      No probs. Guessed it was that.
      IMHO the copyright rules are so random. A short section being talked over has to be pulled when whole songs being played in "reaction" videos get the green light?! Makes no sense to me.

    What lovely, insightful, kind , and positive reviews from Dusty. Even when a particular song did not appeal to her, she had something encouraging to say about the group. And, it's great to hear one of the reviews that is positive about Motown. It was also great to hear her encouragement of Kiki Dee, another powerful female singer such as herself. Love Dusty and RIP. ❤

  • @Sp33gan
    @Sp33gan ปีที่แล้ว +9

    She was trying to be so nice to all of them, even when she didn't like the Spoonful's Six O'Clock, she still managed to be kind enough to say their next record is going to be better. Her encouragement of Kiki Dee shows a grace and kindness, considering Dee's material would be potential chart rivals to her own work. She's absolutely right about the backing, though. Dusty's years in the industry shows an appreciation for the song as a whole, not just the singer. If Penny was going to pick anyone as a temporary replacement, Dusty Springfield was the right choice.
    Thanks always, for sharing, YP! I look forward to every installment ♥

    1:30 "Six Oclock" grew on me the first time I heard it. Sure, the chorus was boring, but it set the stage for the verses which grew progressively more intense, with one of my favorite crescendo's of all time at the end. I wonder if Dusty warmed up to it eventually.

    Some interesting singles for Dusty to critique and she genuinely enjoyed the vast majority of them. Dusty’s enthusiasm for the music her fellow-musicians were making reminded me of Steve Marriott’s critique, in that both Dusty and Steve were massively talented themselves yet always appeared to be very respectful of their peers. Speaking of SM, I’d never heard that Small Faces song before but didn’t think it sounded up to their usual (excellent) fare? Overall, May was certainly an exciting month and the Charts were fantastic! Yet another fascinating look at the music I grew up loving. As always, your outro is lovely too, I think your arrangements are really clever, you obviously put a good deal of thought into them. Thanks YP, you’ve done it again!

    Incredible to see that chart...what happened to pop? Good to hear Dusty's thoughts, surprised by her rapture over The Fortunes. I have a velvet jacket which belonged to one of them. They are one of the few 60's bands I never took much notice of, but the b side of their single Here It Comes Again ( I think) surprised me recently, really good feel in the rhythm section and full on r&b.
    Cheers anyway, great as usual.

    The Irish Catholic songstress from London, with a voice that could delve into gritty soul and then soar into shattering heartbreak (try not to be moved by her rendition of "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me"), unflinchingly upfront from early days, when it was so risky to do so, about her same-sex preference, gone too soon from cancer. Here she proves her excellent taste and unerring sensibility as she expertly fills in for a flu-ridden Penny Valentine for one week in that fleeting and deeply-missed season, spring 1967. While I may not agree with all her opinions (The Fortunes never did it for me; watered-down Righteous Brothers to my ears), no one can question her perspicacity. We all still miss you, Dusty. And thank you again, YP; another flawless video revisit of a magic time.

  • @paulgoldstein2569

    Dusty, a great lady did an almost perfect review all the way along here. My only disagreements are that she underrated that track from The Lovin' Spoonful which I think was one of their strongest and greatest, and that the Kiki Dee was only passable to me. Dusty should have preferred the B side of this, like with one or two others here, as the B side was actually quite good, although I wasn't a huge fan of hers. But not an actual duff track here. I had never heard of Los Brincos. But even that sounded good, and Dusty surprisingly rated it.

    • @YesterdaysPapers
      @YesterdaysPapers  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Los Brincos were great. Check out their album "Contrabando". Excellent stuff.

      @@YesterdaysPapers I think you were partly right. I played the tracks on TH-cam. There were some standouts, plus lesser goods. But I noticed there were 26 tracks. A lot of them must have been bonus tracks. All sounded 1967-68.
      I also investigated all of the singles and two self-titled albums they released in Spain from 1964-66. But this was obviously more influenced on the mid sixties British Invasion sound, most typically The Beatles. But they quite obviously lacked the songwriting skills of Lennon/McCartney, as apart from the occasional standout, it all sounds run-of-the-mill. At times, their Beatles influence was too obvious, although there was the occasional 12 string guitar, seemingly influenced by The Byrds. A few of those early songs sounded rather Spanish, but with a British Invasion sound. It seemed odd that they sang some of those early songs in English, when they never had a record release here at that time. This is one of their better earlier songs.
      th-cam.com/video/E99HX-tpnU8/w-d-xo.html
      But I think the best way to get their complete recordings is on two double CDs on Sony which are playable on sites like Spotify, called Lo Mejor De Los Brincos, Vols 1 & 2. The sound quality of many of the tracks isn't very good. But that may be how the recordings were made in Spain, where the recording facilities in those days may not have been very good.

    • @YesterdaysPapers
      @YesterdaysPapers  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulgoldstein2569 Glad you liked some of their stuff, Paul. The line-up on the "Contrabando" album is quite different from the line-up on their earlier singles. One of their best singles from their early days is a song called "Tu Me Dijiste Adiós". Great melancholic tune with a fantastic melody and very remniscent of The Byrds.

    • @YesterdaysPapers
      @YesterdaysPapers  ปีที่แล้ว

      BTW, the "Contrabando" album was recorded in London and produced by Larry Page. Most of their stuff sounds great on vinyl but it seems that whoever is in charge of reissuing their recordings hasn't done a good job.

    • @paulgoldstein2569
      @paulgoldstein2569 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@YesterdaysPapers I came across that track when examining all the tracks on their two double CDs on Sony. I thought that was one of the standouts, a rather unusual tune. Al the tracks on Contrabando are on the second of those two double CDs, but in different playing order. I discovered that three of the four tracks on their two UK Page One singles they recorded in English and Spanish, each over the same backing track. But only the Spanish language versions appear on either of those two double CDs. The only track on those singles that they only recorded in English, The Train, appears on the second double CD in English. It appears that Sony have the rights to their material, but seem to have not actually remastered the tracks. But it was a good new name to conjure with. There seems to be a lot of their compilations on bootleg labels.
