I feel like every small business owner thought we could slap some reels on Tiktok then take off. But when I approached Tiktok with a Snapchat mindset, which was always more organic than IG, I got soooo much engagement. As a food product business, Instagram wants to see me make the food, and Tiktok wants to see me eat it! It’s all about mindset. And being more organic and less stuffy, which Instagram loves. Like you said “authenticity not aesthetic.”
I'm also getting frustrated with IG. I feel like there so much you have to do to keep up...reels, stories, carousels, post multiple times a day. It's a lot when you are building a business while still working a 9-5
I already been saying I need to post on tiktok. I posted like 5 videos on there and didn't get any followers from it. I was following all these people for nothing it seemed like because I wasn't getting any engagement back in return. Seeing all these positive replies has me thinking I should try again.
I’m not on there but after this video I am going to try it because I am in the beginning phases of building my brand awareness and content and I still have a 9-5 so exactly how you described Instagram is how I’ve been feeling so I have barely created lol it’s overwhelming! This takes the pressure off because all I want is to be authentically me!
I would tell people that I feel like I have to be more aesthetic/perfect on IG and for tiktok I can be my true, sassy self haha! Like it's just more fun. And I like that TikTok doesn't have a heavy focus on having the perfect caption. It takes so much pressure off!

Yes Erin! The reach on TikTok is phenomenal. You’re right about just showing up authentically over there. My best performing video on TikTok literally only took seconds to create. I’ve noticed TikTok rewards consistency and the algorithm does a great job of getting relatable content on the right fyp.

As someone who does TikTok, TH-cam, Instagram AND a podcast by herself I had to map out which platforms were worth growing first and I absolutely agree with primary platforms being TikTok & TH-cam! I would love to send you my mind map on how I broke each one down with pros and cons of how you can use those platforms to grow others! Also it’s hard as hell making friends as an adult, I have a YT video about it. & still struggle with it lol. Even harder to make real life friends as an adult but keep pushing girl! Thank you for this video. I keep finding videos about having a “niche” but I don’t have one. I am my own niche. I post about my life and what I’m doing just a bunch of kind of like mini vlogs. I don’t think people should limit themselves to one type of content. I am still able to grow on TikTok…probably not as fast but I still grow! I love TikTok and how people get so real on there.

I have been so against TikTok, as it came on strong just as I was teaching pre teens, and my initial reaction to the platform was that it was aimed at this age group ONLY. But, as an entrepreneur, it has been impossible not to see exactly the trend you described of seeing so much TikTok "overflow" coming into my IG feed. So here I am, a 54 year old who laughs at herself when she realizes I should have let my pre teeners show me how to use it back then and I'd be so far ahead of the curve now! LOL

As someone that does both Instagram and TikTok I’ll say a lot of TH-cam videos confuse you to thinking that both apps could have the same video. Reels don’t do well on TikTok and tiktoks don’t do well on TikTok based off of my own experience

Girl! I’m just now getting on tik tok and reels lol I have the same IG from when I was in HS. I think I’m shadowbanned. I’m stuck at 2k 😩 there’s so many rules and regulations from bigger influencers trying to offer help, as far as 1. Are hashtags good or bad? Do they even matter? 2. Leaving the tik Tok watermark on your reels messing up your views/engagement. Do you have any insight on these things? For both platforms preferably
I don’t have tiktok or Instagram b/c I feel like it’s too much content demand. But if tiktok doesn’t have to be aesthetic then I might probably try that platform first. My main platform is TH-cam and I post the same content on LinkedIn as I do Facebook.

Girl! I’m just now getting on tik tok and reels lol I have the same IG from when I was in HS. I think I’m shadowbanned. I’m stuck at 2k 😩 there’s so many rules and regulations from bigger influencers trying to offer help, as far as 1. Are hashtags good or bad? Do they even matter? 2. Leaving the tik Tok watermark on your reels messing up your views/engagement. Do you have any insight on these things? For both platforms preferably
I don’t have tiktok or Instagram b/c I feel like it’s too much content demand. But if tiktok doesn’t have to be aesthetic then I might probably try that platform first. My main platform is TH-cam and I post the same content on LinkedIn as I do Facebook.
Yep. right now TikTok just shares the content you create. It even messages you to try out trends and new features within the app.
