Chives are my favorite vegetable. They can be used to make delicious dishes like chive and egg stir-fry, chive dumplings, and dumpling fillings. Chives are perennial green vegetables, and after planting, they only require watering, fertilizing, and weeding. After about three years, you can dig them up with the roots intact, trim the top chives, keep the root stems, remove the whiskers, and then you can replant them in a flowerpot or garden bed and water them thoroughly. They will grow big enough to be harvested after about a month, and they can be divided and replanted every 3 to 4 years. They are not easily affected by pests and diseases. With just one planting, you can enjoy this delicious ingredient year-round.

Hi Alex Lee, Hope you can answer a question. For the past few years, I have found Chinese chives bought in store, planted myself, and playted by my friends, all have lost its garlic flavor, like eating grass. A few years ago, when we had garlc pork fillings for dumplings in the fridge the whole fridge smelled like garlic, but no more. Do you know why?

Hi Steve: I am not sure what chives you bought. 韮菜(Chinese chives )and Garlic chives are different in Chinese name. Garlic chives have strong garlic smell and Chinese chives is less smell. They both used to fill for dumplings but Chinese chives used a lot and common , Garlic chives used as spices and if you buy fresh one it has less smell too, strong garlic smell comes from its cloves.
