Here are all the patch notes since the making of this guide: 7.1 Patch Notes: Pictomancers now enter or respawn in duties with their motifs already painted.
Picto and Black mage mains are co-existing in peace I hope. Picto’s sequences are still taking me some getting used to in terms of understanding when to apply muses and how it all blends together in a beautiful piece, so I appreciate you making videos like this Cae. Really helps iron out what you should be doing and how all the actions are intended to be done in a proper rotation.
One note on Holy, it can be used as an alignment tool pre-burst to get the ideal Stone -> Thunder spells during burst; however, if you want to hold a Comet, too, that does require this to be done many gcds ahead of time 😅 i.e. Fire -> Holy as needed -> Stone -> Thunder -> Blizzard -> Fire [Starry Muse] -> Comet [Subtractive Palette] -> Stone -> Thunder -> Comet -> rest of burst
Yeah I was thinking about something like this, and concluded ultimately that it seemed like too heavy of an optimization, and I wasn't 100% sure if the holy casts would drag down enough that the potential benefit would be nothing at the end of the day 😅 But Indeed! You'd need to calculate like 30 seconds in advance, how many holy casts you need exactly! 😂
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Indeed, I've still only found it practical against a striking dummy when there's no pressure to use Holy for anything other than micro-optimization. I personally find it more practical in combat to, while still holding a Comet pre-burst, save my 1 min+ hammer combo until I need it for movement, then paint next hammer motif in time for the next 2 min burst; usually, this already leaves me with less than 10s until Starry Muse is ready and no filler gcds available except Fire/Aero/Water while waiting; in other words, no means of altering the alignment I got. This more practical planning allows me to spend an absolute minimum of Holy at all.
Thanks for the guide, I learned more than I expected to (not an insult to your guides, I'm just full of myself) I hadn't realized you had enough control over the madeen timing to use that instead of moogle almost every buff window - seems like it could be a fun thing to try to optimize even if the payoff seems pretty low It was also kinda nice to get confirmation that you're actually meant to "waste" a hyperphantasia stack on star prism, despite its short gcd. Levels 92-99 did a good job training me to want to spend all 5 stacks on long GCDs, but I did notice I couldn't consistently fit 5 subtractives _and_ star prism _and_ rainbow _and_ all the hammer slaps in for the life of me, and was kinda worried that was a skill issue. Gotta say I'm kinda curious how much spell speed you'd need to do that tho
I'm glad to hear you learned, that's the important thing for me! :D Hmm, well, as far as I know, with like a GCD of 2.47 (which is what I have), Rainbow Drip just barely sneaks in under Starry Muse at the end, so you would probably need a LOT of Spell Speed to be able to sneak in effectively a whole extra Subtractive Palette GCD! Due to the varying GCD timers and speed increases and stuff I am not entirely sure how much it would take, but because of the sheer quantity of guaranteed potency every minute, I get the impression Pictomancer doesn't stand to gain that much from Spell Speed, and so this investment is probably just not worth the hassle! Maybe if someone has a high spell speed Black Mage build already lying about, maybe there is an answer there!
It's nice to get the confirmation that I was doing something rather janky in my burst. I felt like I was since I'd only get one or two hammer hits into the buff window. Time to practice.
Well, I was made aware that below level 90 it is a small gain to use them before you overcap, but once you hit 90 and above, Indeed you should ONLY use holy in white if it has some sort of tactical value or on aoe! (i would also recommend still only doing so below level 90 so you don't develop weird habits while leveling the job 😁😅)
I have find myself seeing the Star Prism buff fall off if I cast it at the end of the 2m burst rotation so I use it at the start of the rotation, is that a loss in damage or can that order on the rotation also be considered?
Definitely use Star Prism earlier, it should be one of your 5 Hyperphantasia spells during burst. Your last hit in a "standard" 2 min burst should be Rainbow Drip.
As spica says, star prism shouldn't be the last action you use in the burst. However, as long as star prism is one of the hyperphantasia actions, then it doesn't matter THAT MUCH what the order of them are! 😊
i probably wont get an answer cuz its been a while since you posted this, but I've been rewatching this every now and then while I'm still learning the job and class in general before I get into my first savages especially since previously I only ever played meele dps's and dnc, but I was wondering on what I should do if I am going into older content SYNCED, do I then just adapt back down to the lvl 80 and 90 rotations and openeners? or does it not matter as much because of how freeform the job already is and how limited it is aswell starting 90 and below as long as I fit all my gcd's and ogcds into my starry muse.
As you scale down to 80 you sort of revert to the openers and rotations that work there. If you go below that things start to change a bit. Notably when you drop below 70 for instance, you lose starry muse, and so, unless your group is coordinating buffs, you can just throw striking muse and living muse (and mog) out wherever you want really in a more free form style! I hope this helps a bit? 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh i was thinking that too, but my game it wasn't changing. I'm still leveling though and I'm only 85, so I'm wondering it's something that changes over time?
It is essentially replacing a use of Comet that shows up in the 2 minute burst! (Which also means that if you are in a dungeon or otherwise engage the fight with already comet readied you can do that!) It does look very random! ^^ I'm glad you found it helpful!
@CaetsuChaijiCh if you KNOW your gonna miss RB is it good to use hammer last cause it's ctit dh and generally hits harder cause I've hit 60k rb and 100ks but hammer always 80 or more
@@ciaranmadden9469 Hmm, yeah you could flip up the order so you do 2 hammer steps, all the 5 spells, then RD and then Hammer lands outside buffs instead. Alternatively you could practice more assuming the problem isn't latency. Alternatively you could also experiment with getting some spell speed, if that is an option for you, that could also help you a bit, and that is especially so if the problem is Latency!
@CaetsuChaijiCh thanks alot it's actually a pain in the ass to be honest I don't know any other job that has it that ridiculously tight hell even gnb is snug enough

This guide will help me make fewer mistakes and have more happy accidents!
Haha! That sounds great! 😁
A great video to brush up on your rotation and show your true colors during prog!
Haha! Your team will be star struck with your performance! 😄

Yeah pictomancer is quite different! 😅😊
Considering Picto has a raid buff, debatably better mobility, and higher personal damage, BLM mains are on suicide watch atm
Thanks so much for these. It has really helped me out leveling and learning
I'm glad to hear that! thank you! :D
Thank you so much. I’ve been waiting for this guide and it’s really helpful! 😊

That's wonderful! Thank you! 😄
Love the macro to remove monochrome tones for the level 82 part
Hehe nicely spotted 😂

So just to be sure, I don't need to worry about Holy in White overcapping at all? Just save it for movement?

Hey! Maybe a dumb question, but what makes the starry muse grass change colors? And what level does the fully colored version happen?
Hmm as far as I know it simply flashes up every time you successfully spend a charge while standing in it 🤔
@@CaetsuChaijiCh i was thinking that too, but my game it wasn't changing. I'm still leveling though and I'm only 85, so I'm wondering it's something that changes over time?
@ChefNurseGuy hmm maybe it is more of a thing when you unlock the feature where spending it grants rainbow bright, which would mean level 92 🤔
@@CaetsuChaijiCh maybe! It would make sense too with the color thing("rainbow"). Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. I'll confirm by tomorrow 😆

I can never get behind a fighting painter. Nor a musician. We go into battle against dragons and a pictomancer brings a paintbrush.
A pictomancer brings what is effectively their magic wand 🤔😊
For comparison, the arcanist jobs go into battle with a book! 😂
I pity your lack of imagination when it comes to magic in fantasy games.
I really wish the buff lasted 1 second longer I struggle so.hard to fit RD in but that's skill issue I guess
Yeah it pretty much only just barely fits, so getting it just right seems to be a requirement! 🤔
