She wasn't warning him about the chair. She was reminding him that Milhouse's mom and her boyfriend were taking them out. If you watched the episode, you'd know that.
An underrated part is how Pyro looks in genuine pain during the first sequence but manages to hide it, it sets up the pay off with Homer so much better
How would you act if somebody broke a chair over your bath, unexpectedly while naked in a bathtub? Probably many splinters, multiple cuts, possible spine facture, and if it got infected, would end Homer's life.
What makes this work is the animation and the voice acting; it’s all so genuine and committed. Sounds obvious but back in these seasons there was dedication to the acting and the animation really selling the characters as being genuine. So when Homer gets nailed by that chair, you really _feel_ it. The yell itself, but also that double-take Homer does afterward, where the animator took the time to show Homer replaying the moment in his head and _processing_ what his son just did to him. It isn’t some robotic gag, but a real moment of trauma that just dropped on him. That’s what always turned me off Family Guy; not the humor, but the animation being robotic and jumpy, it just doesn’t feel the same.
The double-ow makes your point very well, also. I've probably seen this clip 1,000 times and it makes me laugh every time -- but only when Homer does the second 'ow'.
