Hello from South Carolina! We woke up to Winter this morning (anything below 60°F). It's been a lovely 68° since noon and we have spent the day OUTSIDE! It is beautiful. Hope you have a lovely day as well.
For the ice cream,, it's definitely the recipe.. I think that it's too much sugar. Maybe if you had added half-ish of the caramel mixture to the base, churned, and then used the rest of the caramel for a swirl when it reaches soft serve texture and fold it in before putting in the freezer to set. Ever notice how the swirl in fudge, stawberry or caramel swirl ice cream never freezes and stays gooey?
Love keeping grapes in the freezer in the summer. Can be used as ice cubes or eaten and they feel weirdly sorbet-esque and bad for you... But they arent
My thoughts on the ice cream maker is that because it's all enclosed, not enough air is able to be whipped in. Ice cream needs air whipped into it so it becomes fluffy.
Another gadget for juicing citrus is a hand held citrus press. Kinda like a giant garlic press, works great and cleans fast. We also have an ice cream maker like that and have successfully made ice cream in it, but not custard based.
I heard about the lime juice on cut green grapes from you, Rachel. They are fantastic, even better when put back in the fridge to chill after adding the lime juice. I can't eat plain green grapes anymore!
The ice cream thing happens to me all the time. I find that I have to have the mixture nearly freezing as well for it to work with my cheap ice cream maker to be able to get it to work, I’m sure with the higher end that doesn’t happen as much.
There’s this little bedside shelf that attaches to your bedframe that I’m on the fence about but it looks really cool because I don’t have enough room around my bed for a night stand. Would love to see you try that out 👀
Roll the lemon on the counter to get the juices looser. Poke a hole in the lemon with a tooth pick or something similar and then squeeze the lemon. If you don't want to use the whole lemon, put the toothpick back in the hole and keep in the fridge.
You should try Redbubble for T-shirt’s men/woman/unisex etc (as well as other fab goodies, I’m obsessed with the throws!) and I can recommend some fab artists too if you would like (I’m sillybanana on there but there are so many fab ones as well as me 😜)
I have a Chef’n Buttercup Butter Maker on my Amazon list. How about making butter? Just don’t dump the buttermilk down the drain. Save it for baking or making pancakes.

My boyfriend and I got a similar ice cream maker a couple of months ago. It never was able to freeze the ice cream mixture as well. We ended up returning it twice (we bought a second one thinking that the first was defected). We believe it was because our freezer wasn't cold enough to freeze the tub fully.

I wonder if it was the recipe you choose because I make sweet cream ice cream in it all the time and it only takes about 20-30 minutes. I usually put it back in the freezer before I eat it so it can get more solidified.
I see the appeal of the grape slicer, but I think ultimately I agree with Chris on the unitaskers... Not a fan when it's really not that hard to use a knife.
I am interested in how well the play mat storage bags work off Amazon. They aren't a kitchen gadget, but people say it's good for kids toys like leggos. Who doesn't want to stop stepping on their kids toys and/or leggos? 😅😊
Home made ice cream never really works out in those churners. Not for me at least. So frustrating! The mat looks really cool though. I've tried, and like regular foam mats.

I don't know if you have ever tried The Wet Brush yet but it's AMAZING. I have very fine long hair and when it's wet it usually gets all tangled and knotted which hurts to brush through. This is the first brush I ever used that didn't hurt to comb out my wet hair. It was recommended by Jaclyn Hill a few months ago in one of her "have to have" videos and she was 100% right. LOVE IT. I don't think I have any kitchen gadgets that I feel are super special. I do have some silicone oven gloves that I got from Pampered Chef that are great. I would repurchase that in a heartbeat if something happened to them. I also like Pampered Chefs stone cookie sheet and pans. They seem to help distribute heat well on what ever you are cooking and you get a nice crust on the bottom. I used to make big cookies at Christmas time with the deep dish round one and frost it like a Christmas wreath. It was a hit at the party. It made great deep dish pizzas as well. I lost it when we moved though :(
That ice cream machine is probably no good. Try the full 24 hours since you have it, because some machines really do need the bowl to be that cold (or that´s what the ice cream recipe book that I have suggests). But it´s not the recipe that it´s wrong. I´ve made custard based ice creams a few times and it turns very easily.

Doesnt salt lowers freezing point of like water, other liquids? And device not powerful enough.
