    For me, this tempo is perfect! The articulation is not lost, since clearly the microphones were placed in the body of the church and you can hear everything! In any case, I'm sure M. Latry is well able to judge the effect of the acoustics on his tempo! His virtuosity is amazing!

  • @JoshuaSobel
    @JoshuaSobel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +87

    For those who say this is too fast, Latry is playing about q=126. Original tempo indicated is 120. As you can see, it is still clear thanks to his articulation. This is a more than reasonable performance.

      @dariogiorgiutti9418 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think you're right, and indeed by earing this performance it seems sparkles and flames are coming out from pipes (maybe it'd be better not, though... Ahah!). However I doubt that Guilmant would have played this fast.

      I'm learning this piece just now, and the tempo indication is 126. I think it is too fast AND it'd sound a hellova mess down in the aisle to a listener. I'd think the microphones were placed closer to the pipes, several on several different levels probably.

    Wow. This video should be a REFERENCE for how to capture and produce video of an organ performance. Outstanding lighting, cinematography, and direction-I feel like I'm there. As for the sound recording, the microphones were well placed and mixed to achieve brilliant sonic clarity and dynamic range, and it still sounds great on TH-cam where quality suffers from compression. Bravo. Thank you for sharing.

    Un jeu admirablement aisé et souple. Des sonorités impeccables. Guilmant est bien servi, avec naturel et une sorte de nonchalance pleine de charme, d'attention, de recueillement. L'esprit de cette pièce imaginative est rendu au mieux pour le plaisir de celui qui écoute... Très beau.

Sound, energy, vibration -- these are the transformative things that each and every person can partake in and be a part of. Marcel Dupre was a student of Alexandre Guilmant from his youth and the teacher took a particular interest in his development. I am curious as to whether Guilmant's Final from his Sonate Nr. 1 with its similar style and key inspired Dupre to transcribe J.S. Bach's Sinfonia to Cantata No. 29 which became a popular staple in the organ repertoire.

    French/British organs are the best... I love Cavaillé-Colls, Isnards and Harrison & Harrison's.

      @@bastouneuroatypicmusic6885 This is nonsens! Obviously you are not confident with organ building worldwide. Where are "the best" organs? France, England, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland .... who are you to answer that that clear? Maybe you like them best but you may be assured they are not worse or better than in the mentioned countries. A very good organ ist in St Eustache/ Paris. And it´s dutch build ( Van den Heuvel) hmmmm

      @@Barrawitzkaa Yes ! But obviously like you said, any pipe organ is "the better of the world" that just depend what is your favorite kind of pipe organs, personnaly, my favorites are pipe organs build from the 19th century to the 1920 years... symphonics and romantics ! Because i don't like so much old tone baroque style organs, its too old, too much european, too perticular and you can't play perfectly cinema music with (by example)...

      @@bastouneuroatypicmusic6885 Sure, I agree, but I´d like to point out that there are countries with a real dynamic organ historie, eg France, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium. And there a countries that do not offer that e.g. Spain or Italy. But you´ll find amazing romantic organs in Germany from the period you mentioned, too. And sureyl they are different from English or French ones - but not in their Quality.

    Unfortunately the choir organ, however, was completely destroyed.
