Didn't realise the increase in PiTool Render Quality actually increased the headset sweet spot but that would make sense and why people were recommending PiTool Render of 1.75 or 2 but with SteamVR Video at 25% and App setting also 25% (bringing down the individual titles per eye render target resolution but giving good clarity).
Thanks for the Video! I would like to ad that, if you allready have scratches in your display you can give it a try with "polywatch"(the plastic version). You need to clean your display, wipe the polywatch for about 3 min with a little power in circles. On my old Pimax it solved all scratches, even a deep one from my glasses. So before you use the liguid glass, make sure to fix that scratches. @NextGenVR: As long as i keep following you, you have a high level of content, now for a while you changed the kind of presentation to the same level! Keep going and thanks for bringing as this content!
Subbed! I also work with Pimax direct, however this is the first time ive heard about the Rendering Quality changing the sweet spot. I wrote a guide to modding iRacing's ini files, PiTool settings, Nvidia settings, etc for iRacing. Since I use 90 Hz Native Mode, I don't really have any headroom left - however I can try lowering the SteamVR settings to compensate and see if it makes an improvement. (Also ordered the Liquid Glass from your link. Thanks for that tip as well! Another first for me :) )
@NextGenVR WOW 😮 It works REALLY WELL IN iRACING!!! I experimented but went with 1.5 and 50% in Steam and it’s like the sweet spot is a good 5 times larger. I no longer need to make quick adjustments to the HMD on my face, mid race… such an improvement!!! Let me know if you ever get into sim racing… iRacing on the 8Kx in an open wheel Formula style car is unlike anything I’ve experienced!
I tried the liquid glass and though it's nice to have peace of mind that the lenses are (apparently) somewhat protected a bit more (no way of proving they are), I can't really say that it did anything to improve clarity any more than cleaning your lenses with a microfiber cloth does which quickly smudges up with use again after the liquid glass application (as it did before the application) requiring another cleaning anyway (to prepare the lenses for the liquid glass you have to thoroughly clean the lenses which is the same temporary effect).. can you say there is a lasting improvement in clarity after applying the liquid glass yourself? I'm not really convinced there is, unless purchasing more liquid glass and applying a second time will have a more noticeable effect?
The biggest issues on pimax are the smallest IPD limit. Im a tall guy and have a IPD of 63.The pimax can only go to 68 lowest. Makes the image very blurry. This is a big problem
Not sure that you know this but you can set different profiles for each VR title both in PiTool as well as the Experience. In PiTool under Games it defaults to Common Settings. That is actually a drop down menu that allows you to pick each VR title and make settings specific to that tile. The trick is, then you have to launch the VR title from PiTool for those specific settings to work with that title. It’s just like doing settings in VR Experience in VR except on the desktop instead. Also I think you are speaking much more naturally now too instead of sounding like a robot reading from a script. Keep up the good work! :-)
I now have an 8K+ and an 8KX. Set the same backlight brightness 100%, why 8KX brightness is much dimmer than 8K+. Is this normal? Is it the power supply?
@UCxCMJsygmme01DG2jKCgUkg I was able to get x Diealed in and sharp. Definitely within striking distance of the g2. I'm wowed in both headsets just more clarity across the entire lenz of the g2. It's funny that you like the g2 over the x for flight sims. I can see the controlls equally in both but the g2 seems to render the cockpits something like 15% smaller than the x. it's really noticable that the world scale in the g2 is off across the board. Ams 2, Squadrons, even regular games like Medal of honor, I immediately noticed that my character model was almost 1:1 in the x while in the g2 it was was smaller.. While sim racing, being able to feel like your in an actual race and on the track with other cars, trump's perfect clarity in a tunnel. But I still think the x should be $999 just for the headset being as there is a headset with better clarity and lenses.
Thanks, Can you please also make a video about how the Backlight in 8K X works and why it is so important to set it correctly, and how to make sure it's working. Maybe it's a newbie topic but I found myself completely blank about this knowledge :))
Damn! your Pimax affiliate link came 2 weeks too late for me. Ordered my 8Kx early Jan and should be coming next week.. Will look out for your links next time. Thanks for the tips. Cheers..
Thanks for the video and great tips.. is there a tutorial or guide anywhere on how to safely apply the liquid glass screen protector onto the 8kx lenses? Putting a liquid onto the lenses sounds daunting if not done correctly and ruins them.. also if you increase the render quality in pitool/ the pimax vr experience don't you subsequently have to lower the resolution in steam vr? In steam vr 100% resolution was somehow set to easy way more than 3840 x 2160 4k resolution for some reason.. what do you have your 8k steam vr resolution set to at 100%? Thank you for any feedback
The instructions are provided with the lens protector product. Basically you first use the cleaning wipe, buff with provided microfiber cloth, let the lens dry and then apply the liquid glass wipe, let culture for 30min and then buff off with the fiber cloth.
Could my 8k x be defective? I cannot focus on objects with the headset on, regardless of where the ipd slider is placed. I have also tried the horizontal and vertical offsets but they don't seem to help at all. :( Sucks because I really enjoy everything about the headset minus the ipd/focusing issues. I get nasty crosseyedness and headaches with the headset on. I have a normal ipd btw (64)
Hi, crosseyedness means the lenses are too far from each other. You have to reduce headset IPD. It takes some time to get the right adjustment. my IPD is 67. I had to change the facial foam for the thinnest, set the physical IPD wheel down to 61 (almost minimum), and play with horizontal and vertical offset quite a lot. I had to put horizontal offset down to -3.5 or so (figures are inverted between Pitool and Pimax experience in my config), and vertical offset down to -2.9 each eye.
@@NextGenVR that's the situation I didn't get into so haven't tried this new firmware yet but do you think it's worth the risk? like is it really improve the image as compared to 255.292?
Thanks for the video, I'll try those later. Have you tried Microsoft flight sim? I'd love to see a video on it. Maybe optimised settings if you can actually get it to run.
You know if running it at 1.25 but then lowering the game resolution will end up balancing out or will it still give the appearance of a clearer sweet spot? Seems like there is still a lot of confusion around this?
I think 1.25 render quality will improve the image more than supersampling. So you can leave supersampling at 100% or lower and get better overall image. You can experiment. Increasing render quality has a higher performance hit than supersampling though.
@@aprile1710 It might change where the pixels are budgeted in the distortion correction. No headset renders 1:1, the image goes through processing to make the geometry correct, and there are probably ways to do it differently to prioritize middle or edges.

mine seems to have gotten stuck at 98. Headset lights are flashing green, blue, red and it's been there for a while.
Contact Pimax support and ask them for firmware to unbrick.
