I think it rated accurately. It's good but basically DePalma's self-parody and nowhere near as great as Sisters, Carrie, Dressed To Kill, etc. It's a solid film though.
My parents were seldom at home when I was a kid, so I babysat my siblings, and my babysitter was the TV. My parents bought home these bags and boxes of VHS tapes, old tapes they got from friends and let me put in just whatever while they were away. I saw The Omen, Satyricon, Olivier's Richard III, The Mission, The Great Race, you name it. One of the tapes had Body Double, and man, watching the peeping Tom scene just blew my 9 year old mind away. This track makes it all come back, sensual and alluring.
The name of this song, "Telescope" is just simply perfect. When he's lead over to that telescope by his buddy...Here have a look...And he bends over and looks through that eyepiece for the first time. And this music starts...it's almost like a trance.
Beautiful haunting music of an excellent movie of one of the greatest directors of our time. I am so glad I was young in the 80's.... and could "nurture" my brain with such great movies of Brian de Palma, John Carpenter, Martin Scorsese, Michael Mann ....
I admire the hell out of Brian De Palma. finally got around to watching this excellent film this morning. this song stood out to me. so beautiful but haunting
This movie (and this song) is pure magic. It takes “Vertigo” and “Rear Window” to a whole other level. So 80s, so magical, so good. Pure genius. Good on ya, Brian De Palma. I like to watch ;-)
I personally wouldn't go so far as the film was great although I did enjoy it. It didn't deserve the critical dismissal received upon its initial release although over the years it has gained some recognition.I do agree though that this song is wonderful. It really did what it set out to do in that it aided having me become more emotionally sucked in to the movie. It perfectly captures Jake's (the main protagonist played by Craig Wasson) fascination and desire he has for his neighbour as he eventually begins to become obsessed with her.
Definitely. Brian DePalma is one of the few directors in the business who manages to convey his own personal tastes through the exemplification of his style alone. Like the late, great Tony Scott, he radiates a real exuberance, whereupon you can nearly always detect his handwork through his utilisation of camerawork and a nearly always universally approachable soundtrack.
I saw the movie again today, i didn't remember this music. I think it captures perfectly this flavour that was the eighties glamour, something raw and hard but with the delicate touch of a synth echoing voice.
Use to watch this late night on HBO or Showtime I was thirteen it was the eighties. We had great music, movies and television and they all mixed it together back then. Great times
The background music makes this film by the great Brian de Palma. Perfect ... Since I saw it after 84. I have it in my mind ... all ... its music is exceptional, when listening to it ... I feel a Joy and an immense pleasure in my being. If you listen to it with your eyes closed, ..... you will experience the same thing as I ... thanks to your composer Pino Donaggio!!
When that female vocal hits, I go from the 80s to the 60s. So haunting, so psychedelic. Music from movies like the "Midnight Cowboy" and "Breathless" are some of the greatest.
that melody.......every time i'm loosing my breath!every time i am high in the sky and i m holding the planet in my hands!every time i think something great is coming!pino donaggio thank you!

I think it is supposed to satirize that scene from Risky Business. Tom Cruise is as "in Love" w prostitute Rebecca Demornay as Craig Wasson was peeping on Melanie Griffith.
This song really does sum up the emotions of voyeurism quite well, the music is soft and pleasant like tender skin, drawing you in. The repetition creates a hypnotic state, a mood of intrigue, mischief, sensuality, and most of all the raw excitement and dizzying thrill of such an experience. Beautiful.
De Palma is the contemporary king of this genre of film making. Love his movies. And he came in the nick of time too, Hitchcock died at the end of the 70's and Brian De Palma filled the niche nicely. Pino Donaggio is well suited with his films too, I think Donaggio he did the score to five of his films, which isn't a bad run at all.
S Torres Thanks, S Torres, for the info. I did not know that he did the soundtrack to Passion. I, have yet to see that film, but look forward to seeing it soon.

Benyikoko Brian De Palma, the director of Carrie and Dressed To Kill and the modern master of suspense is inviting you to witness a seduction, a mystery and a murder.
Does anyone know if Pino Donaggio has ever been nominated for an Oscar? To me this, Dressed to Kill and Carrie are his best musical scores. They can be erotic, mysterious, terrifying, alluring, seductive, hypnotic and just brilliant! This particular one encompases all those qualities.

Brian De Palma is my favourite director, he and Pino Donaggio carried on what Alfred Hitchcock and Bernard Herrmann created.
Haunting ,mesmerizing, hypnotic. Song from a 1984 film that left long lasting impressions ♥
seductive, bold, sensual, and it has that spacey, ambient 80s synth riff as well. It's a beautiful composition.
You're not Wrong!!!
Don't know why this is so compelling . . . but it really is. I can't thing of anything else like it.
there is something elusive about this piece of music. It is hallucinatory, disorienting. and utterly seductive....
