I saw Henk Poort sing this live, he was sitting right in front of me and I cried my heart out. One of my favorite songs, ofcourse in English too and that week my husband was hospitalized because of leukemia, so I was there alone, missing him like crazy. It felt like Henk sang it for me alone, he kept looking at me, probably wondering why I was crying so hard.
Funny to see the Dutch 'translation' of an originally English language song, translated more or less literally back to English in the subtitles. The Dutch text was written by the late, great Martine Bijl, who was a great performer herself, but truely excelled at rewording/translating foreign language texts to beautiful Dutch.
Omg, Martine Bijl was really the best translating poet we have ever had! And what a beautiful soulful singer and whitty woman as well! This redition of Henk Poort magical as ever! I love that you love this wonderful show from our mother country so much! Dutch artists really are like this and we treasure them for it. Love from the Netherlands
The Dutch translation is so poetic ... Don McClean's original is timeless of course, but I love the sheer poetry that the Dutch translation brings to the song.
Vincent Van Gogh was a Dutch painter so it is very befitting that this in in Dutch, translated by (the late) Martine Bijl into pure poetry. Absolutely breathtaking! Original of Vincent is Starry starry night by Don McClean.
when they recorded the show ( on Ibiza ) the woman who made te text ( the dutch text ) Martine Bijl was sick ,but in the week befor they aired the show she past away so in a way this also became a little bit of a tribute to her , she was a tv host and also a brilliant songwriter ( as you can hear in this song ) and a theather maker ,
Uncle Henk is a super nice guy, dry humor a real Amsterdammer haha😊😇 This was another great Song...man, man great 🔝 Thanks for this video Dear greeting from the Netherlands at 12 o'clock in the night 😛🌜⭐🌠🌘
I love one specific English version (request is on its way 😊), but I really enjoyed this Dutch version. Some mean neighbour must have started cutting onions the first time I heard Henk singing it. 😢
In the past I have never really listened to the lyrics of songs that much, but listening to reactions I have been doing that a lot more and in doing that been appreciating songs so much more. Great song and reaction this was again.
So beautyful . I believe that almost every Singer from the Netherlands are telling a story in every song . They feel what they sing . That's the quality of the Dutch 🥰🥰😘
I grew up with this song. The album American Pie was once of first albums a ever bought. I played the guitar since I was 12. I learned to play Vincent from Don McLean when I was about 15. Over time I got better at playing guitar and my progression to me was measured by the way I improved my Vincent. Up until today, now that I’m 60, it’s the song that keeps coming to me whenever I pick up my acoustic guitar. It’s so beautiful!!!
They are also intrigued because the story is about one of our national heroes. Vincent van Gogh was one of the best painters we had and has a museum in Amsterdam with only his work.
I love Vincen Van Gough paintings. That’s what intrigued me to watch this. I have never heard of this performer before. There is a lot of deep feelings and beautiful voice. It’s soo good! 💜
The translation is by Martine Bijl. She was beautiful, funny, did loads of translations, just a beautiful person. Sadly she had a stroke in 2015 and after a few years sufferering and being depressed she finally died in 2019. But she left her beautiful translations and this is one. Lot of people don't know she was an amazing guitar player.
I greatly appreciate all your love and support. Thank you for sharing some of the back story behind the singer. That I greatly appreciate! I am very happy that you enjoyed the music. I appreciate you!!
The tour that Henk mentioned was interrupted by Covid, but luckily he's picking it up again. In November I hope to see him in a beautiful venue in Amsterdam (Carré), together with his special guest on that evening: Floor Jansen. Henk was Floor's special guest during her tour in January 2020 (and will be in September when she picks up her interrupted solo tour) and in November she will be his special guest on 2 shows. And hopefully Henk will join Nightwish in Amsterdam in November as well to sing the Phantom with Floor.....
It's the briljant Dutch translation, it's I think almost better than the original because Vincent was a Dutch painter and then Henks voice singing... Martine Bijl is so missed by all of us.
Henk's voice is so soothing, and this sounds excellent in Dutch. Very different lyrics, but totally beautiful. Much prefer it to the original actually. BZ strikes again.
The best thing is that the english was translated to dutch and then back to english and completely different than the original song but with the same meaning/intention.
So relaxing and beautiful song .... That's it, I have to create a new playlist just for Beste Zangers and track down album/CD to my collection !!!!! This journey is awesome !!!! Thank You ... NWSU
I already wrote it but after this season I had a crush on Henk 😊 his voice is so beautiful and this song, original from Don Mclean is so beautiful. About one of the greatest painters of time. Beautiful lyrics. ❤
My name is Vincent and it meens VICTOR Survivor. My mother had a daughter and a son.... and after she had me,.. She called me Vincent... the victor, the child she never wanted but I was there, .. and she loves me, thanks for bringing love to the world with your comments.
your "beste zanger" content deserves more views, but thanks for putting it out. it will probably pick up when a show like this becomes a hit in Murica or somewhere else.
@@HighlyCombustibleReacts it was one of the best songs in my opinion…. And (again …. my opinion) totally underrated….. I know that Don McClean made a beautiful song, but ‘uncle Henk’ made it unforgettable…. So once again thank you…. Keep up the beautiful job you are doing…. For me, this is pure relaxation music. I can hear something like that in the evening to come down. But I prefer Henk even more in a language I understand. "Sommernacht" I understood 😁
If you want to listen to the English version try Jim van der Zee - Vincent | The voice of Holland | The Liveshows | Seizoen 8 Also from The Netherlands ;) But the English version!
Oh yeh Jim i was thinking who sing this song at the voice. It was Jim! Oh, he has a beautifull voice. HCX you really have to listen to the englisch version by Jim!!❤❤
Wow... such a great interpretation of one of the most beautiful songs ever written. If you are unfamiliar with Don McLean's original be sure to give it a listen. A heartfelt tribute from one true artist to a kindred spirit.
@Sunset Honeycomb the first sentence is Starry starry night. I am not saying that it is only about the painting, but it is the name of one of his paintings. No need to tell me what the song is about. I actually can understand English.
hey hun the storry is from don mc clain and the naam is story story it really beautifull i cry wen a lissen to it. look it up you have to it about the painter vincent fan goge

When you listen to an English version, please listen to Sophia Kruithof: th-cam.com/video/crzrVkQu130/w-d-xo.html She won The Voice Of Holland at just 17, and has the purest voice while playing the guitar. She reminds me of Eva Cassidy, another angel.
it's not clear if he hurt himself or if he was hurt by a quarrel with Gaugin... But anyway, how about a big shoutout to Don MacLean, who wrote this beautiful song in such a young age. And of course to the Marcel Fisser band and to Henk Poort, who gave such a beautiful rendition of the translation by the late Martine Bijl!

Cudo's to Martine Bijl for translating the song in this way. She could sing as well by the way (and a lot more, like acting, presenting, everything).
Omg, Martine Bijl was really the best translating poet we have ever had! And what a beautiful soulful singer and whitty woman as well! This redition of Henk Poort magical as ever!

She was. But then she was a Dutch language virtuoso. She's sorely missed.
The Dutch translation is so poetic ... Don McClean's original is timeless of course, but I love the sheer poetry that the Dutch translation brings to the song.
Martine Bijl een fonkelend gekleurde ster in een Starry Starry Night!

A dutch man singing about a dutch man, beautiful translation.
Henk Poort is captivating me with every word he sings....
Pffff....!!!
He paints masterpieces with the help of his voice!
I never knew this song but the lyrics... damn!!! They just transport me somewhere. And then i see all of them say the same things. Beautiful song
I have learned from you that every language have something special in it, not only my own language and English, but also other languages
Such a great singer Henk Poort, and a very nice comment from you, always full of respect, greetings from beautiful Amsterdam 🌷🌷🌷

First time I heard this melody was by Julio Iglesias, Starry Starry Night 🙂, about 40 years ago.
I'm a huge art fan and a bit of an artist myself. Love van Gogh. So this song really hits me. It is truly beautiful.
Give this man a book and some guitar strings and he can sing a book for us all........

The song "Vincent " from Don Mcclean is so beautiful. But Henk was amazing
Somehow, you always find the words suiting the singing song, according to me. Amazing. I like you 🤍
