing isn't accurate. Her peronality changes every chapter from reckless to badass, then niiave to scandalous, then sincere to mysterious, and smart to weak. kinda sucks
Nvm I take it all back she's my favourite character in the whole series now that Ive read it all. Stephanie garber did a really good job showing her confusion, determination, hope and love. even when the world seemed to end she never gave up or took a break, unlike many long 600-900 paged YA novels I've read that just make the main character become oblivious and slip up, then tries to put their life back together, or just change them in the most confusing ways. Tella stayed true to her heart, ambitions and passions, and she's a really really strong and quick thinking female lead. There are rarely doubts in her mind when she commits to something. I think it's beautiful.
I loved this video! At the beginning the girls aren't actually trying to get the other in trouble because they knew that if they confess their father will hurt the other sister as punishment which is why they try to push the blame on each other so that they can take the punishment and not the other! It was written in such a way that i thought they were just trying to get each other in trouble but then it was explained :)!
Okay my feelings were thrown around so much. I loved the characters the story, everything about this book. When I thought left they came back, and then left again. It hurt my heart, it was literally broken, then taped together again, then broken again, then stitched back together. I loved it the entire time. 💕
THE ENDING. I had like, so many questions and I looked the 2nd book up because I wasn't satisfied. I wanted more. Then I read, the release of book 2 is 2018. What do you mean 2018? *sobs*
SAME, I really wanna know more about Legend!! I know we got his back story but we still didn't really get to meet him, so I'm really looking forward to that. I went into the book with all these romantic pairings and predictions in my head and they were completely off lol :'D I hope the cover of the second book is as gorgeous as the first
Yeahhh, but it was still a very good ending. Enough closure to satisfy, but enough mystery to keep you intrigued. I loved that it wasn't just an outright cliffhanger like most books these days
i had finished reading this twice.. (OMO) thats how i love this.book for reading it twice after i finish it last week.. i love Scarlett and Julian and their chemistry.. all in all i love everything about Caraval and I cant wait.for the book 2.. goshh!!
I freaking loved this book. I think the bond between Scar and Tella was touching, and that the interactions she had with the players were definitely leaving me feeling somewhat out of the loop for a little while, but it did not take long for that to change. While I did go into this for the Night Circus feel, I did not leave with it, and for that I am happy. I had to pick this up, because so many of you guys have recommended this book. I actually want the UK cover of the book, which I might go order off Book Depository in May.
Your not the only one. I thought it was carnival when I first got the book but until I watch this Video it all came clear to me. The book Was Caraval not Carnival, Dangit I am so weird.xD
I just finished it and ohhhh myyyyy goooosshhhhhhh it was great! I have never read a book that I could literally visualize everything so clearly. I totally recommend this book and it is now at the very top of my favorites list.
bruh this book had me in unease mostly cause i have a gift for reading characters for who they really are and i just could not place Julian ....through the whole book
I was lucky enough to have won an arc of this book and it was SO amazing!!! Really loved the the writing and atmosphere ahhh super exited about book 2 because THAT EPILOGUE
I was thinking it sounded like the night circus actually, but that just made me want to read it even more! I absolutely LOVED the night circus so I'm excited to read more books similar to it. I NEED this book!
I’m so glad I read this book after I saw you mention it so many times. It really was amazing and so magical. The twists had me gasping a lot which scared my cat. Only downside to be honest was the constantly scared and confused cat.
I loved this book!!! Especially the way she used colors to depict imagery and emotions. Beautiful written! It's going to be a struggle to wait for book two...Like, that epilogue though!! 😅😍
It was so amazingly enchanting and had a great mixture of magic, mystery and adventure. The book makes you not only question the characters but yourself as well. it was very dreamlike and was better than the Night circus in my opinion. It also helps you to think about family and the people you car about. Loads of twists and turns with a totally awesome plot. If you read one book this year make it be this one! Absolutely stunning cover well done Stephanie garber for bringing this whimsical world that we can love and hate you did it!
I have to admit I'm in the minority and didn't really like this book. LOVE the cover and liked the world but...eh. Wasn't my favorite. Liked hearing your thoughts on this though! And I agree - I didn't see the Night Circus in it at all.
Caraval was like one of my favourite reads of 2017 I feel like you need to be a certain type of reader though to actually enjoy it. My cousin was confused the first couple of chapters and almost tempted to put it down because that’s the type of reader she is but I convinced her that it was too good for her to put down and we both loved it. Keep in mind that she did watch me react to the end of the book witch my reaction was priceless so she easier to convince.
Wait it's going to be a series!!!! *makes weird fangirling noises* YAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!! Also I found that 20th Century Fox has the movie rights for Caraval which I'm so pumped for!!!
Omg I just finished this. I loved it! It was magical and slightly dark wich I really liked. I didn't relelize there was going to be more then one book though. The wait is going to be terrible.
I just finished reading Caraval last night and I LOVED it!! I haven't read a book with that many pages that fast in a while! So good! It's definitely nothing like The Night Circus, which I started to read a year or two ago and stopped about a third of the way through (book A.D.D. or a slump not sure which) but it definitely has a different vibe then Caraval.
I loved Caraval! I didn't want to put it down. If there is going to be a second book and Caraval is a series, I will definitely pick up the next book. Now, I've never read The Night Circus, but I had put it in my Amazon shopping cart so that I might get to reading that one. Anyway, Caraval took "running away with the circus" and turned it on it's head.
I want to read this so much but I've only just finished the night circus. I need a break between to stop myself from comparing the two as much while reading.
okay, I know you probably won't read this but, this book destroyed me! There were so many twists and turns and I absolutely loved this book and I'm in denial of then end. but my goodness, im ruined.
Liked the idea and setting, BUT...I hated Scarlet, hated Julian, and HATED their romance... and Im so sad, I really wanted to like Caraval, but clearly it was not a book for me.
They were throwing each other under the bus at the beginning because their father punished the sister who didn’t do something bad. Because he knew it would hurt more to see their sister punished then them being punished themselves - If that makes sense?
I haven't read this book yet but from the reviews and synopses, it doesn't really sound like the Night Circus. Other than it takes place in a circus. The Crowns Game I'm currently reading and that is giving me major Night Circus vibes! Still unique but boy-girl magical competitors... sounds closer to NC than a show where someone gets kidnapped/disappears. Either way, can't wait to read it!
I read it and rated it 2.25 out of 5 stars. I was incredibly offended by the way Stephany Garber glossed over the effects years of living in an abusive situation have. (And I should know, I have lived in domestic violence and abuse for sixteen years and in my case it was also my father). I anyone wants to know more of my opinions on this book, I will be posting a review in the upcoming days.
Maybe, but I have known several other people who have gone through similar situations and none of them came out without any open wounds. For non of them it was just butterflies and roses when the abuse ended. Several of them became depressed and suicidal and several needed EMDR-therapy to properly function again. The point I want to make is: usually all the hurt comes out when it is save again and someone can be vulnarable. When the situation is ongoing, you need to be strong to pull through. BTW: everybody processes stuff different, this doesn't mean I cannot be offended by the way Stephany Garber glosses over (at least it felt like that for me, and I am not the only one) the effects abusive situations have on people.
I totally agree with you, in this book are absolutely no 'consequences' pictured (although that doesn't mean that there aren't any or that they won't be any in the sequel). And you can be offended by whatever you want! I wanted to say that it didn't bother me personally (based on my own experiences), because that`s just how these characters live with it and because the book is not about abuse, but about this fantasy theme. It was just a way to make the father the antagonist.
Exactly: a plot devise. It was an important point in the plot, though. Otherwise they would not have had a reason for wanting to leave. But I think I have to let it rest now. Otherwise my entire day will be ruined by myself.... We can discuss it later, if you would want to ;)
Alright, that was not my intention :D I don't have the need to dive deeper into it, but thanks for the offer. I just wanted to point it out, because I personally hate to give low ratings for books. I hope you still have a nice day :)
Omg I read this book it was sooooo amazing!!!! I started the day I got it and could not put it down. I stayed up till like midnight reading it but it only took me like two days so... anyway I love it!!!
I read the first few chapters in a library about 3 months ago, and today wanted to continue reading it so i borrowed the book. Or so i thought. For some reason i thought the title was the night circus and when i started reading i couldn't find the chapters i had already read and went looking for the video with the book until i found this one. So i guess i am just going to read it after i read the night circus.
This actually sitting in my amazon cart right now, waiting on me to click buy, which I will do as soon as I get paid. I'm so glad Jesse enjoyed it, makes me want to pick it up even more. Also, anyone else pronouncing it "kara-vle" cuz now I feel dumb. It just seems an easier way of saying it. Also, watching this on the laptop, cuz I broke the screen of my phone. :(
I didn’t feel like the game was playing with scarlet. I felt like the game was playing with me😂
I just finished this book a few minutes ago and OMG. It's definitely amazing and I loved it so much. Same I read 100 pages in an hour
I had the same thoughts about Caraval too! Her writing style is amazing and I am in love with the color descriptions as well.
They were throwing each other under the bus so that they would be the one punished for their own mistakes.
Billie Jenna I was going to mention that, then I saw you did, thank you! I think it's important potential readers know that 💙
Billie Jenna yup I was going to mention this as well!
Billie Jenna Was just going to comment that :)
I loved how in the beginning Tella seemed unreliable and almost selfish but her true nature was revealed as the book progressed.
you spoilered it..
I finished Caraval last week and I agree with most of the parts you mentioned Jesse. I love the fact there was romance but that didn't steer Scarlett away from finding her sister. not gonna lie...kind of hating on donatella right now. she's sneaky as hell...i'm questioning HER sanity right now haha
Sam's Bookish Thrills i thought so too... but after the 2nd and 3rd book ... shes so amazing and badass

Literally just finished this book today and it broke my brain holy crap it's amazing, totally 100% recommend
What I really liked as well is you can either read it as a stand alone or continue with the series, but by the end of it YOU WANT MORE
I WANT TO READ THIS BOOK SO BADDDLLYYYY
Syd Ziemniak you won't regret it, for sure

I regret it

this book gave me chills. it is my favorite book, I just have no words.
I have about 80 pages left and I’m so excited to finish it!
Not gonna lie I felt kind of betrayed at the end because my heart was on Julian
Drop everything Jesse has uploaded!
just don't drop a book ;)
