I know that this video isn't aimed at the older car guys, but a lot of us have an appreciation for modern machinery and their builders. The video is well done and Helen is a great place. My only gripe is that I think it would have been better without music.

Should we shut down Mardis Gras, Superbowl, Daytona 500, Bike Week, Sturgis, Cancel Spring break, and All sports playoffs? Every crowd has it's bad apples, but people comparing SOWO to Baltimore? Seriously, come on... That's just ignorant. I filmed the ENTIRE event, and didn't once witness any destruction and mayhem that could even be remotely put in the same category as Baltimore. There were a lot of burnouts, nothing different than any Street Car National I attended as a kid, or similar event. Why didn't someone just give them a place to have an "Official" burnout competition? The spot where the old amusement park was would have been great for that. Out of town, Controlled, and Quiet near Forestland. That would have spread the crowd out more evenly as well. Once we post our official video, you will see SOWO as we experienced it. Then make your Judgement on the event... Here's My 2 Cents On People Complaining About What We Covered. It Was A Picture I Posted On Intagram and tagged the White County Sheriff's In, Of Them Working the Event... The behavior in the picture is the cops working to keep the town safe. We're you there? I was. Every minute... I captured the experience... that's what I do. I didn't witness anything I haven't seen tenfold in Daytona for Nascar races, at Sturgis with bikers, street car natinals, mardis gras, bike week, sports tournaments, etc. Minus the gunshots and violent crimes... and now the city is quiet and cleaned up, for the most part from what we've seen and heard. Check our cameras... don't speak on what you didn't personally witness... a crowd of great people who love their cars, ftiends, and having a good time spending their hard earned money to party for the weekend. And every crowd has a few bad apples... all the way up the ladder. I will share the event as I experienced it anyway. We've gotten more support from the SOWO VISITORS (@matthewbounds... hint. hint.) Than from the businesses, and events we work round the clock to promote, film, photograph, share, and list on our website and numerous social media channels. Once in a while we get a random email like from the #ABLH on how we didn't add "Boser" to the "jeepfest" event. No Thank you, No Appreciation... Do you think the growth the last couple years in Helen, is because the CVB works round the clock? Check their Social Media. And then ask the thousands of people we help every year with their vacation planning, and finding a hotel, and directions, etc.... Where the CVB is when they need help... And they get paid for their jobs... We volunteer our time and services, and don't make a single DIME from Visit Helen. We pay all expenses out of our pocket, which isn't easy with 9 children. we do it because we have the skills, we love to help small businesses, and we love where we live... If you can, why not? So, I apologize for the rant, but a thank you would be nice... instead of complaining about a picture I posted and tagged for the sheriff's office... what behavior is so bad in this picture? Mike Perry I know you feel like it is the residents of Helen, but I can assure you it is not, for the most part. The people that started the "ban" don't even live in Helen, they live outside of Helen, some a 20 minute drive outside. We know the sowo guests were not what they say. Sure, there were a few asses, but there are at any event, plenty during our Oktoberfest every year, but we believe the Helen Police Dept. did a great job and next year will be even better. We hope to help with better organizing ideas and hope the city & organizers will listen. A lot of the trouble was caused by local kids, but while the police are busy things like this will happen, guarantee they will have a better handle on things next time when it comes to the local kids.
Visit Helen Let me ask you this, since you seem to be somewhat associated with the Alpine Helen / White County Convention & Visitors Bureau: Why do you feel that people who live outside Helen are not entitled to have a say in this? In my case, I was trying to drive from Hiawassee to Athens and as I was passing through Helen was mobbed by drunken thugs. I called a friend of mine who was ahead of me who advised that I should turn around at all costs, that the drunks were throwing beer bottles at anyone who did not perform a burnout. At that point, the northbound lane was clogged with drunken pedestrians and both my forward and rearward progress were impeded. Luckily I was able to somehow get turned around without running over a pedestrian or having my car pelted with beer bottles, but I was genuinely concerned for my safety. This is all on a state Highway and the main thoroughfare through town at 1130pm. Since this event is sanctioned by the City of Helen, and similar instances have occurred in prior years (although apparently not to this extent) why was there no detour or warning to "regular" traffic in place? Helen does not have the infrastructure nor the manpower to deal with an event of this magnitude. I either personally saw, or have seen photographic or video evidence of the following blatant violations of several laws: public intoxication, public nudity, assualt, sexual assault, brandishment of firearms, reckless driving, open container, vandalism, underage consumption of alcohol, terroristic threats, innumerable traffic violations...and I'm sure there were more. It is only a matter of time before someone is raped or killed at this event. How can the City of Helen in good conscience not only condone this, but encourage it? I'm all for the VAG folks having an annual gathering and beating their brains out, etc. if that's what they want to do, but do it somewhere controlled, where the general public is not placed in jeopardy. Why not rent Road Atlanta? They get to race all they want, do burnouts until they can't breathe from nitrous fumes, camp out, etc. Plenty of room to contain all the debauchery. City council meets Tuesday at 3pm . See you there.
Ok silly local people. You live in a tourist town. You can't tell me that Octoberfest doesn't bring in some loud drunks. When you move to a tourist town that sells lots and lots of beer and liquor, it will get loud. There are tons of festivals and gatherings there. You knew what you were getting into when you moved there. If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen. Plus, I'd bet money that any crime was by the locals. These kids spend big bucks fixing up those cars. They are college kids on break. They tow their cars down from all over the country. They don't need to steal anything. As a local this was the peak of helen. Helen is obviously going downhill and on its way out. It's dying. Also as a local please tell the people that own hayloft to sell it to somebody who can actually keep it open.
I'm reading a lot of "I heard" on here and that's really not a valid source for your opinion. I was there and I can seriously say that aside from what happens after 10pm, it was the most well behaved and friendly meet of this size I have ever been to and I had more fun that I have had in years. It's funny because my opinion is a popular one amongst all of the people that did attend SOWO, yet every single person who did not attend has asked me "WOW HOW MANY PEOPLE DID YOU SEE PULL GUNS OUT THERE WAS IT LIKE PROJECT X, THATS WHAT I SAW ON INSTAGRAM" if you didn't see it with you own two eyes please don't spread it, I know for a fact majority of the people doing burnouts Saturday night when the Police allowed us 30mins-1hr for burnouts, were locals in pickups roasting mud tires. Also all of the pictures you've seen with a massive crowd and huge amounts of smoke being compared to Baltimore, THAT WAS ALL DURING THE POLICE ALLOTTED TIME FOR BURNOUTS WHEN THEY CLOSED THE ROAD. So please consider where you've heard all of these absurd claims from and do not spread these yourself as I would hate to lose our truly amazing event in such a beautiful place.

auRa 2k06 I was there. I was in fear for my safety. The road was closed but not signed as such, allowing me to innocently enter the city. Had the road actually been closed via signage and/or detour, I never would have entered Helen and not felt compelled to attend the city council meeting in support of disapproving a permit for next year's event. In addition, I have seen video and photographic evidence of illegal activities enough to suggest this gathering has no place in a civil society. I'm sure there was much camaraderie early in the day and many people were having a well-mannered good time, but by 11:30pm when I was there, it was totally out of hand.
You are going to judge an entire event of 23,000 plus people that lasted 3 days, by what you saw "driving through"? No place in a civil society? You didn't even attend the event. You are correct in the fact there were no posted signs, which I have addressed in our upcoming video, but is that the fault of the attendees? I read both police reports... Mostly warnings, tickets, and misdemeanors, and only 2 felony arrests. That meeting was a joke. The commissioners flat out lied to the people, and made them believe the State Troopers had run for their lives... Which was not the case. If it was so out of hand, why did they deny additional officers? All of the problems from this event were addressed last year, and should have been planned for.... According to a commisioner, the only problem with SOWO was figuring out "how to dice up the dollars." Visit Helen No, but based on my personal observation, written and spoken accounts of others, and video and photographic evidence I have seen, yes. It was apalling. Not only did the GSP and City of Helen indicate that Helen is not capable of handling crowds this size, what about the infrastructure? The city is permitted for 500k gallons of sewage per day, but during SoWo, they hit 480k gallons, which leaves little headroom for growth...and all indications are that any event next year would be even larger than the previous event. So, no, Helen can't handle it. Regarding the writeup of the commission's meeting from two years ago you referenced, I had seen that, and one of the more telling aspects of that meeting is that SoWo refused to pony up any cash to take care of additional city costs. "Cooley took issue with SoWo ponying up any more money to the city to hold the event, pointing to the benefits of the 13,000 people on the city's economy." SoWo's opinion is that of ramming it down the throats of Helen, whether they like it or not. Helen took it in 2014 and 2015, but have, so far, voted not to do so going forward - a smart decision. It's not *just* the economy!!

I've never been a fan of stanced cars BUT because it was something different I basically ignored that side of car culture putting it down to personal preference and folks wanting to do things differently, which I can respect on some level. Now with that said when you watch footage of these recent events and festivals it's quite apparent that it's become quite the opposite. What you have are a bunch of hipsters/drunk reprobates, all dressed the same, in the same VW/Audi/other VAG products doing the same thing to their cars, i.e. spending more on the suspension and wheels than their car is worth all in the name of some misplaced idea that more camber, more low, more wheel is better. The result of course is turning a car into a severely impractical, possibly even dangerous mess which is supposedly now somehow worthy of respect.

The only people who hate on stanced cars either have no idea how to fit wheels properly, can't drive low cars, can't afford it, have zero idea on how much fun and laid back the people and environment is, or are just pathetic "enthusiasts" that hate on something they don't think is appealing. Since this event is sanctioned by the City of Helen, and similar instances have occurred in prior years (although apparently not to this extent) why was there no detour or warning to "regular" traffic in place? Helen does not have the infrastructure nor the manpower to deal with an event of this magnitude.
I either personally saw, or have seen photographic or video evidence of the following blatant violations of several laws: public intoxication, public nudity, assualt, sexual assault, brandishment of firearms, reckless driving, open container, vandalism, underage consumption of alcohol, terroristic threats, innumerable traffic violations...and I'm sure there were more. It is only a matter of time before someone is raped or killed at this event. How can the City of Helen in good conscience not only condone this, but encourage it?
I'm all for the VAG folks having an annual gathering and beating their brains out, etc. if that's what they want to do, but do it somewhere controlled, where the general public is not placed in jeopardy. Why not rent Road Atlanta? They get to race all they want, do burnouts until they can't breathe from nitrous fumes, camp out, etc. Plenty of room to contain all the debauchery.

Ok silly local people. You live in a tourist town. You can't tell me that Octoberfest doesn't bring in some loud drunks. When you move to a tourist town that sells lots and lots of beer and liquor, it will get loud. There are tons of festivals and gatherings there. You knew what you were getting into when you moved there. If you don't like the heat, get out of the kitchen. Plus, I'd bet money that any crime was by the locals. These kids spend big bucks fixing up those cars. They are college kids on break. They tow their cars down from all over the country. They don't need to steal anything. As a local this was the peak of helen. Helen is obviously going downhill and on its way out. It's dying. Also as a local please tell the people that own hayloft to sell it to somebody who can actually keep it open.
I'm reading a lot of "I heard" on here and that's really not a valid source for your opinion. I was there and I can seriously say that aside from what happens after 10pm, it was the most well behaved and friendly meet of this size I have ever been to and I had more fun that I have had in years. It's funny because my opinion is a popular one amongst all of the people that did attend SOWO, yet every single person who did not attend has asked me "WOW HOW MANY PEOPLE DID YOU SEE PULL GUNS OUT THERE WAS IT LIKE PROJECT X, THATS WHAT I SAW ON INSTAGRAM" if you didn't see it with you own two eyes please don't spread it, I know for a fact majority of the people doing burnouts Saturday night when the Police allowed us 30mins-1hr for burnouts, were locals in pickups roasting mud tires. Also all of the pictures you've seen with a massive crowd and huge amounts of smoke being compared to Baltimore, THAT WAS ALL DURING THE POLICE ALLOTTED TIME FOR BURNOUTS WHEN THEY CLOSED THE ROAD. So please consider where you've heard all of these absurd claims from and do not spread these yourself as I would hate to lose our truly amazing event in such a beautiful place.

auRa 2k06 I was there. I was in fear for my safety. The road was closed but not signed as such, allowing me to innocently enter the city. Had the road actually been closed via signage and/or detour, I never would have entered Helen and not felt compelled to attend the city council meeting in support of disapproving a permit for next year's event. In addition, I have seen video and photographic evidence of illegal activities enough to suggest this gathering has no place in a civil society. I'm sure there was much camaraderie early in the day and many people were having a well-mannered good time, but by 11:30pm when I was there, it was totally out of hand.
You are going to judge an entire event of 23,000 plus people that lasted 3 days, by what you saw "driving through"? No place in a civil society? You didn't even attend the event. You are correct in the fact there were no posted signs, which I have addressed in our upcoming video, but is that the fault of the attendees? I read both police reports... Mostly warnings, tickets, and misdemeanors, and only 2 felony arrests. That meeting was a joke. The commissioners flat out lied to the people, and made them believe the State Troopers had run for their lives... Which was not the case. If it was so out of hand, why did they deny additional officers?
All of the problems from this event were addressed last year, and should have been planned for.... According to a commisioner, the only problem with SOWO was figuring out "how to dice up the dollars." Here's a little DejaVu from last year....

Visit Helen No, but based on my personal observation, written and spoken accounts of others, and video and photographic evidence I have seen, yes. It was apalling.
Not only did the GSP and City of Helen indicate that Helen is not capable of handling crowds this size, what about the infrastructure? The city is permitted for 500k gallons of sewage per day, but during SoWo, they hit 480k gallons, which leaves little headroom for growth...and all indications are that any event next year would be even larger than the previous event.
So, no, Helen can't handle it.
Regarding the writeup of the commission's meeting from two years ago you referenced, I had seen that, and one of the more telling aspects of that meeting is that SoWo refused to pony up any cash to take care of additional city costs. "Cooley took issue with SoWo ponying up any more money to the city to hold the event, pointing to the benefits of the 13,000 people on the city's economy." SoWo's opinion is that of ramming it down the throats of Helen, whether they like it or not. Helen took it in 2014 and 2015, but have, so far, voted not to do so going forward - a smart decision.

I've never been a fan of stanced cars BUT because it was something different I basically ignored that side of car culture putting it down to personal preference and folks wanting to do things differently, which I can respect on some level.
Now with that said when you watch footage of these recent events and festivals it's quite apparent that it's become quite the opposite. What you have are a bunch of hipsters/drunk reprobates, all dressed the same, in the same VW/Audi/other VAG products doing the same thing to their cars, i.e. spending more on the suspension and wheels than their car is worth all in the name of some misplaced idea that more camber, more low, more wheel is better. The result of course is turning a car into a severely impractical, possibly even dangerous mess which is supposedly now somehow worthy of respect.

The only people who hate on stanced cars either have no idea how to fit wheels properly, can't drive low cars, can't afford it, have zero idea on how much fun and laid back the people and environment is, or are just pathetic "enthusiasts" that hate on something they don't think is appealing. AustinF12 I had no sleep and got 1200 Images and 45gb of video edited for this, before heading out to shoot on Friday.... Didn't have time to engineer the audio. Had this out within 9 hours of shooting. I filmed the entire event, and will be Making an "OFFICIAL" video. So, to answer your question. Time restraints... That's the only reason. To Be First.
