I, like SO many others... would listen high with my friends and try to be all introspective deciphering the lyrics. Even better was trying to find meaning in misheard lyrics only to find out years later you were wrong and it takes on a whole new meaning

It is like the solo is telling me to live, to breathe and that everything will be alright. Then the next song in the playlist is 99 ways to die.

I’ve always preferred feel over super technical stuff, even better if the solo mixes both like Tornado of Souls or Little Wing, that’s probably why I’m not the metal fan I once was, I appreciate the technical ability a solo requires, but I mostly end up liking the song or album based on the riffs

There was a video of a music school playing atom heart mother suite. The guitarist slips the Time solo right in the middle of it, it was surprising and excellent!
The "afterbirth" solo in "Mr. Crowley " by the incomparable Randy Rhoads STILL gives me chills EVERY TIME I hear it. Since 1980. I'm 55 so not QUITE a "boomer" but WHAT a solo . Imho that is simply the greatest lead break in metal history. Yeah. I'm a touch biased. As for Floyd and Gilmour this "Time" solo and of course the two solos on "Comfortably Numb" are basically untouchable. Musical perfection. Melody and feel seldom duplicated and very rarely topped .
Love this solo, but if I am to choose another favorite, it would be Lost for words from The Division Bell. It's fully acoustic, pretty laid back, feel good energy, it was love at first listen. It is the first solo I learned and among the first things I could consider showing off on guitar
not a huge fan but saw a pink floyd tribute band 2 weeks ago and while the boomer lead guitarist wasn't the most eloquent (can't think of a better word rn) the beautiful and unique note choices and phrasing in gilmour's lead guitar playing still came through... magical sounds at times. they played the entire dark side album and some other songs in a small location. it was great. really made me appreciate pink floyd's and especially david gilmours genius.
I love the part at starting at 1:01. The rest is like sleeping in B minor. David Gillmore said he could just blow on this solo, (he didn't have to think) . You can't go wrong. Good playing as always.

I see that Peavey Bandit 112. I used to play/gig with one of those all the time until I tore the speaker and decided to upgrade to the Peavey 6505 combo. That thing is a workhorse. Super underrated amp.

It's been two decades I gave that song a deep revisit. The 2nd time made me think very seriously about my life. The 3rd time I cried a fountain.
