    The Diana 60 should be on your list. She is a beauty!

      I agree....but since the only comment they’ve given a “heart” to is the one about the boat with a tiller and stand up engine room, I think I know what they got. Too bad in my opinion

    • @geekdomo
      @geekdomo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garysouza2277 Yea she is probably top of their list right now. I dont think they have one picked yet? There is a bit of a delay so maybe they are already living on her :)

    Before I retired as a naval architect and marine engineer, people would ask me how I could keep my design practice open since hull shapes can be so similar. My reply always included an explanation of how everyone has a different idea of what the ideal boat is and that's why there are so many designers and variations you see at boat shows. Even then, boat designs intended for the masses are always a crap shoot, and never please everyone. That's where custom options come into play and re-designs during re-fits. Whenever someone would ask me what I do for a living, I would tell them I'm in the business of selling dreams! If you find a boat design with a size, hull shape, and general interior layout you find reasonable, you can always fine-tune the vessel to fit your specific needs. Of course, you can have just about anything and everything you want providing you have a very thick wallet! All the best in your search, and I'm looking forward to finding out what you decide on.

    The last boat ( Diana60) looks pretty well thought out even that you didnt show much of it. A positive: a narrow galley, big windows, dog house (HUGE!), cutter rig. The negative - is a skeg rudder but you can live with that, its a lot better then a long keel boat from the last video.

  • @dtonvista

    So far the Diana 60 would be the boat of choice, big boat, lots of work!

  • @garysouza2277
    @garysouza2277 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Keep looking. The Diana 60 is the closest to what you wanted in a cruising boat, but it is a very big boat, much bigger than what you said you wanted.You know what you want. Don’t settle or feel pressured....Everybody that’s pushing the one with a door to the engine room doesn’t understand living on a sailboat and cruising. Just because you can stand up in an engine room is not a reason to buy a sailboat that doesn’t fit the rest of your needs any more than picking the prettiest colored boat. How much time are you going to spend in an engine room? You need a boat that fits your live aboard/ cruising needs.

    The Diana 60 is the clear winner this week - general condition, quality of construction, cutter rig, furling main, doghouse, great internal layout, good galley, good value - use one of the rear cabins as a utility/storage/spare cabin. Lots of good points - I’ll take it! Though at 60’ it’s getting up there... Of course there’s no perfect boat. It’s just a case of where and on what you compromise and finding the right balance for you. Happy hunting.

I know I'm not you guys and it's not my money, but good grief that beautiful boat looks perfect for you guys, especially with the baby coming. Hello, go for the 60 footer aircraft carrier, it was a beautiful yacht, and you got so excited, your normally really chilled, so follow that passion and smiles I say, and what a man cave of an engine room! I hope you bought it, you will manage with some friends on board while Malin busy with Vera and settling in, then you will master it as a couple as times goes by!

    Hi Marlin and Johan, the Diana 60 is a fine yacht. Big aft deck and a salon with many windows to look outside. Good cockpit hardtop.
    The 57 feet ship from last week had a very small cockpit. And the deckhouse is to small and to slowly speed. You need much more fuel. Best regards Michael

    Congrats on your precious baby girl ! Both of you are experienced, competent sailors..so, imo, you can handle a bigger boat. Also.. with the new crew the extra space will be comfortable as you will probably be spending more time exploring and parenting between passages of any length. Great, funny episode btw ! Boat shopping...fun but extremely stressful.

    Yes the Diana 60 looks like a nice one! But so much boat to clean the bottom of, keep the inside clean, and to pay for when you go in to a marina with it. 21:15 Boy! You nailed it. With all these boats you've been looking at, it seems like there is a pattern of cabin space being somewhat an afterthought to the entire design. Even that one boat that the designer who built his own boat, seemed like there was no well made plans for the interior.

    I sailed on the hallberg rassy kismet in your video. We were delivering it from the Netherlands to Lefkada in Greece. There were a number of issues with her on the passage. Then when making our way towards the Gibraltar straits, we had a serious interaction with a pod of orcas and spent two hours with them bashing up against the rudder. The damage meant we had to leave the boat in Gibraltar. I flew back to the Uk and out to Greece to my own boat instead. I think you made the right choice.

    Congratulations again. Correct choice in my opinion for a real full time home. I also noticed this Diana in the listings, I like it, but lot's of narrow tunnels and can't touch the OVM, for spaciousness, livability, Film-ability, natural light with butterfly hatches for meters (important for your videos) and simple charm and old world high class. I hope to see you out there some day! I will recognize her from 2 miles.

    Two comments if I may. One, soon you will be sailing/traveling with three, safety should be a key consideration in layout. Two, before you write off the HR (aft cabin) I’d schedule a visit with the yard and discuss modification options to the aft cabin. HR is not far from you and would be worth a day trip to meet with them. I’ve personally seen what they can customize and they do outstanding work. Note: I am biased as I own an HR 48MK II but they are so great to work with - and their Parts Dept will have anything you ever need for your boat :-). Best of luck whichever direction you choose.

    I liked the Diana 60 but the only thing that would concern me is why the added fiberglass on the hull. Had it started cracking or had it been damaged? Something weird that someone would go to that much expense. Otherwise I would check and see if that make boat is weak structurally.

    That 60' seemed like a good opportunity to me at 199K. Even if you discovered that it truly was too big I believe you could put it on the market yourself for 249K and walk away with a profit and a much larger budget for the next boat. I absolutely loved that one.

    I think HR 49 is the best for cruising. The galley configuration is the best for cooking at sea. I own a Swan 48 and, if possible ( tax to bring her to BRASIL is 100% of the price), I change her for a HR 49. Don't think twice! Good winds.

    Great to watch your boat hunt. I see a lot of similarities in mine....like platform, material (no steel!!), sturdiness. I have some additions as: no teak-deck, a swing keel/very shallow and a DS or dog-house. Like allways with boats we will be finally caught by heart as nearly happened by you at the Olivier vd M. Good luck on your search.

    My two cents; I believe the cutter rig is optimal for a cruising boat along with a totally encapsulated full lead keel. However I have always admired the Hallberg Rassy and the 43 or 46 model with the hard dodger would probably be my choice. Of course these are quite expensive. There seems to be so many more interesting choices in Northern Europe than here in the USA. Best Wishes.

    Another great clutch of reviews guys, really appreciated that. I too was eyeing Kismet (the Halberg) and also didn't appreciate the rear cabin. She looks in much better condition than the website images suggest, so that was a surprise. The Diana certainly is a lovely boat and at a decent price point but she is big, isn't she? Tempting, very tempting! :)

    Boat shopping is fun. I'm only on the second boat so far, still watching, but it really looks like a weekender to me. No dodger, not a lot of thought to watch positions... I'm surprised you aren't seeing more pilothouses in that area of the world. In the Pacific NW (USA) seems like they're almost as common as traditional cockpit models.

    For me the Van Meer knocks spots off these 4 boats, I think she is beautiful, the layout is superb, more traditional and far more like a home than a boat. The walk in engine room is a great feature and a bit special with the enclosed cooling system and other equipment. Also the build of the hull which is very heavy duty, I think she would sail as if on rails in heavy weather. I would feel very safe crossing an ocean in the Van Meer. Its your decision though not mine and I wish you well with whatever you decide on, good luck.

    The Diana 60 looks great to me. It is big and heavy, but completely manageable, and fast. This is the first boat you have looked at that that I would have no problem sailing single handed with a wife and newborn. The HR looks ok too, but I am surprised at the marginal headroom. Is it just your style or are all the boats around designed for hard groundings?

    Koopmans are great looking boats and pretty quick for cruisers.

    The Diana 60 was amazing. Very well laid out. You could sail comfortably for 2 months straight if properly provisioned. And in my mind, that would be my #1 concern. How well can I provision the boat and for what time frame. The galley is the 2nd Consideration. Well designed. And like you stated, having the sink along the centerline. Long counter areas and retractable shelves that lock into place. Cabins seem to be separated well and you got the large master suite like you wanted. Would be worth a sea trial. Did it have a water maker? If so, what type. I guess the list could go on. But it is by far a well designed boat. And the insulation system would be ideal for cold water passages if you were to sail the NW Passage, or perhaps down through Antartica. I don't think you could go wrong with the Diana 60.
