a very easy way to fix it - the higher you jump, the more you have to dig down so you can land safely when you do jump. but only dig in a way that you ca get out of the hole by jumping as less as possible

Well it looks like and they think the fall damage is weird but how high you jump is how much it is is until you start taking fall damage so they don't need to put blocks over their heads and worrying :/
