I loved the part where Meryl was standing up for Vash and this was the music playing. It was amazing to see that Vash's beliefs were actually rubbing off on other people. It gave his life purpose again.
Samurai Hayato "Why don't you go ahead? I would welcome this to be my time. After all, there's no reason for such an egocentric, incomplete life like mine to be allowed to continue anyway. Give me the gift of nothingness. Give me death."
Gosh, I haven't seen the show in years, but I felt myself tearing up. I didn't understand why, but then I remembered they chose THIS song to play at the saddest moments. The composition itself isn't sad, nor haunting. The melody is very beautiful. It clashes with the scenes, enhancing them. They played this when Legato manipulated Vash, AND when Meryl saves Vash in the next episode. Very clever usage.
14 years later ...and... here I am again listening to this piece..and since, I've lost 6 great friends. Great, great friends to things such as cancer, suicide, car accidents. I only have two best friends or maybe one left. This piece means a lot to me. I discovered this piece thanks to one of my friends [passed on]. I hope I'm not the last one left in my group as long as this piece is still able to be heard by human ears.
You've been through so much. I've lost many close friends in similar ways. It's amazing how we can still be touched by those we've lost, even after decades.

The tale of an easygoing bounty hunter and his companions adrift on a sea of stars, each saddled with a heavy burden, doing all they can to lighten each other's loads as they come to terms with their pasts... The tale of an infamous gunslinger and those near to him, dodging headhunters and enduring tragedy, trudging through the sand in search of a ticket to Eden; a future with no wars, and no stealing... I'd love to see the child of THOSE soul mates.
This definitely has that kind of intensely bittersweet blissful motif of a feeling, the same feeling you'd got when you escaped midgar for the first time in FF7. The kind of "Things are gonna be okay, and we've accomplished so much.. But have we really?.. And what now?" Honestly, it almost sounds like an anthem at times, like a heartfelt dedication poured into a tune.
;_; Poor Vash...To go through so much pain and suffering for so many decades only to have it all wasted when he is forced to take a life to save another...
@Momentum139 You're welcome. Just happy to be the one who gets to spread knowledge, which balances out my inferiority complex and makes me feel almost like a regular person.

@toastyovens The cat is supposed to be representative of the viewer, in almost all situations it bears witness too it is detached and not involved, you are supposed to connect with the cat more than any other character in the series. JK
@Momentum139 You make a lot of sense. Every anime has its own personality and ideals that no other anime can really duplicate, and there are some people who will like what's expressed in one anime more than another, even if it is technically inferior. However, because of the many visible components of plot, any anime (or storyline in general) can realistically be analyzed for quality, i. e. in depth and character development, so it is possible to proclaim one anime is better than another.
Any ideas as to what key this song is in? I love it. A very nice representation of woodwinds in an anime. :3 I'm thinking about making an arrangement of this song because Trigun is awesome. It sounds like there is a flute, oboe, bassoon, and a clarinet in here. :3 Beautiful.

yes! one of the most powerful moments in anime history in my opinion
A compromised morality would defeat Vash, not guns and bullets. Legato knew that, which truly makes him an epitome of a villain.
