Or maybe, because these are politicians concerned about their political careers, making these rules. They want to avoid the embarrassment of having to look weak negotiating for the return of hostages. Look how badly Netanyahu has been scandalized by all of this. They don't want to release prisoners in exchange for hostages. Many of the prisoners in Israeli custody are children both boys and girls. Many have been held without charges for years. The Israeli thought police have taken it upon themselves to convict 99.7% in military tribunals Palestinians. While at the same time Israeli settlers can murder, steal and terrorize Palestinians and either do so with complete impunity or only face civil court and get a slap on the hand or less.
So basically the IDF doesn't want to release anyone they've arrested in the middle of the night for doing nothing most of the time in exchange for their people.

Well, I watched his whole interview with Freddie Sayers on TH-cam... When he says that the realist logic applies essentially to relations between states and not to a territory under occupation, he nonetheless highlights that the tools of the realist logic can be used to analyze the situation in Gaza from a moral standpoint. Professor Mearsheimer says: "... there's no reason that I can't put my lenses, MY ANALYTICAL LENSES, on what's going on in Gaza and what the Israelis are doing. And there's no reason I can't assess it from a moral point of view." (Look at 16;04 in his interview on Unherd with Freddie Sayers)
His logic is not bound with morality, especially in case of Israel. He extricated his soul in favor of "real politic".

That video by Max has been debunked and it's a sick lie. What really happened is Hamas murdered them and filmed it. There are videos from their body cameras. No tanks or helicopters killed them.

Yep. That's why they didn't let outside investigators into the areas that came under attack until some days or more later. They had to get their story straight to cover for what they themself did. It was only leaked by either IDF who had the footage or survivors with the courage to tell the truth as to what actually happened. More and more is coming to light about Oct. 7th. And with each new revelation it becomes very clear, at least to me, that they knew in advance, allowed it to happen, did little to stop it, took too long to stop it and murdered their own in the process.
