Yes, this is what most people say. Also, I read that cops is a big problem there as they harass tourists or locals saying that they want to arrest them, because cops "saw how people were buying drugs".
@@robertwizzar4650 I think if you really want to go, you can go to the market along the Lagunilla street. But better don't go inside the Tepito. Maybe nothing will happen to you, but you will take chances. There is nothing to see there honestly, so why risk?
Incluso si vas a comprar cierres, la policía mexicana fingirá que estás comprando drogas e intentará arrestarte de todos modos, para que puedan pagarles dinero para que te dejen ir.
I guess if one doesn't know how the danger looks like, one can assume there is no danger. I can also imagine someone can say that ghettos looks like fun if they don't know where the danger might come from.
@@AndriiZhulidov what’s fun about the ghetto? I can just hear gunshots everyday I wouldn’t need to make a video questioning if my neighborhood is dangerous
You say that people were nice to you, you carried a camera (and you did not experience or see anything) - so I am not sure how you concluded that the area was dangerous. I assume you are relying on reputation and hearsay. However, I will still take your word for it. I would not go to Tepito unless I was with a local escort. Anyway, since I am not looking for guns or drugs, there is nothing there that I cannot find at any tiangui area in Mexico. My advice is to be very careful in any crowded environment. Pickpockets are my biggest concern (not just in Mexico). Don't carry valuables. I use a dummy wallet with a photocopy of my id, one credit card and just enough cash for the day - and I leave the wallet in a secure (button) pocket or a small bag on the front of my body. Phones should also be secure; never in an open pocket. One more tip for foreigners in Central Mexico - do not wear shorts (unless on your way to the gym or the park on Sunday). Shorts in the city scream recent arrival in Mexico who is likely to have unsecured valuables on his person. Thanks for another thoughtful video!
I read a lot about which streets I should not go to, all of my local friends suggested not to go, I read comments to other videos from Tepito about what happened to people there. There were circumstances, where people aggressively showed me not to film. I really researched it very well before going there, and just because someone gets lucky and nothing happens , doesn't mean everyone gets lucky. Also as I said in the video is about perception too. I've been to many sketchy places around the world and also grew up in a touch place, so yes, your advices are solid! I usually just feel when something doesn't feel right, lol. Thank you for watching and your comment!

LOL, We Mexicans from Central Mexico do wear shorts when is hot and not just to go the gym or to the park on Sundays and our shorts don't scream recent arrival to Mexico you Westerners have really weird stereotypes about us.
@ I think I can explain this one. If you google "are shorts illegal in Mexico", you will see a lot of articles that say about some ancient law and technically it is illegal to wear shorts in Mexico. Seriously, I know it sounds crazy, but Goggle it.

@@AndriiZhulidov I just did and I didn't find anything about the topic, please provide a link that says otherwise, maybe Google in Mexico has a different algorithm. I also use the one in Spanish and it only says about using shorts in schools, some schools forbid them entirely but this is because school policies. Maybe some places, some old and conservative places don't allow for people to wear shorts but that's not because the Mexican laws, just the traditional and autochthonous customs some people have here, I mean I can't enter a catholic church with shorts in a non-beach city. Just because we're not fond of shorts in big cities it doesn't mean is illegal, it's not like when my grandparents went for the first time to the US and they couldn't enter to any "white" restaurant at the moment, that's crazy law over there!
