I have a 2019 1.0 TSI Style that I recently bought. I'm over the moon happy with my purchase. It's a steal for the price and all the optional packages that it has installed.

Out of interest, my wife had a '16 reg Focus diesel which we really liked, but there was a weird sense of 'rubberiness' about the gear change, the steering feedback and the overly squishy plastics. I much prefer the firmness of VAG cars. I hope you enjoy the Skoda. Given you've treated yourself to the SEL trim, I'm sure you'll feel like it's a real step up. You certainly will in respect of interior space. Please do come back when you've got it and let me know how you're getting on.
Hi Matt, great review of the scala. I got my new scala about a week ago after having a 20 plate octavia estate desel for 4 absolutely trouble free years, without doubt the best car I've ever owned. My scala is the 1.0 tsi 110 se technology and I'm really happy with the car. It to me drives similar to the octavia but just a bit smaller. My first choice would have been another octavia but the deals on the scala at the time were unbeatable. Personally i don't mind the looks at all to me its like a small octavia estate and the drive, comfort and practicality are all excellent. The only other car i was considering was a Toyota corolla estate hybrid but they are way more expensive and probably don't do that much more to the gallon the the scala.

Yes, I can agree with everything you've said here, and funnily enough, I saw a new facelifted Scala on the road as I was driving back from doing the weekly shop this morning and can see that the new headlight shape gives it a much sleeker look overall. I'd be interested to know how you get on with the infotainment system. I hope that Skoda have now resolved the niggles in these systems as I found the units and software in my '15 and '18 Octavia's to be near perfect and was disappointed to read that owners have been experiencing some frustrating glitches on newer models. I also looked at the Corolla and came to the same conclusion as you - great minds, and all that! Hello, thanks for sharing the review ! I've got my skoda scala 2023 for about 2 months now, same engine 1.0 TSI 110 (yeah not 115 as it was in 2021). I'm overall very pleased with it although I have noticed a strange thing I would say but not sure since I ain't very experienced with cars (only owned a golf 5 diesel before). from day 1 I noticed a slight vibration on the clutch pedal that seems to be in sync with the engine revs. It is pretty minor, not that noticeable but definitely there and felt especially when changing gears at high revs. On the internet people say that is quite normal given the nature of the engine being in inly 3 cylinders, but I'm not sure. Have you noticed something similar?

No, neither my car, nor the example that I had when I first drove the Scala as a courtesy car when my wife's Fabia was in for service, suffered from any vibration at the pedals. In fact, a colleague of mine had a BMW 3 series GT which was awful in terms of vibrations transferring to the cabin at tick-over - something which I noted that none of the Skoda's I have owned have ever done. If you bought it from a dealer, it should still be covered by the warranty so definitely push to get it checked out and resolved. Let me know how you get on!
Ive just had mine for a month weeks and to be honest im a tad disappointed with it. I had a 15 plate Octavia 2L diesel for years and it was a terrific car to drive and put together very well. Ive found the Scala inferior in build quality, the door cards rattle and the doors themselves dont have that reassuring clunk when they shut. I dont find the infotainment very intuitive and dont mention the bloomin lane assist needing to be switched off everytime you turn the ignition. The steering is very woolly too with little feedback. Having said all that it is incredibly good value for money as is the norm for Skodas. Like you say spacious, reliable and reasonably frugal. Mines the 1L SE L manual with digital cockpit but Im already looking to exchange it. It was for bought mainly for the missus to drive but she wants to go back to a DSG. Good review by the way.
Thanks for the comment Nigel, glad you liked the review. Although, I could've done with having a chat with you before recording it as you've highlighted a couple of things I forgot to mention. Firstly, for the first month of driving mine, I was driven made by the incessant rattling. It turned out to be the umbrella hidden in the driver's door. Not so much Simply Clever as bloody annoying! Then there is the Lane Keep Assist. After two and a half years, I think I've just grown use to it, but at first I recall finding it very intrusive. With that said, I didn't ever bother turning it off. I'm interested in your comments about the steering as I too came from a 14 plate Octavia with the 1.4 TSI manual in SEL trim, and then an 18 plate 1.0 TSI Octavia Estate with the 1.0 TSI DSG. They were both great cars, but I can't say that I noticed any particular loss of feedback or driver enjoyment when I got the Scala - except of course in respect of losing the DSG! They did have an even more solid build though and certainly, a greater sense of quality. Talking of automatics, I expect to be picking up my next car on Wednesday and it's an automatic, albeit not in the conventional sense... so watch out for the review, as maybe my next car will suit you and your wife!!

Like you its an automatic for us soon but it won't be a Skoda unfortunately as we've looked at other models and are very so so. I've got my eye on a Porsche.....🤔. I couldn't afford it at the time. My family and I were going through a hugely uncertain time financially. Having owned an Octavia with the 1.4 tsi, I can imagine that a Scala with the 1.5 tsi would be great. Thanks for the comment.
