I live in Vancouver Canada I used to fish a lot when I was in my teens before I moved to Canada, watching your videos has brought back great memories and shown me how fishing techniques and equipment have changed since then, videos are very informative and well produced please keep up the good work
What a great video Bill ,back to basics catching fish on a small tributery, it's great to watch, rather than fishing on a lake full of kamikaze carp , Brilliant! Keep them coming.
brian wheater . Thanks for the nice comment Brian . I prefer more intimate venues and would hate to fish commercial high stock venues all the time but some people love them. One man’s meat is another man’s poison.
Apologies for Bill :) ...I was thinking of a dear friend (Fred) while watching your great video with the whip who enjoyed keeping things simple but very effective.
Great stuff Bill. Love these videos and although I'm not a complete beginner, I haven't been fishing very long and you have inspired me to buy a whip. You have a great delivery, your own style (a good thing) and I like that it's all back-to-basics advice rather than the latest stiff-hinged rig (or whatever) for 40lb carp which TH-cam is full of. Best wishes to you and your wife, I kinda hope I still have your attitude and patience when I get to the stage of life you're at, and I'm pretty sure I will ALWAYS enjoy catching small roach from rivers no matter what. Stay well, keep posting videos, and if you can find time maybe do some indoor ones (Winter coming now) on rigs, how to tie them, perhaps how to look after your fishing tackle looking ahead to the spring, just stuff you can do when you can't get out on the bank. Anyway - all the best, I am really enjoying your channel.
Hi Andy, thanks for your kind comments. I’m glad you are enjoying these videos and I hope you are picking up tips from them! I hope you have watched the other whip videos! Wait for the one on LEDGERING with the whip!! I will finish the whip series with the long whip which hopefully wil not be to long
Hi Marc, well the whip will certainly be good with the flick tip for both rivers and stillwaters. Have a look at my video for whip fishing on a lake. Lodges, are they the name given to mill ponds in the north east? I’m not keen on elasticated whips as a whip should be fished to hand, if you put elastic in, it can lead to problems netting bigger fish. Netherless many are happy Fishing with them. But I think a take apart pole is needed when using elastic. Enjoy your fishing tight lines.
excellent, i know you are aiming these videos at begginers (i could have used them last year) but a begginer-medium link ledger for chub would be a great video. thanks for taking the time to make these, i know its not easy to make lots of videos
BUSHCRAPPING . Hi glad the video helps. A video on ledgering is in the pipeline. Please be patient it’s coming, several of them and one will be on the link ledger.
Hiya bill, have you ever tried mole hill soil? It's just like groundbait already put through a riddle it's really fine, my uncle told me about it yrs ago and thought nothing of it, anyway i fancied fishing one night so I checked to see if i had any groundbait and I had none, so I thought what my uncle had said and thought f£@k it I'll give it a go so went down my locle Stillwater to try it out, my old uncle was very very right on it working, I balled it in say every 15mins just a golf ball sized, I had monster roach, rud, bream, crucian it turned into an epic few hrs, I didn't take the keepnet because I thought it wouldn't work, how wrong was i bill, guys lol give it a go guys honestly it was an awesome warm summer night, cheers bill, guys
Beginner fisher here, well I went when I was a young lad (21 years ago) just bought a Drennan float rod,as reccomended by your video. I've also bought a Middy bagging machine whip, which has a flick tip and two elasticated tips. Will this be OK for river fishing? Or use it on my local lodge.
Simple pleasurable action packed fishing catching fish almost constantly at a chuck you cant fault it, another great video Bill. I'm just wondering what do you use to mark the dead depth with on your whip?
I got into whip fishing last year with an elasticatedv5metre never had so much fun fishing & learnt so much watching you whip fishing well done keep up the good work
Catching any fish with a whip is fun thats whats so good about it. If you catch tiny silvers on a 10 foot feeder rod on the bomb using 8lb mainline you barely feel the fish at all. I was catching them last week on the bomb and every time i struck after getting a bite i thought i missed it and once my rig got close to the bank i'd see the fish! with a whip you feel any fish that you hook, looking forward to having a days' fishing on the whip at a lake that holds just small silvers near me, only £3 day ticket but that will have to be in the summer.
Hi bill passed from pancreatic cancer 6 months ago a sad loss look at bills last video he did a last fishing video with his son it broke my heart god bless
Here in the States many people just use a very small red and white Styrofoam float and the hook. That's it. And bigger diameter line too. But then there is Mick Thill.....😁
Andy Metternich . Hi well I hope I can steer you to catch more fish. You don’t need loads of expensive gear that whip was under £10 its how you present your bait and feed. Tight Lines
You talk about early man fishing.... my wife is from Guyana, your former colony. They fish with homemade bamboo poles the size of your whip there or even shorter in streams just like this one(or with handlines in bigger water or salt). Nowadays the fishing line comes from the store, but when she was a child, they made it at home. Three sisters held a string each tightly and mom rolled it into the final product. If one of them didn't pay attention and let their end go slack, they would get a good slap across the head....😁
Andy Metternich. Hi Andy I guess that a lot of people forget that simple fishing with a stick or cane with a piece of line tied to the end is still in widespread use around the world today for subsistence fishing! My wife’s family came from St Lucia and before we both became to ill we had a holiday in the Caribbean and it was an eye opener for me to see people fishing with hand lines and bamboo canes to catch food. No money or supermarkets in some of the poorer islands! When I started fishing at the age of four I made a rod from a bamboo cane with a piece of stick for a float, a length of cotton for line and a hook ‘borrowed’ from my ten year old brother, no money when I was small. I went fishing in small farm ponds and managed a few small fish and became hooked for life! I intend to do a video on this at a later date just to show people how it used to be. Tight Lines.
Easy Fishing I was a tiny bit better off than you because my Grandfather bought me a bamboo cane pole about the length of that whip, fishing line and a pack of tiny hooks along with corn of some sort in a tiny jar for bait. That's it, no float or anything else. I dont know if he was trying to discourage me or what? When I went fishing it was storming, the water was gray green and extremely choppy and I didn't even catch a cold, much less a fish. But I was hooked....😁👍👍
Andy Metternich hi there, well you obviously liked this video and I must admit it is one of my favourites. Not because I caught a lot of fish or any big fish, but I think it shows the pleasure you can get from simple tactics and tackle with a little bait. My health is still deteriorating unfortunately as is my wife’s which is putting a lot of strain on our marriage but we keep going, thanks for asking. I hope you and your family are keeping well Tight Lines

Hi Bill great relaxing watching you fish! How do you find all these places ? How do you know they contain any fish 🐼

Marc Gardner old thread. But, i have same whip as you and yes, can be used on rivers

cns180784 Hi I use two methods to mark the depth either Tippex or a white China graph pencil both are easily removed. Tight Lines
I got into whip fishing last year with an elasticatedv5metre never had so much fun fishing & learnt so much watching you whip fishing well done keep up the good work
Pete Stabler. Hi glad you are enjoying your fishing with a whip. It can be such an effective method. Hope you are enjoying my videos. Tight Lines

Easy Fishing yes sir. Funny thing is that it is actually my go to method if I need to "produce " for some reason(like hungry relatives)😁👍👍
Sorry to hear Micky Thill passed away a few months ago.

Sam Haydon . Hi glad you enjoyed the video. Check out my White Acres holiday videos for some tips and hints. Enjoy your holiday

Watched this video for the umpteenth time. How are you holding up? How is the wife? You still fishing? I remember you didn't feel too well.
