Any inputs on the 28th Prince of Wales Light Cavalry, my great grandfather Risaldar Hari Singh served with the unit. He was appointed as Indian ADC duration from Lord Ampthill to Earl of Wellington. He was awarded a sword of honor in 1904 and R V O.
Since you mentioned Fane's Horse, here is a list of the successor regiments currently serving in the Indian Army: Skinner's Horse - 1st Horse (Skinner's Horse), Indian Army Gardner's Horse - 2nd Lancers (Gardner's Horse), Indian Army Hodson's Horse - 4th Horse (Hodson's Horse), Indian Army Probyn's Horse - 5th Horse, Indian Army Watson's Horse - to Pakistan Gordon's Horse - 8th Light Cavalry, Indian Army Lumsden's Guides (the mounted portion) - to Pakistan Daly's Horse - to Pakistan Jacob's Horse - 14th Horse, Indian Army Fane's Horse - to Pakistan Murray's Jat Lancers - to India, raised again subsequently as 20th Lancers Cureton's Multanis - to India, raised again subsequently as 20th Lancers Several of these were merged regiments. The Deccan Horse, Poona Horse and Central India Horse all went into the Indian Army; all good regiments, but Poona Horse is special, the Fakhr-e-Hind, the Pride of India, with a bright and shining battle record. All Indian Army cavalry regiments are mechanised today, with the sole exception of the 61st Cavalry, that remains a horse-mounted formation, along with the President's Bodyguard (the PBG not actually within the Indian Army).
Wonderful upload, Clayton Roberts ,sir. I was lucky to meet a member of the Calcutta light horse major ' yogi' crossley who took part in operation creek.the SOE india operation to destroy the German spy ship ehrenfels on 9mar1943 docked at mormugao.. Portuguese Goa . Later it was made into a film' the sea wolves' based on the 1978 book ' boarding party' by james leasor..... the Calcutta light horse was a cavalry reserve TA unit of the British Indian army...you may like to add this to your wonderful vid. Love the martial music . Pl make a vid on military music....
The Calcutta Light Horse was part of the Auxiliary Force (India) - the AFI - which was disbanded on August 14th. 1947. It was deemed a 'British' service while not beinga part of either the British or Indian regular armies. It is not to be confused with any post-Indepence Territorial Army unit or any of British-India's irregular cavalry regiments.
My grandfather served with the 27th Light Cavalry regiment. They even went to France in WW1 and later to Palestine. Most of the men were left without any future as the Army became mechanised.
I have subscribed and put up relevant, factual comments 3 times now in last 3 days (backed up by sources/references/citation) - all disappeared/removed?. Why?
