Have a great day everyone!
Flash Gordon maine!🤘
I'm not sure if you read it in the comments for the Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome reaction, so I'm gonna say it here.
There's actually a Mad Max game from 2015, which is really good.
I highly recommend you give it go.
Finally, Somebody did PAUL!
@@jjkcharlie report it as spam.
James probably can't do much about this.
Someone's pretending to be you telling us we have won a ps5
What I always find fascinating about Paul, is just how much it feels like an addition to the Cornetto Trilogy (by way of a Seth Rogan film) in terms of the screenwriting. It really highlights Simon Pegg's contribution to the style and comedy of those films.
I love this film, the scifi references run rampant throughout and Pegg and Frost are hilarious
Gotta love ‘em. Felt like they genuinely are about that..and honestly wouldn’t doubt if they are.
@@JamesVSCinema they definitely must love the genre, I wouldn't think you could do a movie this well if you didn't.
Yup. When agent Zoyle shoots the radio, saying "Boring conversation anyway". th-cam.com/video/iXVIc0txrxs/w-d-xo.html
@@christophergodawski5663 that one always makes me laugh, that and the bar band literally playing the cantina song
@@robertbunting3117 I never spotted that band one but the girl's poor attempt at swearing has to be a reference to Spock in The Voyage Home. Pegg's autobiography was entitled 'Nerd Do Well', and he has...
Never clicked a notification so fast no one reacts to this.....................Thank you Brother and as always a stellar reaction
Ayyyy anytime!! Enjoy the weekend brother!
My thoughts exactly its so good but no one reacts to it
Don't know if you've seen it, but Bill Hader is being a beast in Barry, from HBO. Acting, directing, writing, drama and comedy, just incredible!
Aw man been trying to get my bro to watch Barry for about a month now, couldn’t recommend it enough!! Bill kills it
if this man watched Barry that would be insane. not that many ppl are reacting to that show
I subbed to one month of BrandonLikesMovies patreon just to watch his Barry reactions
Both Bill Hader and Jason Bateman did real good drama wise with their own show too (Barry and Ozark)
@@LiTTleGaBi21 If you haven't watched their Actors on Actors video, it's a good watch
Can't say I expected this movie to pop up but man am I glad it did.
Haven't seen it in years but it always holds a place in my heart. So many of my favorite comedic actors throughout the whole movie and just a fun time all around.
Hi James, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. I’ve been watching you reactions for about a year and a half, your unique take on my favourite films have given me much more of an appreciation for them than I originally had. Your criticism has opened my eyes to the artistic beauty within films I “thought” I knew. From one artist to another, thank you for the education in cinema that I wasn’t looking for, but am glad I received. I’m anticipating many more, many thanks, Kurt 💙
This is awesome. Seriously appreciate you my friend! Made my entire night.
20:14 Same thing Han Solo said in Episode 4 after shooting the intercom when they were on the Death Star rescuing the princess. So many solid references and performances in this movie.
Wow, never thought I'd see this gem on the channel! Hella underrated addition to the Frost/Pegg canon. If you ever want a shortish TV show with some WILD filmmaking, check out "Spaced" sometime; that was the first thing they did together.
This is a great choice! I like you dropping these winners for the weekend ❤
Always happy to hear this, for real
Notice that the band in the bar was playing a country version of the Cantina music from Star Wars
"and God be with you", "yeah, whatever dude." is my favorite bit in the whole movie. I have suggested this movie to several reactors and James you are the first one I've seen react to it. I think this movie is very underrated. I like this movie better than Shaun Of The Dead and At Worlds End.
My friend and I have made that line a running gag. Whenever anyone starts dropping their religious platitudes: "Yeah, whatever, dude."
10:21, Its so weird seeing an Invincible reference from 2011 before it even became popular.
Jason Bateman's deadpan delivery is too good, his expressions speak so much more than words speaking of which he was fantastic in Bad Words.
He’s great. I loved Ozark very much, really dark and great characters
This and Scott pilgrim were my only DVDs for like 3 years after I moved out lmao, watched this shit in my barracks room like every night.
Bro those are some solid films to have during that haha. Those come in clutch! Always a great time
"Time Bandits" from 1981 will blow your movie making mind. It'll never be the #1 comment or vote on a poll. I hope to see it one Thursday. Love your input an insight!!
Is that the one with a space herpe?
@@rastiga9196 It's the one where midgets that helped god create the universe steal a map of it and proceed to jump through time and space escaping the almighty and bringing a young British boy along to stop the dark one from getting the map and ending existence. You were close though.
Good choice but my also suggest by the same director and in a similar vain 'Jabbawocky', featuring soooo many iconic British comedy actors.
@@misterprecocious2491 I am going to watch it tonight. I was unfamiliar with it. Thanks for the recommendation. I hope James is reading these. *wink wink*
@Schaden Freude Thanks, couldn't remember the name!
Thank you for being around to give some of us someone cool to relive movies with.
My man 🙏🏽
Watched this on a whim a few years ago and absolutely loved it, laughed my behind off.
5:49 Thing is, the story is seen from the perspective of two British nerds, so the strange and unusual world they're caught up in is America. That's why the actual 'alien' in the movie talks 100% like an American dude.
It surprised me just how much invincible was in this movie. These dude knew about it and where into it before it was cool. Well done dude, great reaction, keep on rocking.
SO EFFFING glad you finally did this and im soooo happy you haven't seen it, im actually surprised with the love you have for simon and nick :P anywways man love the content as always im not even gonna watch it here im going straight to patreon haha :P thanks man
bro you have been on a fucking ROLL with the Patreon picks, all of these are gold. I’ll get tired of your enthusiasm and I’m still looking forward to the grind house you said you were going to make ;)
Shaun of the Dead is legit one of my favorite movies so I always loved this one too. It's a solid rewatchable sci-fi comedy with a great cast. It doesn't feel like any character in this movie is unnecessary, everyone is funny and they all play a part in moving the plot along.
An absolute classic comedy this film - love it! big love & respect to you James as always
Finally!!! Been waiting for you to arrive here! Seen it 5 times and will again. ...it is ....special 😊
Please confirm what this is James??,
Forgot to mention, both Simon Pegg and Nick Frost appeared separately on the BBC comedy series Black Books, starring stand up comic Dylan Moran aka "David" from Shaun of the Dead, Bill Bailey another noted stand up from across the pond and Tamsin Grieg, who is less well known but had a cameo in Shaun, playing a member of Yvonne's mirror group that they run into while trying to make it to the Winchester. It's a funny short series worth a watch.
I am so glad you got to see this one! One of my all time favorites and it seems to have been largely forgotten. Nice to finally see it get some well deserved attention.
I'm just so happy. I don't know what else to say. THANK you for this one, James.
I’m happy to see you reacting to this film. Hopefully this will get some other reactors to take a look as well🤞
Fun fact: the fun scene where they're play-fighting with one of them dressed as a Star Trek "Gorn" was filmed at Vasquez Rocks - which is where the Star Trek episode featuring the Gorn ("Arena") was filmed.
God this movie is underrated. I watched this movie around Christmas time with my dad and brothers back in like freshman year, so this is a Christmas movie for me. God good times.
Paul is so underrated💙😂💙, people usually watch there are other films and forget about this one.
Great reaction. Had a lot of fun. All best from Europe
Cheers my friend
Thanks for this, when you laugh the world laughs with you and your's is so gosh darn infectious :) Hope you are well, stay awesome, stay genuine... much love
I love this movie so much I was actually a little worried how you’d react to it because if you didn’t like it it would hurt my feelings 😂😭
20:09 This is a reference to A New Hope. Whilst disguised as Stormtroopers, Han Solo shoots the communication device to 'hang up' Then says "Boring conversation anyway."
While not on the level of Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, it's still great to see the comedy duo of Pegg & Frost together again and how can you not love Seth Rogen as yet another animated character. I mean come on!
I actually enjoyed "Paul" a lot more than "Shaun of the Dead." It's just funny and entertaining with an ensemble of comedians that all did great.
Agreed it’s a different thing. Not as tight. I still love it though. Such a great cast.
I just submitted and subscribed. Only because you released this reaction an hour before I searched for exactly this.
Bro there will never be another comedy movie to this level.. the cast the comedy everything I just love this movie
I really enjoy the nods to other sci-fi movies. Probably my favorite is the band in the country bar playing the song from the cantina scene in Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope.
On the DVD commentary they said that the band didn't have to learn the song. They already knew it, because they played it at a wedding at the request of the newlyweds.
My favorite is "Boring conversation anyway" which is also a nod to Star Wars.
@@cirrustate8674 Yeah that's a good one. Then the firework they used to signal Paul's ship was called 5-tone and they played 5 musical notes at the fireworks store. That was reference to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. And when the old lady says to Sigourney Weaver's character to "Get away from her you bitch!"
That was a line that Weaver said in the movie Aliens. This movie is just full of those references. I called it the test to see how much a sci-fi nerd a person is. How many references do they understand from the movie?
Anchorman, What dreams may come and now Paul. Greatest week of reactions ever.
aaaaah ive watched this a fair few times but i just got it, when the agent shoots the car radio "boring conversation anyway" thats han solos line from star wars, how did i not see that before
I love this movie. Watched it I don’t know how many times. Might be my favorite Pegg/Frost film. I love the alien, road trip vibe.
Favourite moment:
"I'm on a mission from God!"
"Tell him you failed!"
Lives rent free in my head as one of the hardest going lines ever put to film. It's amazing.
I got this movie from the $5 bin a few years back and absolutely love it! I have always loved aliens and comedy, this movie is absolutely nerd gold!
Such a underrated movie
Moorcroft, Wyoming isn't just a single farmhouse on an empty plain, and there's no ravine of that size anywhere near it. It is a small town of about 1100 people, but it's also not right next to Devil's Tower. That'd be Hulett. But that's the movies for you.
I live near where they filmed most of this movie (northern New Mexico). I was just driving down one of the roads from the final car chase.
Finally someone reacting to this movie 👍
Ohh yesss. This movie is soo good. Simon and Nick is such a goated duo.
A good just for fun movie with great sci fi references throughout, reminds me a bit of Galaxy Quest, but instead of focusing on a single franchise, it has fun with the whole genre.
Did you notice the fact that the music the band was playing in the bar when the fight broke out was the "Cantina Band" theme from Star Wars? :)
Also, when Jason Bateman shoots his radio and says "boring conversation anyway", that's exactly what Han Solo did on the Death Star in Star Wars.
And do I even have to mention "Get away from her, you BITCH!" :)
Highly recommend anyone watch Harley Davidson and the Marlboro man. It’s a classic early 90’s western biker action movie, it honestly feels a lot like an old western set in a more modern age.
I watch this movie about once a week. Just spark one up and enjoy the ride! The Adam Shadowchild jokes never get old.
This movie is one of my families favorites. Seen it probly 20+ times. Just feel good and great all around.
Pretty sure Bill hader and Jason Bateman used these roles as a reference that got BARRY and Ozarks backing (not that they'd need it, but to show to potential shareholders or whoever in the pipeline as an example of more serious role capability coming off of Arrested Development, and hader from SNL and other comedy films), it's cool to see the like career trajectory timeline of actors to see how they evolved (BARRY and Ozark are 2 phenomenal series btw)
Love Paul saw it in theaters and got it on blu-ray when it first came out.
8:25 The "farmers" line feels like a reference to _Hot Fuzz_ ("Everyone and their mum is packing around here.")
And I could never fully buy into the Sherlock Holmes story _The Hound of the Baskervilles_ because (spoilers) the victim was an American rancher who somehow didn't think to carry a gun.
There were talks of a Sequel to the movie called Pauls, where Simon Pegg and Nick Frost reprise their roles to save Paul, but there's just one problem: he was illegally cloned and they must find all his doppelgangers from corrupt government agents that want to exploit them for weapons, but the sequel was cancelled.
Anyway thanks for the video!! See you later!! Stay safe.😊
galaxy quest is some what like this.lol cheers love the star wars canteena music in the bar fight..
I'm a bit surprised that you didn't mention the famous movie quotes in this one.
"I'm on a mission from God." - The Blues Brothers
"Boring conversation anyway." (after shooting the radio) - Star Wars: A New Hope
And, of course, even though it wasn't seen in this edit: "Get away from her you bitch!" when punching Sigourney Weaver 🤣
Great reaction to a great and funny movie!!! Thank you for this 👍👍👍
Bill Hader... started as a PA, absolutely love that dude for his weirdness and comedy funny. And his Bravo to be an industry leader!
i totally agree on your perception of simon pegg and nick frost. this movie is really awesome and they are great in this, but them combined with edgar wright's writing and direction... just incomparable. also, i am really happay that you enjoyed this movie so much.
Love the casting
grew up watching this movie
I was just looking for this the other day
Closest thing to this is probably Galaxy Quest. I'm sure you've watched it, but if you haven't, do it immediately.
James did you notice the band in the hill Billy bar was playing the Star Wars Mos Eisley cantina song?
I did!
James the spaceballs joke was genius
Lol I forgot Bill Hader said "Boring conversation anyway."
Are all his one liners quotes from other movies?
When it comes to alien comedies, the first thing that comes to mind is My Stepmother is an Alien from '88, with Basinger and Akroyd.
The movie that is similar to this are Galaxy Quest and an English movie called Attack the Block its Sci fi comedy horror it's made on a small budget but it's good. It's filmed on a council estate which is a hood in the UK with gangs drugs etc.
Just know, if you go to Comic-con, and there's a panel you REALLY want to go to, you probably have to show up to the room its in 2 panels before the one you want if you want a seat, they don't clear the room after panels.
I grew up in a tea household. 7:54 American through and through but Tea really is just superior to coffee. No teeth staining, no weird coffee breath after drinking it. Its just better. That being said, as an Adult, I keep coffee and tea well stocked. They both really are mana from heaven. Also, most mainstream bagged teas are poison.
A movie that I think is kind of similar I think is called Spaced Invaders but I can't find it anywhere streaming.
A lot of similarities to the original “Starman” movie with Jeff Bridges if you’re interested in going way back. Not so much the Alien, but his reactions to new surroundings and the chase elements
20:10
It's a star wars reference. Han Solo says it on the Death star in Episode IV
It's still a fun sci-fi comedy film.
Attack The Block is a funny alien film that also has Nick Frost in it.
Awesome, haven't seen this hilarious movie on any other channel. Another brilliant selection...kick-ass job. 👍
The easter eggs run long and deep in this one. My favorite low key one is the sandwich shop named “Gerty’s”. Gerty was Drew Barrymore’s character in ET.
You have to delete this.
I make the same comment
James if you want to attend a comic con, go to FanX in Salt Lake City. Even Stan Lee said it was the best comic con on the planet.
fun to think about the invincible comic references in this movie where seth rogen is an alien to the fact he would one day be an alien in the animated invincible show
Im still waiting for Paul 2.
"Itll never happen"
LET ME DREAM,DAMMIT
Tom Delonge of the band Blink 182 is a big part of the reason that the government has been releasing information
James
There were talks about a sequel called "Pauls" by these comedic duo. But they scrapped the plans.
great review. check out th sci fi movie reference list in Paul though. e.g. Lorenzo's 'Boring conversation anyway' as he shoots the car radio. straight outa Star Wars with Han Solo.
and loads more. Pegg & Frost are the genuine comicon geeks we all know.
Great reaction, a funny movie to watch. Love the twists and turns at the end too. Where is Paul 2?
You seriously need to react to Walk Hard the Dewey Cox story with John C Reilly. It's freaking hilarious and has an amazing cast
Thanks for this, great movie!
I wonder what Sigourney's response was at the table read, when she dies by UFO.
Sooooooo many movie/SciFi references in this entire movie
You seem to have missed so many pop culture movie references in this film, which just shows you have a lot of movies still to see.
Bill hader had that Barry energy in this movie
To be honest I probably faint too, if I don’t die of shock lol
“Boring conversation anyway” Han Solo, “A New Hope”
Mars attacks!! Great movie and cast.
I'm so obsessed with this movie lol
about the recent release of "ufo" stuff. I been around long enough to see the gov release "ufo" reports once every 30 years. It's a normal thing now. Most of what we're seeing in these releases are anywhere from 15-30 years old and, my guess is, most of the footage is of when drones were being 1st experimented with.
