My initial idea was to get the Bose qc noise cancelation earbuds. It was on sale for $199 on Amazon. After listening to this review and with all the hype that some over reviewers had about the Sony xm4. I ordered the Sony xm4 from Amazon for $248. I had the Sony for a week it was a disappointment for me. The volume was not loud enough. Hardly any base even after messing around with the eq and had the LDAC on. I even asked my friend who has two Sony headphone.. He felt disappointed too.. I returned the Sony xm4 and by the time I ordered the Bose qc noise cancelation earbuds the sale was over and I had to get it for the full price of $279. To me the Bose in sound, base, anc and comfort is much superior to the Sony xm4.
The earbuds can be used independently. Bose has had a few updates and if you take one out it will automatically switch off the one your not using and you can use one earbud instead
Comfort, fit and ability to stay in your ear is subjective to the user. For me, the Bose fits great and is more important. The Bose ANC is amazing. Extra battery life and ANC won't make any difference if they are uncomfortable and don't seal/stay in your ear properly, which totally defeat the purpose of the earbud in the first place.
I own the Bose earbuds and they can be used separately if both Buds are not in the case. But I guess that defeats the purpose of extending battery life. The right bud can be used while left bud is in the case, but not visa versa.
Owning both, I must say they are both great and have there purposes for me. I use the Sonys primary for listening to music and for portability and the Bose for comfort and when making phone calls, probably the best earbuds for calls especially in noisy environments. Working in a noisy machine shop they are the only pair of buds I’ve used where people can hear me clearly, and I can wear them all day without discomfort. I use them both and love them both.
If the bose had independent bud usage they would be the best earbuds for me. I've used the bose qc the Sony xm4 and beats fit pro & as far as bass sony is last which surprised me because of people praising sony for bass it just lacks the deep basslines as the other two imo.
I purchased both with the intention of returning the one I like less. I cannot break things down technically but just doing simple ear test the Bose wins hands down on both sound quality and noise cancelling. As soon as you put on the Bose the NC kicks in and clearly apparent, the Sony not so much. The Bose sound a lot richer and gets louder. The Sonys just sound flat this is even after fiddling with the EQ. I also have a pair of Soundpeats T2, I’d put those ahead of the Sony as far as Sound quality. Kind of disappointing, I even got a deal on the Sonys for $150 and I still feel they’re overpriced. I have tried Sony NC headphones such as the sony wch 700n which I think are pretty good in both sound and NC, not far from Bose, but so far not impressed with their earbuds line. I have also tried the wf800n which I don’t think the WF1000xm4 are that much better than. I think there’s a huge gap between the Bose and the Sonys, I’m not sure how anyone can put them in the same class. The WF1000xm4 should go for under $100, should be closer to $50 than $100. The Bose although high priced, I rather pay $200 for the Bose than pay $100 for the Sonys if they ever got to that point. The quality difference to me is just so apparent. Unless I’m not wearing the Sonys properly or adjusting tje eq right but if I have to fiddle around that much than I don’t think it’s me. I’ve never owned a Bose product I didn’t regret and the QC earbuds are no exception.
Well I think that you maybe didn't get the right seal with the SONYs. I got the right seal according to sony app with provided tips and to me sonys doesn't sound flat at all. They sound pretty good with quite large soundstage (impressive for how small they are). They have good instrument separation and to me for that price they are very good sounding earbuds packed with features and they are also very practical. Problem is that they are quite itchy after like an hour but otherwise almost perfect earbuds to me.
Thanks for the great review. I am a truck driver and right now I'm using the Galaxy buds Pro. I'm concerned about call quality in noisy environments. Would you recommend with Sony's over Samsung buds Pro or another earbud? Thanks
Anyone with the Sony's for godake, throw away the included eartips, they are so bad it's unbelievable they include it when they have such a good product. Instead, get your self a good pair of regular silicone tips (or foam if you prefer). The comfort and ANC is night and day when you get good fitting ANC.

Sennheiser momentum 2 💯 best . German quality Pros - Sound ( bose and sony no where close ) Battery life worth 28 hrs with case ANC better than airpods and Sony's ( but sennheiser ANC is 2 nd to bose quite comfort ) Audio - clean sound stage and wide separation ( unlike sony , which always boost base unwantedly and hinder the natural sound ) Passive noise cancellation is good than sony because of tighter seal . Won't fall off from ear ( sony wf 1000 xm3 always almost comes out even we are sitting ) Cons - Microphone is totally waste leading to poor call quality This is only problem I felt Coz so called Case Portablity issue - not problem for me No wireless charging - who cares ( coz weekly once if u full charge that's enough , then why wireless needed ) also for wireless charging u need wireless charging adapter Many say EQ is problem , seriously ?? Bose QC are just way to big imo and the case too, you kind of look like a fool wearing them. I could only use them for working out.
