I’ve been having trouble deciding on a vlogging set up for about two weeks now and watching your video really settled everything for me. Thanks so much! Xoxo
I originally used a tripod and still do, I collapsed the legs for a monopod setup but was a bit bulky. Monopods are awesome been using mine for years, I've got the Velbon Ultra Stick Super 8 monopod with 8 sections. I'm over six foot so needed a longer monopod ;)
Thank you for this .... I agree with you it is such a handy way to vlog and photograph.... Good to know someone who has been using this method for years 👍👍👍
Great vlog again Robert, the monopod is a handy addition to have. If you fully extend it you can get some nice (mini) jib type shots with a bit of practice. It’s also useful as a walking pole and cattle prodder Lol! I made that last one up! Have a great week👍👍👍
Thanks for the tip! Anthony.... and i tell you what mate your not wrong about the cattle prodder.... not had to actually use it yet....but i definitely have it in my hand as i walk through the cow fields.... Thanks for Watching and your comments Much Appreciated
Never used a monopod but i feel like with a nice light wieght gopro, it should make for some AWSOME angles while skating, along with in-camera transitions :D
Forget about the old lady’s face in the window. Who was the old man stood right behind you? Most definitely the way to go with the monopod. Could see the difference every time. I’ve also noticed Rob that the built in stabilisation in your camera seems to distort the background. Unless I need to visit Specsavers again!
Equipment used to make this vlog: Lumix g9 Camera, Panasonic lumix g9, 8-18mm f2.8-4.0 Leica Lens, Peak Design Capture Clip, Rode Video Micro Mic, Manfrotto Pixi Mini Tripod, Manfrotto X Pro 4 section Monopod, Atlas Athlete Backpack, Edited using : Adobe Premiere Pro,
I noticed this as soon as you changed from the GoPro, Robert. It looks like ‘jello’ or ‘rolling shutter’ effect which I don’t think will suit you so well for walking shots. You get a similar effect in cars with some cameras. The footage is great when you’re still, but walking is a bit odd with the background effect. I love my monopod but went cheaper with a Koolehaoda carbon Fiber one. About 1/4 of the price of the Manfrotto carbon fiber pole. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00L2U83B0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 They’re great for taking selfie shots with a load of people as well because at least, with small cameras, you can hold them 6 feet or so away from you. There is one now with a screw thread for a tripod base as well. So it can work as a tripod as long as you’re really careful! The monopod is also brilliant for slow pan shots. Also for leaning against farm gate corners or bushes and use as a tripod. Have you tried playing around with shutter speed while walking? Wondered if this would at least, blur the moving background and so help keep you stable with a less distinct background.
If filming things infront of you, the way you walk and hold the camera can make a huge difference, by walking slowly, holding camera firmly in two hands, using legs as suspensions. but doing selfie filming that won't work so as good. if you search for: filming without a gimbal th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=filming+without+a+gimbal or filming without a stabilizer th-cam.com/users/results?search_query=filming+without+a+stabilizer you will find videos showing this, they will explain it better than what I can with this comment .
Fabulous scenery again and great cinematic work
Many thanks!

The background looks strange when handheld.
Hi Jim.... thanks for commenting pal.... in what way does it look strange.......???
@@RobertJohnKerrUK When your hand holding, and standing still, the background looks like it's moving slightly...if that makes sense.
Never considered using a monopod for video. I've got one gathering dust in the back of the wardrobe, so will give it a go. Thanks!
Yes I know what you mean Jim..... it’s sort of a warping caused by the IBIS but I don’t think it too distracting...👍👍👍
