Whoa! Finally.😢 For 10 years I have been waiting for this mystery to be solved. To Darius and his sister Lydia, both of you are heroes in my book. This story is worthy of an epic movie.
Adam, of all the shows you've done, this one is the most feel-good, fairytale-ending stories of them all. It's great to see that all four band members are doing well and have finally been reunited after so many decades. My daughter first told me about the most mysterious song on the Internet about a year ago. She knows I'm an 80s-music kid and thought I'd appreciate it. I told her then that it sounded German but it was only a wild-ass guess. I'm glad to see the mystery solved and thanks for filling in all the gaps. Cheers!
I saw that this was solved about a week ago. and I remembered watching the original video about the most mysterious song. I was like holy crap that's really it. I don't know how you get your information but all this extra stuff is icing on the cake. and what a feel good happy ending that the most mysterious song would bring old friends back together almost 40 years later.
@@ProfessorofRock, that's so true Adam. I'm originally from the UK but emigrated to Canada in 2013. Went back to the UK last year for a wedding and seeing old friends I hadn't seen in over a decade we just picked up exactly where we left off as if no time had passed at all.
Every suspected attribute was correct -- German, obscure, "Like the Wind" in the lyrics, slightly different version/mix than published. True serendipity needed to solve this mystery.
I was in a failed band back in the 80s, we never really got anywhere. But we did go into a local studio and record a song. And amazingly, it got played on local radio at least one time that I know of. I know that I'd be freaked out if I found out someone had recorded it off the radio and stuck it online somewhere. As for 'forgotten' songs, I had completely forgotten about LeBlanc and Carr's song Falling, which came out in 1977. I'd forgotten their name even. But thanks to the internet, i stumbled across the song at some point, I think it was reviewed in somebody's blog, and was able to save and listen to it again after more than 40 years. It may seem dated or cheesy to some people, but it has a very distinctive and atmospheric sound to it that I like.
I loved "Falling" as a kid when it was on regular radio rotation in the 70s, but when the 80s came, it quickly vanished. I still had memories of it, but forgot the artist. I assumed it was Dan Fogelberg, then Poco, but after reviewing their library, no luck. It wasn't until I was in College and had access to Boolean Search that I could research radio station and music release archives that I found LeBlanc & Carr. Ironically enough, a week later, I saw a Time-Life Music commercial for their CD Compilations on TV, and their Soft Rock Hits from the 70s and 80s included this very song. 😅
I recorded a lot of stuff on the radio in the mid to late 80’s. Going through them about 15 years ago, there was one song that I was clueless about. I remembered bits of the chorus, and finally tried to look for it last week. It’s called “Live Is Life” by an Austrian group called Opus. Apparently, it was a major hit in Europe and broke the top 40 here.
Back in early 2000's I was at a nice waterfront bar in Florida where the Austrian owner got on piano and sang that song, (among others),the title was on their merchandise and he started talking to me, nice guy, took care of my entire bar tab and dinner. Now here I'm suddenly realizing he might have been part of that band and I didn't realize it!!!
@ song was stuck in my head for years after I went through the tapes years ago. I just never bothered to look. There was another song from 1988 I was able to find around 2000. “Big Hollow Man” by Danielle Dax. The chorus of that song was stuck in my head for years. Had no idea who it was or what the song name was. Found a lot of stuff from the late 80’s that was forgotten when Grunge hit. Thanks to Napster
@ I think I recorded it on a Tape with Sting’s “Love Is The Seventh Wave”. I think I didn’t know it was Sting until 1999. That’s not one that is considered one of his biggest.
the internet is an AWESOME thing, social media not so much, but this would not have been possible if not for social media so there is that! Great Video Professor!
@@ProfessorofRock Thank you! For your in depth analysis of the music many of us know, but don’t know the back story. And you deliver it in an entertaining way. Many kudos to you.
The 80’s was my era for music and I’ve never heard of the track or the band. Might be because I’m not from Germany. Also, why have an image of the Taylor’s from Duran Duran on the title page of this video? Very misleading.
It’s really awesome that the artists were found. Super happy for them and for what the future holds. Just based on the song, they are super talented! I remember first hearing it and was like holy crap that’s an awesome song and was beginning to think nobody would ever find the musicians.
There was one song that troubled me for decades, and at one point I began to doubt I had ever heard it at all. I was a radio announcer for years, and could never find it in the record library at the station. Then one day I heard it in a TH-cam mix, but there was no playlist for the mix. Finally I found it by listening to the "Hot 100" for every year of the 60's, and 70'. Then there in the 1970 Hot 100 was "Get It On", by Chase
You know, I almost didn’t watch this because I have seen so many false leads, and so many false claims. Really happy that the real band was finally identified. And I kind of hope all the people who lied about it get in some kind of trouble.
The first time this happened to me I was about 10 years old. Me and a friend went to see 'Time Bandits' at the local mall theater; as the credits rolled at the end a song started playing and I instantly loved it. Next week we went and saw that same movie again, except this time no song. I realized it wasn't actually part of the movie and just the theater music system kicking in. My morning bus driver always had a rock station playing (22mi trip) and a few weeks later I finally heard it. That song- Our lips are Sealed. It always reminds me of Time Bandits now.
I watched the movie 'Young Einstein' a lot as a kid. There was a song in it that I loved, but I didn't know what it was called. I was delighted to discover later that it was 'At First Sight' by 'The Stems.'
Before we met , my wife recorded a silly , typical early 80’s popsong from the radio on a mixtape. She had the bad habit of NOT writing down bands or songnames. Come summer of -84 when we became a couple and one afternoon she casually played that tape. ”What’s that song kitty-cat?”. ”I d’now”. 2015 I FOUND IT !!!!! ON TH-cam!!! BY CHANCE !!!! 31 years of search every now and then , and it just pops up in my algoritm : ”Runaway” by One , two , three. It’s a Bobby Orlando project from -83. Now I’ve got the album , the 7” and the extended 12”. Just to be on the safe side. Bitches be crazy !
Congrats FEX!! Best Prof/Rock show EVER!! Really. I guess because it is current and we got to actually be invested in the way it played out, thanks Prof!
Incredible video, maybe my favorite of this station. I’d watched the earlier ones about trying to identify the band and song. The snippet that you played sounded like exactly the type of music I played in the ‘80s and still love today.
man, what a frickin cool story. Reminds me of a couple guys I played with in the teens/20's. I still have some of our old 4 track tapes kicking around. Miss those days.
Literally in tears because of the overflow of joy I'm feeling! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is absolutely the kind of happy story we all need right now! ❤️😭
It took me forever to find a song that was once briefly on KROQ in LA in the early 1990s, and then it just suddenly disappeared. I finally found it... It's called "Tease Me" by Chaka Demus & Pliers... Couldn't believe I finally found it!
@ I googled “Life Is Life” song. First hit I got was a Slovakian band. The music sounded more like a chant you’d expect at a Soviet Rally, but the lyrics sounded familiar, so I looked up more info and saw it was a cover of an Austrian group. Looked on TH-cam for the video. And there it was. Ironically, it was on a tape that I had also recorded Dr. Demento.
@@ProfessorofRock Just constantly combed online using some of the lyrics that finally came back to me after many years. I remembered it was a reggae type song and that was it just about it....
This reminded me of the story of Rodriguez. He was the hero in the documentary "Searching for Sugarman." As with S.for Sugarman, you made it clear that this story is also about the seekers, Darius and Lydia, who allowed the story to see the light. What a gift the 2 gave this former band. Cheers!
What a great outcome! I just hope the new version won't be pitch-corrected or Auto-Tuned. It's the standard these days, at least in the US, and that sucks.
I remember hearing “Bloodletting” by Concrete Blonde on the radio late at night in the 90s and loved it but had no idea who it was for years (pre-internet as we know it today). Speaking of…Concrete Blonde episode? “Joey” maybe? Such an underrated band!!
@@matthewsan78, "Joey" is such a fantastic song. You can hear the pain in singer Johnette Napolitano's amazing voice. The lines "I used to cry till I was dry" and "Joey, if you're hurting so am I" tells of a deep pain that can only come from someone who has had the real life experience of suffering in silence whilst being in love with an alcoholic who, no matter how many chances she's given him, just cannot quit the drink, and has finally accepted their relationship will forever be that way.
I am a huge 1966 Batman fan and when I was a kid, and indeed sometimes today, i listen to the Batman Albums of The Dynamic Batmen, the Batboys and the Revengers. Today, there is no record of who these artists are and not even the labels exist anymore. So there's that😮
For me, my mystery song was one that I think should have been an 80's classic but never even charted. Myles Goodwyn was the lead singer from the Canadian band April Wine. He joined forces with Heavy Metal Queen Lee Aaron and they recorded, "Do You Know What I Mean!" I loved this song when it first came out but it never stuck and quickly faded. When I tried to remember it later in life, I was lost. I couldn't remember him, her, or the name of the song; just a few of the catchy lyrics, and even a few of those I got wrong. It's a song that once you listen to it, it becomes an earworm you can't get rid of; it's pure 80's gold. I lucked out by listening to an Allanah Myles song and the name Myles stuck in my head and lead me down the right rabbit hole. Listen to the song and you will understand why it's so addictive.

I love thinking that you had a hand in solving this mystery. It can’t be a coincidence that you did a show on it and less than a year later the mystery was solved.

The Professor’s influence stretches around The Globe! I know that there are hundreds, if not thousands of REDDIT groups, & Sub REDDIT factions that look at everything under the sun. But when it comes to Rock N Roll Minutiae, Mystery, or just a new twist on an old tale, in the three years or so that I’ve been a subscriber to this channel, Adam Reader has redefined the genre of Rock N Roll trivia, nostalgia, in depth research etc… he won’t take too much credit, but we know. I’ve commented many times, that he may have covered a song or a band that I’ve known, but never had a specific connection to, and resisted the temptation to skip an episode because of that… but made myself listen, only to become engrossed in the episode, & discover a new appreciation for a band’s story, or an understanding of a song that I had previously been ambivalent about. So, from The Whole Class; Thank You Professor, for YOUR Three Chords and the Truth My Friend.
Hi Adam. Jst want to go off topic for a minute. Remember when we discussed John Stewart several days back? I mentioned that Pat Boone had covered Stewart's Never Going Back on The Beverly Hillbillies TV show. That episode played on MeTV last night. Boone's performance kinda sucked the life out of the song, but it was nice to hear anything from John besides Daydream Believer. Thanks for listening. Have a great day.
I love, love, love this story! 😂 Every clip you played of their songs sound fantastic. I hope Fex will make albums and go on tours. Such an interesting mystery solved.
Ok. I've got one for the "who does this song/what is this song called" thing. Back in the summer of 1990, there was a song played on a local radio station. I don't know if it was a national phenomenon, but I always felt it may've been. It was a song that I always thought was called "Do The Bart Simpson". (Before anybody thinks I'm confusing it with "Do The Bartman" by Bart Simpson, I promise you, it's not that. This came out in I believe 1991.) I recorded it off the radio. It was a rap song, by some male artist. There were female backing vocals, as well. It was heavily sampled with dialogue from the first season. The dj commented afterwards that he didn't even know where they'd gotten the song from. He didn't know who did the song, it's official name(although if it WAS "Do The Bart Simpson", it wouldn't surprise me.), or anything related. It seemed to exist only on radio. Never heard it on tv, never saw product in stores. Now, THIS is a mystery!
I graduated high school in ‘91 and I remember that song! Only heard it once or twice, but I definitely remember it and it was different from the one by Bart.
Hey! So, this got my curiosity and I did a random search on TH-cam and it came up. Look for "do the bart simpson" title and you should find it. I listened to it and I do vaguely remember hearing it on the radio. It's a staticky recording but there doesn't seem to be any other clear versions uploaded. I looked into it further and found it was done by a dj that put jingles and some parodies together. His name was Rusty Humphries. For what I read this song was the inspiration to lead to the song "do the bartman".
I'd imagine Peter Murphy may have know of Fex. Is it a coincidence that "cuts you up" reminds me of "subway in your mind". Or perhalps that Peter named one of his songs "Subway"?

....you KNOW Prof. didn't sleep when he found out who did the TUNES! ....He was possibly like, *"....wheeeeeeeeee!!!"* ....ha-HAAA!!
Hes good.
THanks!
Al Bundy would be proud. ''Mmm Hmm, Him.''
🤣🤣🤣🤘
I love that episode
!
It's, "Go with him..."
Al actually said:"Go with him, go with him!" He had actual words, not melodies or sound effects, and they'd never heard of it! 😂😂😂
Whoa! Finally.😢 For 10 years I have been waiting for this mystery to be solved. To Darius and his sister Lydia, both of you are heroes in my book. This story is worthy of an epic movie.
This story should be a Hollywood movie.
Hollywood would ruin it!! I’d like to see a well done documentary tho!!
So great for these guys to get some closure and to reunite once again. Time doesn't erase those key memories
We all have those friends that we don't see for 20 years and pick up right where we left off! Sounds like that's what happened here.
@@ProfessorofRock Sure does. There is something about getting together with old friends and sharing long thought of memories
@@ProfessorofRock hell i’m impressed they remembered & could still play it!
I’m so happy for them.
@@ProfessorofRock, that's so true Adam. I'm originally from the UK but emigrated to Canada in 2013. Went back to the UK last year for a wedding and seeing old friends I hadn't seen in over a decade we just picked up exactly where we left off as if no time had passed at all.
This story was made for you. Heart, perseverance, chance, mystery and validation. Well done.
They probably never imagined this song would become an internet mystery.
Right? It's such a cool ending!
They probably never thought that they too would be a mystery.
Back then, they probably never imagined "the internet!"
I know, right! Same with the Ulterior Motives people.
Every suspected attribute was correct -- German, obscure, "Like the Wind" in the lyrics, slightly different version/mix than published. True serendipity needed to solve this mystery.
You can say that again! Love it!
I thought “Like the Wind” would be the song title!
Oh yes I have heard Falling. I don’t think that much of the song, but it’s okay I guess.
Yet one of the prime reasons this is one of the best channels on TH-cam, musical related! Thanks PoR, we share your enthusiasm.
Really nice to see all four members get back together. What an unexpected event for them. Great work Adam and great story.
Prof, I don't think I've ever seen you happier in an intro! Can't wait to watch this after work! I've been following this, too!
Cool!
Phenomenal!!! This is too cool!!! Things like this reminds us of what a wonderful tool the internet is...
Right? I was so pumped!
The internet is a positive force.
I'll check it out! Thanks!
Yeah, that Opus track was huge all over Europe, and got played to the point of driving everyone crazy. 😄
@ I think I recorded it on a
Tape with Sting’s “Love Is The Seventh Wave”. I think I didn’t know it was Sting until 1999. That’s not one that is considered one of his biggest.
the internet is an AWESOME thing, social media not so much, but this would not have been possible if not for social media so there is that!
Great Video Professor!
Couldn't agree more!
What a great feel good episode!! Fex getting rediscovered after so long is beautiful!
Its almost like the story of Rodrigo Searching for Sugar Man ! True touching story!
We are going to call you today. We were coming home last night and tried but we had no service.
Rodriguez. Sixto Rodriguez of Detroit, MI. Great artist
The generational gap is apparent here. I’m 60 and had never heard this song before hearing it on your channel. Love your videos. Peace
Thanks Daniel!
@@ProfessorofRock Thank you! For your in depth analysis of the music many of us know, but don’t know the back story. And you deliver it in an entertaining way. Many kudos to you.
Same
The 80’s was my era for music and I’ve never heard of the track or the band. Might be because I’m not from Germany. Also, why have an image of the Taylor’s from Duran Duran on the title page of this video? Very misleading.
Fex reunion? That would be awesome 🙌🏻
You have no idea how much i needed this closure since seeing your original video on thsi song.
Well gang, that wraps up another mystery.
They would have gotten away with it too,if it hadn't been for those meddling kids.
What about all those people that falsely claimed it was their song???
We can only hope they receive the internet retribution they deserve :D
I'm looking forward to what the Statues in Motion vocalist has to say after it's been proved he was lying
@@teresarivasugaz2313He's got some 'splainin' to do!
What a great year!! First we learn Ulterior Motives and now Subways of Your Mind! Thank you for doing what you do.
Excellent episode! That song has been bugging me since I first heard about it. So nice to have the mystery solved at last.
WICKED COOL!!! I saw the title and hoped it was this one!! Most excellent!!! STOKED!!! Beautiful song and beautiful story!!
Congrats FEX!! Best Prof/Rock show EVER!! Really. I guess because it is current and we got to actually be invested in the way it played out, thanks Prof!
A documentary needs to be made. Reminds me of the documentary film, search for Sugar Man. Thanks Professor. Cheers from Australia
This is so Awesome!! Great work Sleuths!
Subways of your mind is a great song- thanks Adam for covering this!!
Incredible video, maybe my favorite of this station. I’d watched the earlier ones about trying to identify the band and song. The snippet that you played sounded like exactly the type of music I played in the ‘80s and still love today.
So glad to have been a part of this search, even if was just a short time!
Thank you for this! I will be looking for any recordings they release. Love the sounds I have heard.
man, what a frickin cool story. Reminds me of a couple guys I played with in the teens/20's. I still have some of our old 4 track tapes kicking around. Miss those days.
One of the best feel-good stories I've seen in a very long time. Thank you once again Professor!
Literally in tears because of the overflow of joy I'm feeling! Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is absolutely the kind of happy story we all need right now! ❤️😭
fantastic news. it took 40 years but finally they got the success they deserved. many thanks to Lydi for not giving up.
It took me forever to find a song that was once briefly on KROQ in LA in the early 1990s, and then it just suddenly disappeared. I finally found it... It's called "Tease Me" by Chaka Demus & Pliers... Couldn't believe I finally found it!
KROQ before Grunge killed it. I remember those days….
How'd you find it?
@ I googled “Life Is Life” song. First hit I got was a Slovakian band. The music sounded more like a chant you’d expect at a Soviet Rally, but the lyrics sounded familiar, so I looked up more info and saw it was a cover of an Austrian group. Looked on TH-cam for the video. And there it was. Ironically, it was on a tape that I had also recorded Dr. Demento.
@@ProfessorofRock Just constantly combed online using some of the lyrics that finally came back to me after many years. I remembered it was a reggae type song and that was it just about it....
Where at?
This reminded me of the story of Rodriguez. He was the hero in the documentary "Searching for Sugarman." As with S.for Sugarman, you made it clear that this story is also about the seekers, Darius and Lydia, who allowed the story to see the light. What a gift the 2 gave this former band. Cheers!
Glad that this is now solved. So what is the new “Most mysterious song on the internet”?
We need to find a new one!
give the lost media community a little time. They'll find something.
CIA or Light the Lanterns
I'll do a piece on it!
@@ProfessorofRock Sweet. It's a great song and it has a cool background.
Can't forget Lee Aaron.
They were Canadian I think. I hade one of their albums but I can't remember the name of it. I did play it to death.
No way!!! How awesome. What a way to begin my day. ❤every morning at 6am I wake up and the first thing I do is watch the professor. First thing. This is how I start off my day. This morning. I woke up and seen this and I was awake with a quickness. This is so cool. 😎

I am just so elated!
I was reminded of the story of Sixto Rodriguez.
Being a teen myself in the 80’s and all the 80’s nostalgia, this story would be a cool documentary. Include the band history and the whole search. I bet people would watch. Or should I say more like a Netflix movie. Your show is a documentary.

2 songs come to mind that took a while… “Oh Nicole” by Point Break and even more so, “I Could Be Good For You” by 707!! If I think of any more, I’ll be sure to post ‘em here.
707 "I could be good for you" was my favorite song back in the day. That song is still in my playlist.
So, from The Whole Class;

Same!
What the hell are you smoking?
Pass it my way.
@JamminClemmons I'm dead serious. No imagination involved.
@@MahaliaMD73 Thank you!
Oh, I am so glad this mystery is solved!! I've been following it for several years. Thanks for breaking the good news!
I'd imagine Peter Murphy may have know of Fex. Is it a coincidence that "cuts you up" reminds me of "subway in your mind". Or perhalps that Peter named one of his songs "Subway"?
That dark, moody sound was very common at the time.
