I'm 62 and ELR is my all-time favorite sitcom...the writing, the characters, the acting. It dealt with family issues which everyone could relate to. I was really sad when they decided to call it quits although I obviously knew it was inevitable. Just a classic show.

She looked like his daughter not his sister in law and the scene where she is yelling at him for his sleeping with Stefania is too funny the way it's filmed from behind her when she is standing in front of him, cause it looks like a little girl having a tantrum with her dad or something haha. Soo funny. I am glad they didn't give her lifts to wear and let her be short. My parents are like that, my dad is 6 feet tall and my mom is 5/2 or maybe a little taller like the height of Marie. So it's funny to see them next to each other. She's always asking us to get stuff down from the cupboards for her. Me and my bro are 5/8 5/9 we take after our dad in that sense.

If you pay close attention to how Doris Roberts portrayed Marie in every aspect of the character, bringing her to life by emotions you’d realize this lady deserved every award she got under her coat! Way to go Doris.. gone But not forgotten. 💐
In the matter of fact she even helped me become a better mom. 😅 I KNOW it was a written script not a quotation by her but honest… she agreed to say it and that was enough a reminder for me.. always. It was when she said something regarding raising up kids and she mocked the couple who resided to reading how to off of a book they bought and so she advised saying “Lots of love and Lots of patience”. Enough said.

Doris was a such an aspirational actress and person, she played Marie with such conviction, a place of caring and honesty and outright hilarity in a role that could have easily come across as insensitive, overbearing and crass. You wanted her in every scene, she was such a great model for mothers of grown children unable to completely let go of what they felt was their calling and although she won awards for her portrayal, I don't think it is appreciated enough, along with Patricia Heaton's performances. The most honest sitcom of the last 20 years!

Same. I went with a boy to my senior prom. His mom wanted me to come spend the weekend with her at the farm while the men were away hunting or something. She said there was a house for sale in their subdivision and wanted us to buy it. She even had names picked out for our children. We only went to prom. I never looked back. 😆 A friend of mine is friends with him on Facebook. He got married last year and they're now expecting their first. Good luck!

While I agree with Debra to a degree.. after the "sit down" episode, it is no wonder Robert took so long to marry Amy. I am SO glad I didn't have a mother like Marie!! All she saw was what she got out of it.. which is how she always was.

Boy, they REALLY surrounded Ray Romano with some acting powerhouses to offset his acting inexperience. I mean EVERY other character...a BULLDOZER of acting prowess. I still say they should reboot this show but with Ray and Debra now being the pushy in-laws across the street. Patty Heaton does Rage so friggin’ well, and Ray is a very good goof.

@@tnp1047 Would be weird with Frank and Marie being dead, too. But it could all be incorporated into the premise. The Barones passed on. And one of the twins is off attending university. Or they can tell the truth and make that an episode. The point and the funny would be that we become our ancestors, despite our protestations. So Ray and Debra’s marriage dynamic becomes just like Frank and Marie’s was. And now Debra’s gonna meddle in HER son and wife’s lives.

I appreciate the way Robert stands up for himself, with both Debra and Marie, and isn't afraid to bite back, unlike pantywaist Ray, who decides to tuck tail and hide, he is so damn annoying, and a serious misrepresentation of a man, the only thing he even brings to the table in their marriage is a decent paycheck, nothing else!!

    • @randydelaney7053

I like to think of it like Roseanne, and the girls Darlene and Becky being married to the wrong brothers the whole show until the end when it was revealed that it was all fictional and it is revealed that the reverse is the truth.. I think Deb was better for Robert and well, not sure Ray deserved Amy even. But Robert and Debra would have been a better couple. There is chemistry there between them. He is what deb wants Ray to be, then again he is older too so mostly more mature.
