Our first night staying in Coarsegold, CA we realized we were unable to get into Yosemite without a reservation. We changed directions and ventured out to explore the Sierra National Forest. We headed to Mono Hot Springs. Seemingly not too far from our campground, it actually takes 2 1/2 hours to get to due to the route. Mono Hot Springs is pretty remote, but that's part of the charm. The drive there winds through the mountains, is incredibly scenic and mostly one way. If you're easily car sick getting there may be tough for you. Once you're there, there is a small resort with a general store, cabins, restaurant and a campground. You can park in the day parking for free to explore the springs. Since 1935 people have been coming to this remote resort and during non-covid times you can even book a spa treatment. Even with limited things open, the springs make this visit (and drive) worthwild. You hike to spring after spring and it was a ton of fun finding each. Some of the springs have stone tubs filled with the spring water and all vary in temperature. We both felt like this place was a hidden gem we were lucky to find!
