I remember seeing big John walking up High Street in Glasgow at 7.30 in the morning,he had just left the Gallowgate. I shouted on him and he gave me a high 5 from the street as i was building Student Flats just outside the train Station...Halcyon days
Martin O'Neil knew that you play your best players and its that that shapes your tactics . My only criticism of Rodgers is that tactics come first with him so he rarely plays Idah and Kyogo together . Kyogo thrives when he's allowed to roam the pitch and scores from crosses into the box . Idah is a big strong centre forward who knows where the goalposts are. Play them both and we have a goal scoring machine alongside Kuhn and Maeda on the wings .
Never been happier to be proved wrong by a Celtic player. At first I was very much in the "why do we need him when we have Larsson and Sutton?!" camp, plus the snobbish "he's not a proper Celtic type player!" attitude, and the fact he wanted to go to Rangers a year earlier. Plus when we signed him his career already seemed to be on the down: he was clearly overweight, failed countless medicals at other clubs, stories of his regular late night booze-ups and kebabs. With the team MON was building, he just didn't seem worth the trouble, quite frankly. And then when he did sign, of course there was him absolutely bursting that Killie player within seconds of him coming on for his debut (from around 4.10 th-cam.com/video/K6Bk2JZ8628/w-d-xo.html here) and I thought "what have we got ourselves in for here....." plus, it's a huge risk if he breaks up the Larsson/Sutton partnership..... It took me a while, and as time went on I started to accept him more, but it wasn't really until THAT goal at Anfield that completely changed my opinion. Nobody gave us a chance going to Anfield that night, and we really needed that goal at that time, and it was completely out of nowhere - one of the least Hartsonesque goals you will ever see - you could even see the shock on his face! One of my all-time favourite Celtic goals (Larsson's chip v Rangers will always be number 1). And then you add all the goals he scored against Rangers too. And of course the fact he still truly loves the club: John, the feeling is more than mutual, Celtic truly loves you 🍀💚
@@dougmasters4579 True, you're right, but with Hartson's injury/fitness record at that time, and where his career appeared to be going, it was still a big risk signing him. Of course it all worked out well in the end!
@@theflyintheointment Ironically I can remember him staying injury free at celtic except when we needed him the most in Seville when Sutton was half fit and played shite.
Can you imagine that happened now kick to the face they would still be rolling about at Christmas. 3 games and a fine seem a bit light lol big man is a legend 🍀
I've a cracking story about wee John and what he had to do to pay off a gambling debt to well known Glasgow face that's definitely not in his book the lad that told me swears it's ture and not one for bullshit but maybe one day someone else will tell the tale

Big John, legend, 👏👏💪🇮🇪🇮🇪
Signing Hartson was the right thing to do, as Sutton had missed a chunk of the previous treble season through injury. We needed a third striker.

Great player for Arsenal
Gave vinny jones a good hiding on the cobbles 😮
One of the laziest players ever to play for celtic. But I wish we had some one like him now
