Sanskrit has nothing to do with religion or thought it is a language that develops the mind and the hymns stated were a way to create a oneness with yourself. The tones that one recites has an effect on the mind and body. Many people in ancient times were able to realise reality and understanding of life through this. The idea of Hinduism and the way we see it know was a new concept of what the Indians developed post British rule as with caste. Caste was a creation of British to create a divining culture. Indians in ancient times saw Verna, the perfect society this was needed to represent this, but all man was equal, and all were important to create the perfect society. This was re- educated by the British to create the division we have now. Sanskrit is not from Indo European decent it was developed and created in India, as no other country has any contextual history of this language. The British never wanted us to be known as as a civilised culture, so they miscalculated the people. Even our history was re-written.
Dr Sierra, I appreciate your trick of not using the word "hindu" even once in the first half sn hour of the lecture. Is it a form of secularising sanskrit and taking it away from hinduism or you are not allowed to speak about religions in the classroom ?
Brahman is not necessarily a priest, Brahmin or Brahmanan is a class in the Indian class system. Kshatriyas is the class of the rulers or kings and then its Brahmins - The learned class
Nice to see the importance given to Sanskrit by Barcelona University...

Why is that the students need to learn all hard concepts like avatar, samsara, atman, thrimurthy etc in sanskrit introduction class ?
