I thought it was crazy the the sounds were of applying the brakes after the train derailed. Where did the air come from to apply the brakes when the trains air would be completely gone.
There's only on scenario in which this will happen in real life...when all the air is bled from the trainline. This is done using the bleed off valve. Normally, when the air is released from a set of cars, the brakes apply. But when there is no more are to equalize the pressure the brakes release.
I feel like you got the idea of 2 run away box cars from that runaway boxcar film here on youtube from like the 1990s or early 2000s you know that one where the cop had two save to people stuck to the side of some runway boxcars before falling over the side off a bridge

I know what would make that video even better if the boxcar had the door slid wide open and about let's say three hobos riding that box car singing Rodger Miller's song called King of the Road!
