As a husband and a father you owe it to your family to wear a harness every time you go up a tree! That deer is for sure still alive. Turn your draw weight down a little...get a harness lol...trim some more lanes...and go back and get him! Good luck

Exactly brother Not sure if u were able to, but I went through frame by frame and with that steep angle it looks like he literally skipped one off it’s shoulder or spine. No penetration which explains the clean arrow. The frame where the arrow should be passing through the arrow is actually a few feet above the buck after the previous frames showing it was coming in high So s Coming in high at that angle it just skipped right off
I don't hunt but I love watching and being educated. Especially when it's you and Mike. You both put everything in just for us. I can't imagine how hard these video are to make by yourself. So many variables! You are a awesome and humble human. It takes a REAL MAN to lets us see these raw emotions and heartbreak. So as a none hunter I can't judge on what I only see. It's the out come and the truth of it. 💜
That buck is still alive, he'll turn back up in a week or so. Did the same exact thing several yrs back on a big 8 a week before gun season, he walked through on the opener of gun w/ a doe. No worries on him, still sucks to hurt an animal that way. Also, wear a harness every time you climb in a tree stand, even when hangin 'em. You got a family counting on you.
Blew an arrow through a doe last fall about like that. Saw her this fall. She's in freezer. While processing, checked out the scars from the inside. Darker brown hair around the entrance and exit on the hide. Had healed nicely

When a hunter shows he misses it really shows you that it happens to everyone but when you see all these hunters getting huge deer they don’t show the hunt that they missed a deer all they want you to see is them killing the deer you are a true hunter thanks for sharing this hunt with us it was amazing
Watching em come in and then fight that close was just awesome to see. It's amazing watching God's creatures in the woods. I used to go sit in abandoned stands in the spring and summer and just take pics of deer, coons, squirrels and whatever else decided to make its presence known. Keep up the great content 🙏🙏

Don’t let this kind of stuff scare you away Joe. Yes when something like this happens it’s heartbreaking and you’ll never forget it. But bow hunting is also something very personal and it has been a great love of mine for many years.
I spined a deer a couple years back at 14 yards but below me. I felt horrible. I was able to put a second arrow in to finish the job quickly. Don't feel to0 bad for the animal I think you missed it completely. In slowmo it looks like you may have scratched the backside of the left shoulder but nothing that would affect the animal. You'll see him on the game cameras soon. Keep at it and clear out your shooting lanes a lil more so you arent trying to thread your bow so tight between branches. Thanks for the videos buddy!
I had a bad shot on a deer 20 years ago and I still can remember every second of it. People that truly respect the animals will always struggle with this reality. You will emerge an even better hunter and sportsman.

That's why it's called hunting and not just killing. You're not always going to come away with that trophy you've been chasing. All the hardships just make the success so much sweeter. I also took a good look and managed to stop it right at impact, that buck is just fine. It looked like one broad head scratched his back then the the arrow shaft hit him and deflected the arrow up and it bounced over to the big rock. Misses happen, but clean misses are a blessing brother. you spooked him but he's definitely still around.

I don't get to hunt often and I've never hunted with a bow but you are the kind of hunter we need in the woods because the passion and emotion you showed shows you care about the animal. Misses happen and its sad to say that sometimes we miss our mark and maybe wound the animal but God blessed you with an amazing hunt and a great lesson. When bowhuntung, always practice draw from a new stand. I always do this the first time I'm in a new stand. I feel for you. I've bow hunted for 35 years and have did the exact thing that just happened to you. The good thing is, that deer isn't dead. Keep up the hard work!
I hate that the buck got away. But I think this will be a memory that will stick with you longer than if you made the perfect shot. Great video Justin, most people wouldn't have shown this, but you did and that's why your my favorite.
With my 20+ years of bowhunting experience, the buck will be fine. The rut will do probably do more damage to his health than your arrow did. At most, you barely grazed his back. You didnt do any damage to his spine, lungs, or his way of life. Hunters who bow hunt long enough will run into situations and experiences like this and you will learn more from these moments than you will from succeeding or getting lucky. Not only do you become a better hunter from this hunt but because you were able to share this with thousands of viewers, hopefully they can become slightly better hunters as well.
I don’t hunt what so ever. Maybe for pheasant once or twice in OKC. I’m from From California though. True fans know the heart ache you have man. I know that you are VERY respectful to the animals you go after. I hope you found him if you went back out the next day or he healed up and is living his best life. I don't hunt but from watching y'all on here I know that what happened is a part of hunting. Loved your video. I felt like I was with you. My heard was ripping out of my chest. The arrow did a funny flip on exit, but I thought it was a mortal wound. I also felt your pain and loss too. Thanks so much for the hunt. Take care.
My largest buck with a bow dropped at the sound of my bow and the arrow hit him in the spine almost between his shoulder blades, and he went down behind a pile of brush paralyzed, so he couldn't run, and he started like screaming or bellowing, and I couldn't get another shot on him so I had to climb down so I could get to him to put him down, and I'll admit it, It broke my heart, and I broke down and cried. I felt so bad! Things like that are going to happen when hunting with a bow, and you're just never ready for it. Don't kick yourself too hard, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't back there the next day eating. I do hope you see him again so it will put your mind at ease.

First off...Congrats on the amazing sit that night! Secondly, I applaud you for sharing the experience and posting this video showing what happened. And lastly...I played that shot back over and over....That shot looked like a miss high. But you said you saw him and he looked hit and you saw a little blood. If you did hit him, I don't see how that would have been a fatal shot. Don't duck hunt tomorrow...start gridding that area with a track on the ONX and if he is dead, you may just turn him up. I don't think he is though, and you may just get another shot at him.....hit that area hard and hunt it a few more times...you might just be surprised by his presence again in a day or so. Two last things id like to mention....you may want to turn the poundage down a bit. You want to be able to pull back without all the extra movement, and wow that was scary watching ya get into that stand. It aint worth falling out of a tree and getting a broke leg or worse.....get a harness, trim some more branches and maybe invest in some hang on steps or something. Thats a spot worth going back to for sure.
I've watched the shot at 21:30, a dozen times. Looks like a near miss, over the spine. No chance it's mortal wound. Shake it off, you'll get him next time. Great footage. You're a great sportsman and a favorite tuber. Go get em!
You never forget your first ... or ALL your misses/mistakes. My son shot a 150" buck last year and when I was cutting up the backstraps I found my friend's Luminok from the previous year

You gotta try a bowmar nose button.. It's completely changed me as a bow hunter. Having the consistent anchor point with the nose button keeps me from pulling or pushing my shots.. Tiny piece of plastic that makes a world of difference. Don't get me wrong bad shots happen but they happen less when your anchor point is consistent

LFG, don't be down! Rejoice in the experience of that hour. Yes, I get the disappointment that you didn't get to take the deer. BUT, you can be happy to know it was a clean miss. I am an old, disabled hunter who is an archery hunter. I had a clean miss on a doe in September. However, I knew it was a clean miss being able to watch the deer and reveled in the experience of my guide and I trying to reload my modified compound bow while surrounded by about ten alert deer. We didn't get it done that evening. However, we were back in the blind that next morning and I took my first whitetail from sitting in my trackchair (wheelchair with tracks) with a modified compound bow that the Montana Bowhunters Association gave me this year. My point is that we as hunters should enjoy the experience and knowledge that you might get another opportunity for that missed deer next time!!! But this was an exciting video for sure!!! Keep your chin up!!!

I had the same thing happen this year I shot high and wasn’t able to recover the deer I got a dog in the next day and tried my hardest to find him but he didn’t die the dog jumped him and he seemed fine even though there was a good bit of blood. Every bow hunter goes through it. You did your part by practicing on and off season, and trying your best to recover the deer. Keep your head up and God bless.

Keep your head high brother. It’s true we all have had it happen and it’s the worst feeling in the world. But this shows that you respect the animal and that goes a long way. Keep at it with your head up high.
The very first time I went hunting I was in a tree stand with my bow and a deer walked within 15 yards of my tree, looked up at me and barked just like a dog... it freaked me out. He walked five more yards and took a nice dirt nap after that. He was a small but symmetrical 8 point. I was actually on a ranch in Kalkaska Michigan, it was my Make-A-Wish foundation trip. Long story short. I had bone cancer(Osteosarcoma) when I was 16 years old. I am now 35 and kick that Cancer's butt. Anyways I will never forget the bark that buck made. Very cool content man your camera skills and editing skills are so on point. Thank you so much for all your hard work to bring us this beautiful content!!! It is very hard for me to get around because of the bone cancer I could do like a ground blind situation but no more tree stands for me so it is very rewarding to watch your videos because you make me feel like I am right in that tree stand with you. As a cameraman that is a very hard thing to do I would imagine, but Mr. l.f.g. you are such a good advocate for outdoorsman everywhere and I really got to compliment you on your filming/editing skills you are next level my friend. 🎗️ 🦌
The best part of missing deer is the waking up again excited for the next opportunity to see deer. I know it sucks but a miss is better than a bad hit. Chin up Rackley!
I had a similar experience this year in Montana with a mule deer. It was and easy shot I knew I could make at 30 yds only I was still hunting on the ground. I had a long stand off watching the deer for about 40 minutes, perfect wind, and finally was given a broadside shot. The deer jumped the string and I hit the top of his leg breaking it instantly. I found the arrow and it had bone fragments and hair on the broadhead. Not a drop of blood. I looked for him for a day and half and never found him. Heartbreaking man I feel for you. The highs and lows are no joke! Thankfully I put one down a few weeks ago with my rifle and I know you'll do the same. Happy hunting man I love your videos.

I lost the first deer I ever stuck with an arrow. I know how you're feeling, and -- based off that first experience -- I never thought I would bow hunt again. Since then I've realized that the experience is completely different than rifle hunting. A perfect example of that is what you experience here -- up close, smelling the smells, hearing the crunching of corn and adrenaline pumping the whole time. A box stand with a rifle doesn't compete with that. This is my third season in a row that I'm only utilizing a bow and every sit is a blessing. Chin up, be humbled, learn and move forward.

Dude, I watched the video, if you use the coma and period keys while paused you can advance frame by frame. at 21:30 I got a perfect view of your arrow just skimming his back, He even flinches downward from the scrape. He's fine. Not a hit. No harm, nothing to worry about. At least you didn't miss the same one 20 times with 3 different rifles. I'm never living that fiasco down. But I did learn a lot from it, and I think its pretty funny. But your concern shows your character, and we love it.
Wow. An absolute rollercoaster of emotions all of which perfectly align to my only hunt this year. In a tree stand with my dad in a perch just above me, a doe beds down 10 yards beneath my stand with 5 bucks following. We watched The Head Honcho brush off the competition and circle her for 25 minutes. Eventually, the doe gets up and walks in front of a shooting lane. The buck follows and before you know it he’s “passing on” those big buck genetics right beneath us perfectly broadside. I draw my bow and line up the vitals but hesitate not wanting to hit the doe on the pass through. I let him do his thing and he kicks off and juts forward a couple steps. He’s right beneath me at this point but now with a branch obstructing. I draw back and lean sideways , still with a shot but at an awkward angle and let one fly. Right away I knew the shot was a bit for back but hoped the Rage broad head would make up for it. The doe ran off and he chased after her and just never stopped moving. My dad swears he saw stomach leaking from the exit wound. Gut shots can take 12-24 hours to bleed out. We found blood but because he never stopped moving it was a few spots here and there. Couldn’t track him past the two neighboring properties. The perfect hunt with a less then perfect result. Kicked myself for a week straight. I can now appreciate the fact I got to witness something special with my dad right there with me which brings me some piece. A shot I’ve made a thousand times in my backyard…just not when it mattered. You hope it carries over in the field but at the end of the day there’s so much going on so quickly it’s tough to control every aspect. Keep the head up, LFG. What a story you have.
I can say don't let it eat at you, but it will. You are running cameras, trying to hunt, and doing a phenomenal job! In my 35+ years of bow hunting I have lost 3 deer and I still remember every detail of each hunt like it was yesterday, and they were all 20+ years ago. I got my first bow buck at 50 years old just last season. I thought I knew better as I got older, but then I lost a pig a few weeks ago that I shot with a bow....and even that ole nasty pig still haunts me! I posted a video, check it out, but warning it's nothing like the quality of videos you are making. keep your head up brother and keep making them vids!
We all miss man, I had a 10 point at 40yds and I missed just low, had a little bit of blood on the broadhead, hardly and blood on the ground. A week or two later, had him come out during rifle season and didn’t miss that time. The next time you see him and get him, you will feel way better getting him than you would’ve today.

I also took a good look and managed to stop it right at impact, that buck is just fine. It looked like one broad head scratched his back then the the arrow shaft hit him and deflected the arrow up and it bounced over to the big rock. Misses happen, but clean misses are a blessing brother. you spooked him but he's definitely still around.

I don't get to hunt often and I've never hunted with a bow but you are the kind of hunter we need in the woods because the passion and emotion you showed shows you care about the animal. Misses happen and its sad to say that sometimes we miss our mark and maybe wound the animal but God blessed you with an amazing hunt and a great lesson. I’m obsessed with fishing, not a big hunter, in fact I’ve only ever hunted for quail….of all ur vids, this has been the most powerful. 39 years old and may take up buck hunting becuz of you LFG, don’t get down on urself, good comes from bad. When bowhuntung, always practice draw from a new stand. I always do this the first time I'm in a new stand. I feel for you. I've bow hunted for 35 years and have did the exact thing that just happened to you. The good thing is, that deer isn't dead. Keep up the hard work!
I hate that the buck got away. But I think this will be a memory that will stick with you longer than if you made the perfect shot. Great video Justin, most people wouldn't have shown this, but you did and that's why your my favorite.

With my 20+ years of bowhunting experience, the buck will be fine. The rut will do probably do more damage to his health than your arrow did. At most, you barely grazed his back. You didnt do any damage to his spine, lungs, or his way of life.
Hunters who bow hunt long enough will run into situations and experiences like this and you will learn more from these moments than you will from succeeding or getting lucky. Not only do you become a better hunter from this hunt but because you were able to share this with thousands of viewers, hopefully they can become slightly better hunters as well.

I don’t hunt what so ever. Maybe for pheasant once or twice in OKC. I’m from From California though. Only bass fish when I can…I appreciate this comment a lot (and obviously this video) for informing people like me the ethical and correct ways of doing something that is out of reach for us to do.

My largest buck with a bow dropped at the sound of my bow and the arrow hit him in the spine almost between his shoulder blades, and he went down behind a pile of brush paralyzed, so he couldn't run, and he started like screaming or bellowing, and I couldn't get another shot on him so I had to climb down so I could get to him to put him down, and I'll admit it, It broke my heart, and I broke down and cried. I felt so bad! Things like that are going to happen when hunting with a bow, and you're just never ready for it. Don't kick yourself too hard, I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't back there the next day eating. I do hope you see him again so it will put your mind at ease.

First off...Congrats on the amazing sit that night! Secondly, I applaud you for sharing the experience and posting this video showing what happened. And lastly...I played that shot back over and over....That shot looked like a miss high. But you said you saw him and he looked hit and you saw a little blood. If you did hit him, I don't see how that would have been a fatal shot. Don't duck hunt tomorrow...start gridding that area with a track on the ONX and if he is dead, you may just turn him up. I don't think he is though, and you may just get another shot at him.....hit that area hard and hunt it a few more times...you might just be surprised by his presence again in a day or so. Two last things id like to mention....you may want to turn the poundage down a bit. You want to be able to pull back without all the extra movement, and wow that was scary watching ya get into that stand. It aint worth falling out of a tree and getting a broke leg or worse.....get a harness, trim some more branches and maybe invest in some hang on steps or something. Thats a spot worth going back to for sure.

You gotta try a bowmar nose button.. It's completely changed me as a bow hunter. Having the consistent anchor point with the nose button keeps me from pulling or pushing my shots.. Tiny piece of plastic that makes a world of difference. Don't get me wrong bad shots happen but they happen less when your anchor point is consistent

LFG, don't be down! Rejoice in the experience of that hour. Yes, I get the disappointment that you didn't get to take the deer. BUT, you can be happy to know it was a clean miss. I am an old, disabled hunter who is an archery hunter. I had a clean miss on a doe in September. However, I knew it was a clean miss being able to watch the deer and reveled in the experience of my guide and I trying to reload my modified compound bow while surrounded by about ten alert deer. We didn't get it done that evening. However, we were back in the blind that next morning and I took my first whitetail from sitting in my trackchair (wheelchair with tracks) with a modified compound bow that the Montana Bowhunters Association gave me this year. My point is that we as hunters should enjoy the experience and knowledge that you might get another opportunity for that missed deer next time!!! But this was an exciting video for sure!!! Keep your chin up!!!

I had the same thing happen this year I shot high and wasn’t able to recover the deer I got a dog in the next day and tried my hardest to find him but he didn’t die the dog jumped him and he seemed fine even though there was a good bit of blood. Every bow hunter goes through it. You did your part by practicing on and off season, and trying your best to recover the deer. Keep your head up and God bless.

The very first time I went hunting I was in a tree stand with my bow and a deer walked within 15 yards of my tree, looked up at me and barked just like a dog... it freaked me out. He walked five more yards and took a nice dirt nap after that. He was a small but symmetrical 8 point. I was actually on a ranch in Kalkaska Michigan, it was my Make-A-Wish foundation trip. Long story short. I had bone cancer(Osteosarcoma) when I was 16 years old. I am now 35 and kick that Cancer's butt. Anyways I will never forget the bark that buck made. Very cool content man your camera skills and editing skills are so on point. Thank you so much for all your hard work to bring us this beautiful content!!! It is very hard for me to get around because of the bone cancer I could do like a ground blind situation but no more tree stands for me so it is very rewarding to watch your videos because you make me feel like I am right in that tree stand with you. As a cameraman that is a very hard thing to do I would imagine, but Mr. l.f.g. you are such a good advocate for outdoorsman everywhere and I really got to compliment you on your filming/editing skills you are next level my friend. 🎗️ 🦌
The best part of missing deer is the waking up again excited for the next opportunity to see deer. I know it sucks but a miss is better than a bad hit. Chin up Rackley!
I had a similar experience this year in Montana with a mule deer. It was and easy shot I knew I could make at 30 yds only I was still hunting on the ground. I had a long stand off watching the deer for about 40 minutes, perfect wind, and finally was given a broadside shot. The deer jumped the string and I hit the top of his leg breaking it instantly. I found the arrow and it had bone fragments and hair on the broadhead. Not a drop of blood. I looked for him for a day and half and never found him. Heartbreaking man I feel for you. The highs and lows are no joke! Thankfully I put one down a few weeks ago with my rifle and I know you'll do the same. Happy hunting man I love your videos.

I lost the first deer I ever stuck with an arrow. I know how you're feeling, and -- based off that first experience -- I never thought I would bow hunt again. Since then I've realized that the experience is completely different than rifle hunting. A perfect example of that is what you experience here -- up close, smelling the smells, hearing the crunching of corn and adrenaline pumping the whole time. A box stand with a rifle doesn't compete with that. This is my third season in a row that I'm only utilizing a bow and every sit is a blessing. Chin up, be humbled, learn and move forward.

Dude, I watched the video, if you use the coma and period keys while paused you can advance frame by frame. at 21:30 I got a perfect view of your arrow just skimming his back, He even flinches downward from the scrape. He's fine. Not a hit. No harm, nothing to worry about. At least you didn't miss the same one 20 times with 3 different rifles. I'm never living that fiasco down. But I did learn a lot from it, and I think its pretty funny. But your concern shows your character, and we love it.

It happens to everyone that hunts...the shot was high...you will see that buck again alive and well guaranteed!! Chin up LFG!!
Wow. An absolute rollercoaster of emotions all of which perfectly align to my only hunt this year. In a tree stand with my dad in a perch just above me, a doe beds down 10 yards beneath my stand with 5 bucks following. We watched The Head Honcho brush off the competition and circle her for 25 minutes. Eventually, the doe gets up and walks in front of a shooting lane. The buck follows and before you know it he’s “passing on” those big buck genetics right beneath us perfectly broadside. I draw my bow and line up the vitals but hesitate not wanting to hit the doe on the pass through. I let him do his thing and he kicks off and juts forward a couple steps. He’s right beneath me at this point but now with a branch obstructing. I draw back and lean sideways , still with a shot but at an awkward angle and let one fly. Right away I knew the shot was a bit for back but hoped the Rage broad head would make up for it. The doe ran off and he chased after her and just never stopped moving. My dad swears he saw stomach leaking from the exit wound. Gut shots can take 12-24 hours to bleed out. We found blood but because he never stopped moving it was a few spots here and there. Couldn’t track him past the two neighboring properties. The perfect hunt with a less then perfect result. Kicked myself for a week straight. I can now appreciate the fact I got to witness something special with my dad right there with me which brings me some piece. A shot I’ve made a thousand times in my backyard…just not when it mattered. You hope it carries over in the field but at the end of the day there’s so much going on so quickly it’s tough to control every aspect. Keep the head up, LFG. What a story you have.
I can say don't let it eat at you, but it will. You are running cameras, trying to hunt, and doing a phenomenal job! In my 35+ years of bow hunting I have lost 3 deer and I still remember every detail of each hunt like it was yesterday, and they were all 20+ years ago. I got my first bow buck at 50 years old just last season. I thought I knew better as I got older, but then I lost a pig a few weeks ago that I shot with a bow....and even that ole nasty pig still haunts me! I posted a video, check it out, but warning it's nothing like the quality of videos you are making. keep your head up brother and keep making them vids!

We all miss man, I had a 10 point at 40yds and I missed just low, had a little bit of blood on the broadhead, hardly and blood on the ground. A week or two later, had him come out during rifle season and didn’t miss that time. The next time you see him and get him, you will feel way better getting him than you would’ve today.

At least you got to see all of that, I missed 5 different deer last year but I’ve been practicing all spring and summer and got my first buck this year. Just keep practicing and always know there’s another deer out there for you

Bad shots are gonna happen if you hunt enough and long enough. I hit a doe high this year with a bow and she’s still walking around with an arrow in her back. Stick with it and you’ll get one. Love the video man, and best of luck to you
