Ah those boys have grown so much!! I love your mickey applique idea! You will be the envy of everyone at Disneyland! Bummer about your hudson pants. Whip up another pair for Austria!! I had a fun day thrifting with Jen yesterday. That was a nice little treat. WE MISSED YOU!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was soooo envious when I saw the little TH-cam short of the three of you. Why do you live so far away?? We will Thrift again some day, I am sure of that 🥰💗. How scary you think the boys have grown but I suppose it has been 10 months, can you believe that?! They are still just adorable and I love them to bits. Thanks for watching my lovely friend who I miss SO much 💗🤗💗🤗💗
Great vlog Carole, thank you. The pictures of your boys at the end are just wonderful
Aww thank you so much. I do love my Grandsons 🥰. 🧵😊
You are so stinkin’ adorable, Carole! And, incredibly creative and talented! 😘💗
Andra, you are the sweetest!! Have a good week 💗🤗💗x
Thank you, Carole, for sharing your sewing delights and frustrations. It is wonderful that you are so candid about the problems, turning them into a great learning experience. The beach and countryside photos are beautiful. Enjoy your family holiday in the snow.🎉😂❤ 🇦🇺 🪃
Thanks so much for your kind comment and watching. I would feel like a cheat if I wasn't completely honest about my trials and tribulations! I am glad you enjoyed the photos and thanks for the holiday wishes. Have a good week 🧵😊
The pictures with the boys were so wonderful Carole! I love how you end your vlogs. And what a fun and creative scrap Mickey. Minerva is interesting. So many fabrics and sometimes I'm drawn to the price, which isn't always a good thing. Now I scan the details of every fabric before buying. The stretch %s are key, I agree. I've also found thicker cotton knits, without a bit of lycra, are less stretchy, so I look for that as well when possible. Have. a wonderful snow filled time in Austria. It's so beautiful there. xo
Thanks so much for your lovely comments and I am glad you still enjoy the photos. If I hadn't have had the same fabric for Chris's I would have agreed with you that I should have checked more thoroughly but it is so interesting there was so much less stretch in the different colour? I know what you mean about those cotton knits, if they do stretch they have no recovery do they. That is what I don't like about Pop Knit fabric from JoAnns.
We can't wait to go back to Austria, we used to go there every year but haven't been back for a couple.👏🏼 Have a good weekend 🧵😊
Hi Carole, your Pants look just fine. I like the contrast of the cuff it helps define the bottom of the leg. The beach looked like a lot of fun. Thank you ☺
Aww thanks so much Babbra. I think the colour will just take a bit of getting used to. My hubby did say...why on earth would you choose pink for joggers 😂. The beach was cold, but wonderful. 🧵😊
This is very interesting! Crazy how much difference the fabric makes to a pattern. K xxx
And the stupid thing was, Chris's was the same fabric, way more stretchy and he had no problems getting his feet in 🤣. It must have just been because of the different colour, we don't stand a chance do we 😭😂. Thanks for watching Kelly xx
Thank you for sharing your woes about the pants. We have all done that. It’s so frustrating. I have the pattern and thick fabric I was going to use. I guess I’ll go up a size and be wary of the cuffs. Beautiful pics, the boys didn’t care about the cold, just had fun. Nice.
It is so funny as Chris's trousers turned out so much better so it must have just been the colour that made the difference. A thinner weight sweatshirt or french terry is certainly a better option and proper rib cuffs (although again, Chris's weren't a problem!). Good luck anyway 🧵😊
Ugh jersey is so unpredictable isn’t it!!!!! Good save though 🎉
Mickey Mouse is amazing!!! What a fabulous idea! You’re so right about the letters, that would be a nightmare to do on a premade sweatshirt!!
What gorgoeus beach pictures 🥶 ❤
Have a lovely weekend Carole xx
Honestly, it just wasn't fair about that fabric. Chris's fabric was exactly the same just a different colour and his turned out fine! I have done the second Mickey and on that blue sweatshirt it looks really good so now I want to do more (like everything eh?). I think short words would be fine on a sweatshirt but nothing over 5 characters 😂. We do have lovely beaches in our part of the world, one day I will tempt you to come over and visit!! Have a great week and thanks for watching 🧵😊xx
Great pictures of the English countryside and beach. I don't think children feel the cold when they are happily playing, we just feel the cold for them. Thank you for a great Friday Sews, love your Disney applique, great idea. You are one creative lady.
Thanks so much for watching. You are right about kids not feeling the cold, either that or they are just having too much fun to notice!
I really appreciate your kind comments so much 🧵😊
Another great vlog. I made the Tilly and the buttons Stella joggers and I too couldn’t get my foot either in or out. I now have ankle crazing joggers, purely the jersey fabric. Your grandchildren are adorable and it’s lovely to see your adventures. x
Thanks so much for your comment and for making me smile! I mean I don't even have big ankles 😂. It is all about the fabric isn't it and you would think with 50 years of sewing I should know that! Those boys are adorable, I love spending time with them. Have a good week 🧵😊
Thank you Carole; your Disney sweatshirt is genius. Such a great way to customise a sweatshirt, endless possibilities.
Thank you so much, the second Mickey I made was so much better and my daughter is so happy! As you say, there are so many possibilities with this idea of Sharon's. 🧵😊
You and your hubby standing back to back looks so adorable!
We were in hysterics as I honestly was shocked about how much shorter I am than him 🤣🤣
Carole, what you get done in a week is AMAZING! Fabric shopping for me is a very tactile/color therapy thing, so I love my trips to fabric shops. I agree, those fat quarters are gorgeous. Never mind about your pants. We all have duds once in a while. Enjoy your snowy vacation! ⛰ Bernadette
Hi Bernadette, I can say one thing, those joggers are comfy and cosy if nothing else 🤣. We need that right now in the UK as it is freezing!
I do love buying in person from fabric shops but I just don't have any that local to me that I have been able to get to recently. You know me, I want that fabric NOW and hate to wait for them to be posted 🤣 so I end up at Minerva every time with their super fast shipping!
Hope you have a great weekend and thanks for watching as always 🧵😊
@@socarole66 we have a marvelous quilt shop in town, but quilting fabric is pretty much all they sell. I look forward to my one hour drives into Edmonton where I get to my favorite Fabricland.
Hi Carol. The Mickey Mouse appliqué is really cute.
I am famous for choosing the wrong fabric for a pattern. We all get it wrong sometimes.
Thank- you for sharing the beach pics. They were sure having fun.
Hi Lori, thanks for your comment. My daughter loves the blue one I made her and it looks so good on that blue sweatshirt, I can't wait to show you on Friday. Have a good week 🧵😊
Another fun video. 🎉 The Disney ears were brilliant. You have a very creative mind. Thank you for sharing your love of sewing with us! ✂️🧵🪡📍I hope you have a fabulous holiday. ❄️❄️❄️
Thanks so much, my daughter loved the Ears so that was a great win! I just love coming up with ideas like that and they are successful. Thank YOU for watching, it would just be me on my own without you! 🧵😊
Many thanks again Carole, great information re pants.
Love the pics of the boys at end….always love your slide shows and accompanying music, very therapeutic and relaxing ☺️💕🧵Xxx
Thank you so much Elizabeth and glad you aren't bored by my photos yet! I just love that music so much and it has become such a part of my channel, I would hate it if they removed it from Imovie! Have a super weekend. 🧵😊
I know what you mean about fabric choice. I have a wrap dress that I made over a year ago and I’ve only worn it once. The fabric is beautiful, but it doesn’t have enough drape, so it gapes in the bodice and the skirt. I need to refashion it somehow. Your “scrappy” Mickey ears are adorable! I envy you living so near the ocean and beach! Such fun for the boys! 🥰
Hi Nancy, we do have those pieces of fabric that trip us up don't we! Sorry to hear about your dress but I am sure with your sewing expertise you will be able to fix it somehow. Katie loved that Mickey project so that was such a win! We are lucky to live on the coast and we have the bonus of the New Forest being on the doorstep as well. Once we moved here from where we were before, we decided we are NEVER moving again!! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
Thanks for sharing this Carole! I too discovered Sharon’s scrappy project and have been hooked ever since. Your version has inspired me! You did a beautiful job!
Wasn't that video addictive?! Great idea for all those scraps and it has had so many views hasn't it! I am so glad you liked my version and my daughter loved it too when she saw it. Thanks so much for watching 🧵😊
I was giggling thinking about you trying to get your feet out of the legs. Wow you are so creative and so busy in the sewing room. Enjoy your winter vacation. My sewing is coming to hopefully just a short halt in the action. I’m scheduled Tuesday morning for having my gallbladder removed. The boys are really cute. I live very close to Virginia Beach here in Virginia.
Thanks so much for your comment! Oh I do wish you well for your operation on Tuesday and hope you recover quickly. Let everyone else fuss over and look after you! We visited Virginia beach about 15 years ago in August....it was HOT 😅but wonderful.
Good luck for Tuesday xx🧵😊
Amazing what a difference in fabric makes - for good or ill 😬! Last week my cousin and I were outside at a garden in freezing weather - when we came inside to eat I had the zip stuck on my jacket and couldn't get out of it! I felt like a 2-year-old 😆 - I know what it's like to panic over trying to get out of clothing! The Mickey Mouse ears applique (head, too, of course!) is just wonderful and I think I may be appropriating it in a different motif...😁 - and I thank you for showing it. Yes, sometimes you just have to strike while the iron is hot and you have enthusiasm for a project - stale projects are not often fun. I think the Fabric Wheel of Fate helps with our burden of choice in today's world - studies have shown we can become paralyzed with indecision, while a narrow choice helps us focus and do things.
Oh Mary, your story about your zip made me panic just reading that! There is just something about being trapped in clothing isn't there, so glad you got out. Re the Mickey applique, I am also thinking about how I could adapt that further as it is a great way to use up scraps. I love your concept on the Wheel of fate and you are right, it takes the decision away from me which I can get bogged down with. We do have too many choices in this world now don't we, think of the size of our supermarkets compared to our food choices before for one example!
Have a great weekend and thanks for watching 🧵😊
@@socarole66 There was also the embarrassment of being stuck in my jacket in the middle of a restaurant 😂! Luckily in a dressing room you're alone - unless you have to call for help 😄! Have a wonderful, snowy time in Austria! We have a light coating of pretty snow here ❄!
Sorry your joggers didn't turn out how you wanted them but it is nice to know it's not just me that gets disappointed when a different fabric works out differently than previous version, it always make me feel like I've done something wrong!
I love that you sew as the mood takes you and do what you feel like, sewing is a hobby and should be fun and not feel like pressure as so many vloggers portray. Your Mickey ear applique idea was genius and it looks great. And thanks for sharing your lovely pictures
No don't worry Sarah, choosing the wrong fabric isn't just you and I have shown enough of those mistakes on my channel. You are also right in the fact Sewing for me is a hobby and I love just going with the flow. Obviously I need to plan things sometimes and do get stressed, you should have seen me gift making just before Christmas!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment and I am glad you liked the Mickey. 🧵😊
I love the top you're wearing, such nice colours. I bought dusky pink viscose for a blouse once and I had the same reaction, what was i thinking !....lol Austria is beautiful , enjoy your trip !
Thanks so much, that is one of my most favourite tops and I wear it a lot! My Hubby did say, why on earth did you make pink joggers? 😂
We love Austria so we are so excited to be going back, you are right, it is beautiful 🧵😊
What a great scrap busting idea, Carole . Your daughters sweatshirt will be perfect...and yours too. Yours and Chris's joggers both look fine to me. It shows how much patience you have with the cuffs ( i would have left those off) . What a lovely area you live in. 😊
Thanks Annette, I showed my daughter the Mickey and she loved it!! I did find the cuffs a trial I will admit but the fact is the joggers are too short without them. I found that odd as I am only 5'2".
We do live in a lovely area...especially when the skies are blue. Thanks for watching as always 🧵😊
Carole, your scrap Mickey ears fabric is beautiful.
Thank you so much, I showed Katie today and she was so happy! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
You are so funny. For your joggers, I agree the blush color 😮 how about a suggestion to salvage them if your interested-if there is no side seam, cut one and sew a 2” wide black fabric same as the joggers or even navy. That will give you the room you need and again, you’ll just be wearing them around the house. If not, me personally, I would cut them up for dust rags 😂😂 that’s just me. The Disney Mickey is beautiful. I love the blue and the point of the strips is mixing them up. Great job!!!!😊
Thanks so much for your comment, Chris did say to me, why on earth did you choose Pink?! I am pretty sure they will stretch as Chris has worn his a couple of times and they now have more ease. I will just live with the pink. Great idea to add strips and navy would look super cool. I have two Machine Dyes ready if I get that fed up! The second blue mickey turned out really well and my daughter loves it. 🧵😊
Carole, don’t be too hard on yourself. Both Hudsons look great. Love the contrast on the pockets. Another second hand bargain. Some dark green piping would work well if you make a cusion cover. Great idea with Micky Mouse scrapbuster. You sure are Disney crazy 🏰 Now at least 6400 viewers know that Chris will be turning 60 next month 😜 Have a great weekend! 🧵👍
Thanks so much Amanda. Luckily Chris hasn't seen the video this week so he doesn't know I have announced his age to 'all and sundry'!! Our family does like Disney and to be honest, we know it is somewhere the whole family can go and all have a good time and kind of, 'lose' themselves in the magic. Thanks so much for watching and your kind comments 🧵😊
It is so tricky buying fabric online. Even though your Hudson pants didn't give the result you were going for they certainly look great on you so there's that. I did notice that Sharon posted a video but haven't watched it yet. I'll be sure to check it out. I have discovered a new-to-me channel, @CatherineSews, and have been doing a bit of a binge there. She teaches sewing to highschoolers in British Columbia and does a lot of upcycling of thrifted items. So creative, and obviously her sewing is top notch. There's a video tour of her classroom and wow, it's nothing like my highschool sewing classroom. Lucky students.
I hope you have a nice weekend preparing for your upcoming trip and that you manage to squeeze in some sewing.
Thanks so much for your comment and agreeing with me about buying online!
I know the channel you are referring to and she is amazing! I watched one of hers recently about trying the TikTok techniques 🤣. She is just fantastic and so talented. Like you say, very lucky students!
Hope you have a good weekend too and yes, I will always try and squeeze in sewing where I can! 🧵😊
As sewers when we get an idea, that's it, everything else goes to he'll in a handcart - temporarily of coursec😂. Great vlog as usual ❤
Too right! Everything and all plans get abandoned until we have satisfied ourselves with the idea, either than or we are then too distracted to focus on anything else! Have a great weekend 🧵😊
I love the Mickey Mouse idea. It looks so professional and I like the one you tried out for you. It’ll be lovely on a t- shirt or sweatshirt. Re the Hudsons, it’s good that you persisted with them. Hopefully they will loosen up. I hate really tight joggers so I feel your pain. Maybe washing with a bit of vinegar might loosen the fabric up. I actually like the pink, and I don’t think it looks too skin like especially with the differently coloured ribbing. I like the ribbing too but maybe it looks better on camera as colours sometimes do. Looking forward to next weeks wheel of fate reveal 😉
I love the Mickey Mouse ears. That’s going to look great on a sweatshirt. And, it will be fun to wear in Disney.
I showed Katie this afternoon Cynthia and she LOVED it so that was a great win! Thanks so much for stopping by and hope you have a good weekend 🧵😊
Lovely makes Carole.
Re fabric for joggers - have a look at brushed French Terry from Eco-Bee. Its lovely for joggers and jumpers
Thanks Agata. After I filmed this video I received some Sweatshirting from BTPD which was lovely! That blue that I made the Butterick top from.
I'll take a look at E B
Xx
Thanks for sharing all your creative makes. Love the Micky ears on a sweatshirt. Such a great idea. I'm glad Chris is happy with his Hudson pants. Sorry yours didn't work out so well, but at least they are wearable inside. Knit fabrics are so hard to buy online. You can never really tell how the fabric will feel and how well it will stretch. I really wish there was a local place I could purchase knits. I'm looking forward to seeing your taco pouch and your wheel of fate make. Great pictures of the boys at the end, they are so cute. Have a wonderful time in Austria.
Thanks so much for watching Carol. I think that Viscose you can buy online but I have learnt my lesson with knits now, especially sweatshirting. Chris's was exactly the same fabric but a different colour so I had no reason to think I would have trouble!! My daughter just loved the Mickey when I showed her and they were such fun to do.
Hope you have a great week and thanks so much for your comment 🧵😊
As you know I have sewn a fair few Hudson Pants😀. I usually use a Minerva French Terry that is 95% cotton 5% Spandex. I do not like poly or poly cotton. The poly can be stiff or not. I have used other cotton spandex blends in other brands with great success - John Louden and Poppy. the boys were a big help and what a clever sweatshirt!
Thank you so much for stopping by Christine, you are the master of Hudson pants! Would you believe I had some Beyond the Pink Door sweatshirt fabric delivered today and it is wonderful, that would have been so much better 😂. xx
I love the Disney ears! Your Hudson pants look good and I bet they’re really comfortable too. I need to make myself some of those. Happy sewing 🧵 Pat
Hi Pat, yes those Hudson pants are comfortable and very snuggly so why am I complaining?! It is just the colour I think, so many people look good in the lighter colours but I don't think it is me. It is a really good pattern so hope I haven't put you off. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hi Carole! The patchwork quilt Mickey face is a great idea!! If you wanted to, you could "fussy cut" your strips so you wouldn't end up with just feet showing on a strip. It's a cute idea no matter what though. What a difference the fabric made in the fit of your pants! My goodness, you certainly have a very busy start of the New Year --- lots of sewing plans and travel plans. And coming to Disney World?? Will you be doing any fabric store shopping while here??? Do you hear Bahama Breeze calling your names?? LOLOLOL... Enjoy the cold of Austria. Actually, Florida has been mighty cold lately but no snow.
Hi Deb! So sorry to disappoint you (and us!) but we are heading to Disneyland Paris for a long weekend not Florida. It won't be any where near as warm. Believe me I would far rather be heading to Florida as that part of Paris is always bitterly cold and damp. Now I know we are heading to Austria which is cold but that is a dry cold and wonderfully crisp mountain air 🥰. Thanks so much for the lovely comment on the Mickey Ears. I tried to fussy cut where possible but slipped up on the Mickey feet didn't I! . I made a better job of the one for Katie in the blues. Have a super weekend and keep warm. xx
I wonder how DisneyLand Paris compares to the original DisneyLand in California? Anyway, you gals will be the envy of many with your snazzy Mickey shirts.
I've had my eye on those pants for some time now. I think it's time to order the pattern! I'm so glad they have the physical pattern available. Mark has some joggers I convinced him to buy at - where else? - Disney! You and Christine rave so the Hudson pants it is.
Ah, Minerva. I think it's that it's online and fabric is one of those things you need in person for color and hand. They have everything possible but it's such a trade off for going into the store. Come back to the warm and we'll go together.
I adore your fabric wheel of fate series. I hope it catches on - you never know! 😘🤗
Oh Jen you should definitely get that pattern, it is such a winner but sadly this time round the fabric wasn't stretchy enough and too thick! I do the high waist version though and they explain on the website how to do it for yourself. I am too old to have low cut things anymore 🤣.
Minerva and I.... we have a rollercoaster of a relationship. As you say, far too many fabrics on there and even if I look at the pictures of the makers I still fail as none of them EVER give an honest review! Give me a store any day but sadly as the Holiday Home is shut up for winter I don't get to go down to BTPD 😭. Don't tempt me to fly over there, I would in a heartbeat! Thanks for your comment on the Wheel, I love doing it so much, I just want people to share in the fun of choosing fabrics, if they don't, they don't but as long as we all sew some of our stashes that's fine by me!! Love you xxxx💗
I try to do a stretch test on my fabric before cutting into it. I can adjust the size I cut accordingly. Patterns usually tell you how much stretch they were designed for. Fabric stores will generally put in the product description the stretch but its always good to double check it. Love the Mickey Mouse patchwork patches. The beach photos are lovely. We have received 2 feet of snow this week. Lots of shoveling for my workouts 😂
Thanks so much for your comments and advice Nancy. Because Chris's fabric was exactly the same and I sewed his up first I didn't think there would be a problem. Obviously the colour had made a difference as there is so much less stretch in the pink even though it states the same on the website. The joggers are quite wearable though and they will grow in size as they loosen anyway.
Two feet of snow would be amazing over here but would ground our country to a complete halt 🤣. What a great way to workout by shovelling snow! At least when we see snow in Austria next week they know how to deal with it! Have a good weekend 🧵😊
Carole, I understand what you mean by fabric choice when sewing. I too made a pair of Hudson Pants recently and I chose a waffle knit. I should have been concerned when the greater stretch was not on the grainline line but I continued on and I am totally not happy with the result. Very baggy and when sewed using the serger they have quite a wave to the seams. I may wear them but I was totally disappointed. I was admiring the top you are wearing in this vlog and realized I have the same fabric I purchased in the summer from a on line store in Canada. I love the colour and have been searching for just the right shirt pattern with a v-neck and 3/4 sleeves. Love the Mickey design for your sweatshirts, they will be great for you to wear on your upcoming trip!! Take care!
Hi Brenda, thanks so much for your comment. Oh...waffle knit...I have had a fair few problems with that stuff before as well 🤣. It grows and grows doesn't it and unless you stabilise the seams (which I always forget) it gets that wavy look. Sorry your Hudson pants didn't come out well either, it is a great pattern for the right fabric! How amazing you have the same fabric, I think I got this one in JoAnns in America too so not surprising you may have it. Honestly it is one of my most favourite tops to wear. My daughter loved the Mickey so that was a great win! Thanks for watching 🧵😊
The joggers look great - too bad the fabric wasn’t great for them. Isn’t that frustrating though? That’s happened to me a few times. 😞 Those fat quarters really are beautiful. Can’t wait to see that Taco pouch you make with them. Have a great weekend! Xx 💞
Why is it some people look lovely in those colour joggers and I just looked naked?! I have found sometimes that different colours of the same fabric make a difference in quality as Chris's are so much nicer than mine and more stretchy! Honestly I just wanted to cry with joy when I saw those FQ, aren't they stunning? I haven't been disappointed with any of the boxes so far. Do I need another pouch? Probably not but I bet I find a use for it!
Thanks for watching and hope your weekend plans go well. Keep warm my friend! xx💗
Beautiful beach scenery! I had a chuckle about getting your foot stuck in the Hudson pants!😂 Your Micky Mouse scrapbuster is fab. I need to make some pencil pouches. And I'm looking forward to seeing what you make with that dbp from your fabric wheel of fate. I've chosen a pattern for mine and will get cracking on it this weekend!😊❤
Thanks so much for watching and all your lovely comments. Honestly, I was sweating trying to get those joggers over my feet 😅. Top Secret but I have finished my DBP top and I am really pleased with it so I am sure yours will be good too. I just kept thinking whilst sewing it, why did I wait so long?! 🧵😊
Fab makes! Never seen that waterproofing stuff! Stunning fat quarters. K xxx
Thanks Kelly, the waterproof stuff is really cool and could be useful on lots of things. It doesn't create a smooth surface though, it ends up like a wax jacket if you know what I mean. xx
Your Disney appliqué looks fantastic 😊
Thanks so much, I showed Katie this afternoon and she LOVED it!! 🧵😊
Thanks Carole. Great catch up look forward to seeing what you’ve been up to next week. Xx
Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a good week and happy sewing 🧵😊
It’s great that Chris likes his pants! Sorry that yours were a bit of a disappointment! I’ve had fabric that disappointed me too! The Disney shirts are a terrific idea. Enjoy your time in the snow! We have it here so much and I can’t say that I even enjoy it; only inside looking out and only at Christmas (and then it better not inhibit travel). Picky, picky! I always enjoy your photos you share at the end!
Thanks so much for your comment, I am sure I will like my joggers once they are worn in!! I fully understand that living with snow is very different to going away to be on holiday in it. When we do get it (on the very rare occasion ) we get all excited, then our roads go to pot and life ceases. Fun for a couple of days but no more! I warn you now, in a couple of weeks there are bound to be some Snow photos from Austria 😂. Have a good week 🧵😊
@ looking forward to your pictures of Austria!
Hi, your Hudson pants look good. There are certainly plenty of variety in your videos, and your photos always look great.
Would you know of a tutorial on how to make those pencil cases please? 😊
Hi Lynne, thank you so much for your kind comment on my Hudson pants, maybe I just need to wear them in and get used to the colour!
Those pencil cases are just something I made up quickly one day. There are probably a lot of TH-cam videos out there but I would be happy to do a tutorial if that is something you would be interested in? 🧵😊
@socarole66 thanks for the response. I have seen tutorials, but not exactly like yours. I'm sure if I give it a go I will be able to work it out. X
I can relate to the sweatshirt fabric issue - I made a turtle neck sweater with some sweatshirt fabric from Pound Fabrics with 70% cotton 30% poly and I can hardly get it over my head! When I do manage to get it on it hurts my ears getting it off! I made some bottoms from the same fabric but a different colour, but I didn't put a cuff on the bottom so they go on fine.
Oh your comment did make me laugh and then I remembered I have a Toaster Sweater that feels the same way when I wear it 🤣. It has to be the higher cotton percentage doesn't it. If those joggers had been long enough I would have just left off those cuffs but they weren't. At least the ribbing makes them easy to remove despite the colour! Thanks so much for watching 🧵😊
@@socarole66 I think it's the lack of any lycra in my fabric. I've made another one using French terry which is 95% cotton with 5% lycra and the neck is fine. I made some bottoms with alpine fleece from Northern Monkey Makes which is polyester 66%, cotton 30% and elastane (lycra) 4% and the stretch widthways is very good - not so stretchy lengthwise but OK. I just normally don't like fabric with too much polyester in it, but it's very cosy.
Hi Carole, I just picked up a very very old vintage pattern S8413 from my quilt group. It's very similar to the Hudson pattern. Chris's pants look perfect! He looks happy. I love the grey trim. Hey that pink ribbing works on yours for now! No worries. They are only temporary. Fabric makes all the difference. I know. Great pencil cases. That Mickey applique is genius!! Your Daughter will be over-the-moon happy for sure!! Wonderful placemats. I never heard of that waterproof stuff. Clever! What is it called? Where do you get it? Thanks. Gorgeous celestial fat quarters for the taco purse! NICE! Have a wonderful week Carole! 💖💖
Hi Grace, fabric does make or break a garment doesn't it and just wasn't fair that even though Chris's was exactly the same fabric the colour of it made the difference, argh!! Katie was thrilled about that Mickey applique and it looks so good on that blue sweatshirt. Now to make one for me. The stuff I used to waterproof the cotton was Odicoat and I bought it from Amazon (of course!). Thanks so much for all your sweet comments and have a good week too xx💗
@@socarole66 Wow that is so interesting Carole, Odicoat. I've never heard of such a thing. I usually buy oil cloth if I need to make some lunchbags. But this is genius. Thank you. I'm so busy sewing. I understand how you are so busy sewing for others. I have to cut out Annabelle's dress for her birthday in February and get sewing this month! Have a wonderful week Carole! 🥰😘❤❤
Another ribbing hint for you: use socks as ribbing on jogger legs. Learned when I had 30 minutes to repair my son's pants as he was leaving for boy scout camping!
Now that is GENIUS!!!! What a stroke of inspiration you had to do that. Now that is a great Mum! 🥰. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Carole you could also make different shapes
Like piglet or pooh just same silhouette of and cut around?
Just thought might be fun happy sewing
Take care ❤️
That would be an amazing idea, thanks so much for that. It is a fabulous way to use up my many scraps! Thanks for watching and enjoy your week 🧵😊
Love your Mickey, the one that you have for you would look cute with a large blue monogram letter in the middle to mave it not as bold.
Thank you so much for watching and that great idea! I may actually do that. Enjoy your weekend 🧵😊
Just a thought. Could you open (or trim off) the side seam and add a strip of the fabric you used for the cuffs? Change the waist band and it would look intentional.
Thanks so much for that idea! If they don't get 'larger' with wear I may indeed do that. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Can you add a strip of fabric coordinating with the cuff down the sides of joggers? Also, if you want different colors for your Mickey, use the tester on a bag!
Thank so much for that idea of adding a strip of fabric, Chris has worn his a couple of times and they are growing so hopefully mine will do the same! What a fabulous idea to put that Mickey on a bag. I made the second one and my daughter loves it. Have a good week 🧵😊
Hi Carole, I have a feeling that the ‘snug’ joggers may actually have a bit more polyester than not. I find that the more polyester the less these will stretch. I have made the Hudsons several times in the ‘cosy colours’ Sweatshirting … they are fine…. Made them in loop back French Terry…again fine….i really think it’s the polyester content that is the problem. Plus, polyester just won’t iron either so they always look ‘bouncy’.
Thanks so much for your comment on the fabric and that is an interesting point about the Polyester. The strange thing is, Chris's fabric was exactly the same and that had stretch! I totally agree with you about ironing, I gave up trying 😂. I hadn't thought of doing a French Terry version, thanks for that 🧵😊
I always get a swatch if not sure. Minerva descriptions I find can be misleading. ❤
Argh I know Anne and I should have done but to be honest, Chris's fabric was fine so I probably would still have been mislead. The colour really did make the difference, crazy eh? I hate paying for those swatches for something like a sweatshirt or jersey. Thanks so much for watching 🧵😊
Thanks for sharing the pencil case make - is this pattern available to buy? Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching and your comment. It is just a pattern I threw together. There are a few videos out there doing similar things so have a look. Whatever you do, don't buy a pattern as there are many freebies out there! I will probably do a tutorial in a month because you aren't the first to ask. 🧵😊
@ that’s great, thank you…and thanks for replying 😊
Making joggers for my brother but he doesn’t like a tight cuff was thinking of using a cuff off a pair of socks. That would definitely fit over a foot. 20:57
Thanks so much for your comment and it is funny as someone else mentioned using socks, I think that is a genius idea! Good luck 🧵😊
Hahaha I've made leggings in dusty rose. Regrets. Your joggers look good, but I agree wrong colour.
😂😂Your comment did make me laugh! I have two colours of Machine Dye just waiting to be used but to be honest, I would never go outside in them anyway so no one apart from Chris will see them. Have a good week 🧵😊
Hi Carole! I thought of you this week as I was looking through a magazine, the Bradford Exchange has Disney purses! Your daughter might like one of those purses. I saw that and immediately thought of you and your daughter. I told my husband about it and he said , how can you talk like that about people you’ve never met? I thought about that for a minute and then said, “well, I know that I don’t know any of these people, but I feel like I do because I watch their videos. He doesn’t understand, oh well, I don’t care what he thinks about that! I’ve had the same problem with fabric being wrong for a pattern, it’s very frustrating when that happens. I love those pencil pouches, so clever of you! I make those taco pouches in various sizes, they are very popular with my family. That beach scene is beautiful, but looks so cold! We are having some very out of the norm cold weather here, it’s snowing in the northern part of the state, but so far not here. Take care and stay warm! 😂
Hi Sue, well I read your comment and texted my daughter straight away. She said a friend mentioned it once but she hadn't looked...she is now! ( As I type this she is sending me pictures of bags 🤣)Thanks so much for telling me that and for thinking of us. I know what you mean about 'knowing' people as I find that whenever I meet someone from TH-cam 🥰. I could just make pencil pouches and little bags all day long, they are so satisfying to do aren't they.
It has been cold here and even though we are heading to Austria next weekend where it will be colder, it is dry cold rather than our damp cold which gets right to the bones! Hope you stay warm and have a good weekend 🧵😊
That Mickey mouse ears are ADORABLE ❤❤❤❤ Mind if I copy you?
Absolutely no problem at all! Have fun with it. I have done the other one for my daughter now and typically, it is much better 😂. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Hi Carole. Well I was expecting the photo of you in your Hudson Pants to be pretty bad, cos that's what you think/said. Not sure I'm seeing the same as you, they looked good to me. If you're just wearing them round the house why not just finish them off. I don't think there's a problem with the bottom cuffing. We've had a bit of snow up here in West Yorkshire, enough to make the road I live on (which is narrow, unadopted and not many people live on it) into an ice rink, so we've not been out in the car. Unfortunately 🤣 I've had to retreat to my sewing room so I'm hoping the quilt as you go will be finished soon (in the next week). No dressmaking allowed until it's complete. Thanks as ever. Oh and you made me laugh out loud with your impression of "old people".
Thanks so much Ann. I think the colour is the issue for me. I see all these youngsters in lighter colour joggers and think I can get away with it, I can't 🤣. Chris even said to me, why on earth would you make them in pink! However, they are super cosy and warm so they will be worn and yes, I will just finish those cuffs off. I am envious of your snow up there but not if the roads and pavements are icy, I wouldn't leave the house either! Good luck with finishing the quilt. I am thinking about doing Izzy's next series, if I don't get distracted with anything else. Have a great weekend and stay warm. 👵🏼🧵
Hi. Carole. Where was your fat quarter box from?
Sorry Ruth, I normally mention that. I buy it from 'My Sewing Box' in Dorset. I will put the website link in my description box now. Thanks for watching 🧵😊
Your Hudson pants. Can you not just take the ribbing off the legs altogether and just have them with a straight hem.
Thanks so much for your comment. Sadly, even though I am only 5'2 they were too short on me without the cuff!
Good idea though 🧵😊
Ready To Wear has the same issue with fabric choice, I bought joggers that had no stretch in the cuff at a big discount. Luckily, they were long enough to remove the cuff and have a narrow hem. I love your Mickey sweatshirt idea!
