    I can say I've had the same issue for 3 years replaced every sensor cleaned all grounds then resoldered the ecm contacts like you did, but didn't work almost a year later I pulled the brain back out and resoldered at hot temp and that fixed it. I love my jeep and am so glad I didn't have to get rid of it. So this absolutely will work just make sure the solder points are properly melted and contacted, so good luck guys

      Yeah,they're pretty good vehicles. They just have some little quirks here and there. Same thing with alot of Mopar vehicles. Along with the electrical issues,Mopar and GM used soybean plastic insulation on the wiring since at least the early 90's. Rodents love to chew on the wiring in these vehicles. I have an S10 p/u and rodents attacked my CPU wiring in that and I also have a 96 ZJ. Rodents chewed up the fuel injector wiring in that. A friend at work has a 99 Dakota. Rodents,probably mice? Chewed up the wiring on that too causing intermittent electrical issues. I had no idea so many people have rodent problems with these vehicles. I went to the wrecking yard to get a wiring harness for my S10 and alot of them had rodent damage on the wiring too. I've never even seen a rat or a mouse around here. Well,besides the dead ones that my cat occasionally leaves at the front door.

    This absolutely 100% works. My son's 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo had all of the symptoms. We replaced the crankshaft position sensor, coil pack, etc., and still ended up with random stalling issues. Last mechanic we took it to said we needed to replace the PCM. I found this video, resoldered all of the pinout connections and it hasn't stalled since. Works perfect.

    Thank you for this fix. I had a refurbished pcm that i paid for $400 dollars. I had been chasing this check engine light for 2 years after getting the new pcm. I didnt believe it was the pcm because i thought getting it new it couldnt possibly be my issue. I opened it up to see the worst soldering job of my life. One of the solder spots didnt have any solder and had burnt plastic on the pin. It was the 11th pin from the right going left. I had a p1391 code and random dying. This fixed it

    This guy is 100% correct. The aluminum plate is a HUGE problem that dissapates all of the heat from the soldering iron. This dude's soldering work is actually gorgeous!
    You will need at the MINIMUM a 60 watt iron, or a soldering gun to do this job. It takes a bit of patience, but by the time you get to the 4th terminal, your work will get much better quality wise. Pretty isn't important... making a bad connection good is!
    I've done this on 3 separate modules...

    My brother started having a cut off problem but thought it was the coil so he replaced but it wasn't, it was still shutting off. We checked youtube for a problem and everything pointed towards the Crankshaft Positioning Sensor so we changed it, but nope. So we checked out your simple fix, just shortened up the (2) T-15 bolts holding the inside board to the outside and wallah. Was getting a code but it even fixed it. Thanks.

    If your jeep starts then it might not be the crank position sensor. These year's jeeps are bad about percolating the fuel. They have no return line in the fuel log. That area gets really hot as the jeep runs. Check the fuel pressure not enough will cause: long start times, stalling at red lights, at speed, backfires, bucking. When your jeep dies for shez and giggles bleed out the fuel line at the fuel log schrader valve (with a rag please, or gas will go everywhere remember its: hot, and might be steam, or boiling) and then key on and start the jeep and see what happens if it runs people might think you know whats wrong with it. They do have problems with cold solder joints everywhere at pcm, and headlight controls, bad corroded grounds you gotta ,check it all ,clean it all ,or solder it all

    Thanks for your time to post this. I have had the same problem however as in recent posts, some have said to tighten the pcm mounting bolts and use locktite. If this doesn't work for me, I'll go further and do what you did. Thanks again.

    • @mickeycars
      @mickeycars  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      nwolf682 You can try That but The reason why they told you to tighten the bolts is to put more pressure on the PCM because of the false contact that's why I took it apart and re-soldered the whole thing

    I did this on my 98 ZJ this weekend. After reading various posts about the issue. My symptoms are the same as most people's. What made me look at the ECM was I noticed when it acted up the gauges were dropping too. I had code P0351 which can be caused by the ECM.Pin number 2 had been overheated and the solder melted out of the joint. So far it has 3 hours run time with no issues.

Have the same code p0351 was looking into the ignition coil and crank shaft sensor at first but after messing with the wires near the pcm while it was running it died on me. Ganna open the pcm and try soldering, curious to see if it’s a lasting solution!

  • @andrewevanoff1192
    @andrewevanoff1192 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I noticed you had a long crank issue. Get a can of "Seafoam" at Walmart's automotive department (next to all the fuel cleaners) and pour it into the gas tank. Read the instructions on the can. Do not refill gas tank until most of the treated fuel is used up. This will clean the fuel system and the pressure regulator inside the tank that causes fuel pressure drop after the car sits for several hours or more. Do this at least once every 10,000 miles. Do not put Seafoam into oil. Use it to treat gasoline only.

    • @mickeycars
      @mickeycars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Evanoff yes I noticed that but it was not the fuel system that it was clock or nothing like that the problem was on the air intake right at the idling Control valve, he was really disgusting full of crud and oil I clean it and now I got a short crank but thank you for the advice anyways

    I've had the video board on my computer die several times. I take the processor off and anything plastic off, put it in the oven 400 for 7 minutes. This softens up the solder connections and refuses them. So far so good. It could also be done with this board no doubt. You crunch up 4 pieces of tin foil to put under the circuit board to allow the heat to get to both sides. Put the board on a baking tin. There are videos here on youtube if you search baking or cooking video card.

    • @mickeycars
      @mickeycars  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Martial 3231 I will not recommend anybody to put this computer PCM in the oven at 400° you could damage some of the components on this computer have connectors made out of plastic so it’s better for you to take it apart inside her every single connection by hand hope this will help you

    Have been having stalling at lights and while driving randomly in our 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee for the last few weeks. Mechanic replaced ignition coil and crank shaft sensor; still stalling while driving around town. Took it out on the freeway for a 45 min drive and no stalling to and back. Just crazy but now he will look at PCM

  • @wesleybryan238
    @wesleybryan238 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When you are encountering this shutting down issues, will you receive a fault code that will then lead you to the PCM? I am having the same random cutting out on my 2004 G Cherokee Lorado but I don’t believe I have any codes. Also the vehicle will start up right away no issues. What’s everybody’s advise.

    i have a 99 jeep cherokee. same problem, intermittently shuts off, runs rough, a couple times just shuts down and wont start. everyone with this problem should jump the ignition switch red and blue wire. put a switch between the jump so you can turn it off and on. drive the car with the switch on and see if this takes care of your problem. if it does then its your ignition switch, not the key tumbler, but the switch box that the wire connector plugs into. about a $40 part. i went through a lot cleaning grounds, new coil, cap, and wires, checking wire looms and it ended up being the ignition switch. my problem was intermittent so i put the jumper switch on and drove for a few weeks without a problem before i spent the $ for the switch. hope this helps someone

      @Hugo, same here but I had lose wire bundles coming out of the PCM, and another wire we cut and retaped tight, replaced Ignition coil, Ignition switch, crankshaft sensor and cam sensor, cleaned the negative ground contacts. I still need to get dealer part for the wire bundles, auto repair stores don't carry them, so have to wait and hope it does not stall, cut off, or no start again really fucking sucks man, but got to try everything god damn thing till it finally works.

I’ve got a 1996 grand Cherokee 4L and the damn thing just won’t start, she cranks but won’t fire up as has no spark and I’ve tested everything and I suspect the PCM is playing up? Does my problem point towards a PCM as well? Try to check the pressure of the fuel going in the injectors you might have a problem in the fuel line or it could be a bad coil to if that truck have a coil

      Better get a scanner. If it stalls after being run for ten minutes, that would seem to be coming up to operating temperature....shut it off again for an hour , and it cools down . You may want to see sensors data before firing the parts cannon at it.

      Sonia Scott hi there sorry for the delay, the problem is not the battery the problem is on the alternator you have to go to a place if you don’t have the right tool to test the alternator I will recommend you to go to advance auto parts or AutoZone they will test the alternator for you most likely the regulator it’s burn on the alternator.
      If the alternator checked OK , you need to make sure that the type of battery you bought is the right one for your car.
      If both the alternator and the battery checked OK I will recommend you to take the battery to a different car similar to yours and tested there or get your battery and get it tested at Advance auto parts or AutoZone.

      If you can’t get the 5v reference you probably need to go deeper, in that case you need to open the other have of the computer, is a little sticky but it can be done just fo it slow , inside you will find more connectors and another circuit board , check on the connections to see if they need to be fix and you can test visually if any component is burn or you can use a tester to test them .
      Hope this info help , let me know if you need more help 👍

      Carlos202035 change your ignition coil. Contacts on the inside tend to wear off due to excessive use causing vehicle to stall or shut off completly.

    I got a 2000 grand cherokee v8. Stalls roughs idle takes forever to start sometimes keeps missing takes forever to accelerate have to feather the gas to get up to speed.

      Nate Ellis, did you figure it out? Mine does this too. And when I’m going up a hill, I will have full power.. then out of nowhere it starts misfiring. And all power is lost. If I leave it idle, it will misfire after a while then shut off unless I press the gas. If the Jeep is warm, it will not start back up until either it cools down a little? Or fuel pressure goes down? I’m not sure.

    Never buy a used computer off ebay or a yard Simply because the Vin number is flashed into the PCM so if you buy a used pcm with a different Vin number programmed on it’s going to have funky issue there are companies that sell refurbished re-flashed PCM’s off your cars vin there one company in North Carolina is ideal

      Yes you can do that , there is a lot of websites they can do that for you and all you have to do is give them your Vin number and they’ll program it for you and all you have to do is connected and you all set
