Easy resealing large old fish tank using Liquid Rubber (Flex Seal) - Better than Silicone?

In this video, I used Flex Seal liquid rubber to reseal a large old fish tank I bought from FaceBook Market. I first fixed the broken center brace of the tank using a bar of Aluminum Extrusion. To reseal the tank:
- I removed the old Silicone
- Clean the seams with Acetone
- Using masking tape for vertical seams
- Paint on liquid rubber 2 times (2 coatings)
Even though the tank didn't leak, I cannot confirm that liquid rubber works better than Silicone. Only time will answer how long it will hold up the water. I will update regularly the state of the tank with fish inside.

Yeah, it has been holding up nicely. I have set up the tank for goldfish and they have been in there for more than a month now without any problem. I wish I did it in clear flex seal.

@@dasledogg64 Please do and show me how it looks like. I'm planning on getting an even bigger old tank (maybe 120 gallon or up). They are cheap if they have leaks, some are even free. If the clear looks much better, I'll invest in one of those cans, lol!!!

Is Flex Seal Aerosol Liquid Rubber Sealant Coating, aquarium safe? I'm assuming so but please someone verify my thoughts and research before buying a can. It's actually being used in my terrarium with a Madagascar Hisser.
I see this video is a year old. How's it holding up? I was thinking of using some for a project for my turtles, but still weary if it's safe for the long run. Are the fish good, and has there been any flaking?
My tank is still up with water almost too the top most of the time. Gold fish and other fish (I have catfish, dojo loach, pleco) are big and still healthy. But I'm not sure about turtle, do they scratch the edge when swimming around? They might scratch off the rubber seal. The silicone seal is thicker, might be more suitable for turtle.
I have a 75 gallon that just sprung a leak n now I'm nervous to fill it up lol. My poor fin babies are living in a tote for the night

No, it doesn't harm the fish. But it is not as durable as silicone. I can see some of the edges peeling off with algae grow in between now after year and a half in the water
perfect video...needed to fix a crac in a 180 gal internal overflow and i have slapped glass and silicone on it and just wanted to go the extra mile by adding flex seal but was not sure of how it will hold....your video gives me confidence and i am getting a couple of black liquid flex seal in the AM
It surely can seal the crack, but I have to admit that flexseal is not as durable as silicone. After more than 2 years, I saw the rubber peeling off at a few places. In the end, I switched to silicone and feel a lot safer.

Any update on how the tank is holding up?
I still have my goldfish in that tank but I can see that the edges of the rubber paint getting detached from the glass at some places (algae grow under the paint. No leak for now but not sure for how much longer it can hold water.
Hey so almost 2 years later hows it holding up?
It haven't leaked yet but some edges started to peel off and get algae underneath. Silicone caulk is still the way to go I guess
@minhsmancave9448 I just did my first coat with Flex Seal doing my 2nd tmrw or Thursday than water test was a free 125 gallon but leaked Like crazy so I guess will see
I resealed my 110 gallon using silicon instead. Took more time, but it was a peace of mind.
@minhsmancave9448 so to keep the bottom from leaking or peeling I Sealing the entire bottom not just the edges but the edges had a 1st coat first

I have fish in there for 8 months now and all good, no leak yet and fish are healthy. No problem. I have been busy with business so haven't much time for video updates yet. But will be back in a few months.
Was this fish safe?
Yes, it's not toxic once fully cured. My fish are doing fine in there since almost a year now
