This is THE CARPENTERS singing over a TM "You Campaign" track. KFRC had several versions of this cut sung with popular recording artists. I have a copy of these renditions somewhere in my archives. Wild stuff! (Posted by an old jingle collector who works very closely with TM and many of the other jingle companies. So there!)
bloody hell, if they made singles like this then the post mid 70's slump would never had happened. She had such a raw pure voice, please release the unreleased tapes and put it on an album
So good the Carpenters. Love their harmonies. Both their voices blended perfectly to create their sound. Compare them to other vocal groups you don't get that same clear sound they produced. On top of his arrangements and her lead vocals
The bed and background singers are TM singers. We had the same jingle at 62 KGW /Portland. When artists would visit we would have them sing to the jingle. We had the Doobie Bros, (sounded great).. KC of The Sunshine Band fame couldn't carry a tune at all... Al Stewart was so wasted he couldn't even finish it. This is Karen Carpenter for sure.
Back in the day, KFRC was a big get for artists. If you could get on their air you could almost count on a hit song. Though this sounds a little later in their career, with the You II package, I think '76. Sometimes a station would do a little trade agreement, as in "we will play your song, if you do this jingle for us".
I had it on loop. Imagine hearing this as you're beginning your morning with the radio playing. People must have gone out their doors with a 'I can accomplish anything!' mindset after hearing this.
Nice, however I was hoping for a long acappella ending of "San Francisco". KFRC was a great pop station in the 60s. I enjoyed listening to it while I attended the California State Schhol for the Blind in Berkeley. They used to be AM only on 610 KHz. KFRC could be heard up and down the California Coast with a decent radio. At night, however, KFRC could not render the "COOL FACTOR" of XERB with their airing of the Wolfman Jack Show!
♫ ♬"....on KFRC....... SAN FRANCISCOooo!!!!!!"♫ ♬ =D I LOVED listening to that station back in the day! I know The Carpenters did a show, down in San Carlos (about a 45-minute drive, south of San Francisco)... long, LONG before I was born.... but does anyone know if Karen or Richard visited or did anything special in my hometown (S.F.)?
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this isn't the Carpenters. It's TM Productions of Dallas. Their "YOU" radio jingles, produced in LA, were aired on all the RKO General radio stations (and a few others) around the country, circa 1975 or '76. They were LA studio singers, not the Carpenters. (Posted by an old radio guy who lived in Dallas, worked with TM on some radio jingle packages, and was very familiar with this jingle package.)
I think it's wonderful. I bet hearing this in the morning getting ready for school or work gave a lot of people the shot in the arm they needed to get the energy flowing and start their day.
Very cool, classy and dynamic. Karen's voice was truly unique, versatile and outstanding.

O.K. You tell 'em. WOW! I didn't even knew that this existed. It's the BOMB!!!
KFRC, one of the best memories I had of the 70s and 80s.
Just heard this and wow! Brought back memories. Had to be in the 75-78 timeframe when we lived in the South Bay ...

This is so cool!
nice. i'll take thirty seconds of karen's voice over 10 seconds of the latest diva any day.
Nice, like it a lot!
Wow never heard this gem before!
There were many copiers and wannabees later, but this one IS The Carpenters.
The Carpenters singing over a TM jingle. Nice combo
Hey, I worked at 62/KGW. Did nights, '71-'72.
Love This! Wonder how many more Radio Jingles they did for stations?
...add about 3 minutes and this would have been a hit single.

@rbvo It's DEFINITELY Karen and Richard!
Very good

Well said!
That KFRC jingle sounded like RJ 100.3 Manila jingle.

I looked over their touring schedule and San Carlos was about as close as they came to the City. But they came to Circle Star twice iirc
They were at the S.F. Civic Auditorium on December 4, 1970 (and also sang "Merry Christmas, darling" there :-) )
but they forgot the end- San Franciscoooooo!~ :)
...alll that they had to offer/sigh
Wasn't this originated as a Jack FM jingle? Didn't know this one, nor as a KFRC jingle. Or is the Jack FM one the resing?
The TM "You" package is from the mid '70s. Jack FM was in more recent years.

If that's not Karen singing, then who is this dead ringer for her voice?
Uh yes the Carps it is. This was on "Close to You: Remembering the Carpenters" DVD that Richard himself was on.
No, definitely Karen
@@viralbuthow000 I have the album with the Carpenters outtakes etc. Definitely Carpenters in conjunction with TM backing tracks
Awful ! Just plain awful! The kind of jingle that drives listeners away.
