    Useful since I have been wanting to have a car based mobile repeater. Would be interesting to see if I could connect a computer to this to handle the repeater callsign broadcasting and have some sort of remote control to it.

    Nice explanation, but while different frequencies are used in different parts of the country or around the world, it would be best to select frequencies other than the two used in the demo. 144.3 MHz is in the nominal SSB/CW/Digital weak signal portion of the band and 435.125 MHz is in the satellite portion of the 70 cm band. Rules and regulations notwithstanding, global bandplans pretty much discourage wideband digital and FM operation as shown even without the crossband repeater mode.
    Local, regional and national bandplans should be checked.

    Can this be used to crossband a UHF simplex channel into a VHF repeater? For example, we use 146.910 for our repeater (with a transmit on 146.310). Can I set one channel to 446.45 simplex, and have it crossband into the repeater on the other channel?

    Thanks for taking the time to make & posting this video but I’m confused. If your HT has the ability to transmit on one band and receive on the opposite and visa-verses, wouldn’t that negate the need for a cross band repeater ? My understanding of the need for such a repeater would be if you had one person or group operating on VHF (single band) radios that needed to establish communications with a second person or group operating on UHF (single band) radios ?. Correct ????

      Not so. The idea is line of sight and relative lower powers associated between the two handhelds, with a repeater it won’t matter. Park the vehicle to where all your handhelds have line of sight to it. It’s so the handhelds can communicate with each other using their relatively low native 5 watt power into the "repeater" retransmitting on a higher power so that anyone with line of sight can use it. Remember, if two people are within line of sight to each other they can talk simplex on the output freq, of the repeater, "talk around channel" so they don’t tie up the repeater but can still hear it in case someone far away is trying to reach them. This setup as shown falls down when your people only have mono band radios. A hilltop repeater is a “station" with an associated call sign. This mobile repeater is “owned" by whomever set it up and is acting as net control operator using their call sign. It’s up to the net control to always maintain line of sight in order to I’d the station. Some mobile rigs will identify themselves using net controls call sign programmed into the radio via Morse code at programmed intervals or upon tx activity after prolonged silence.

    I am a little confused about this video. The HT's are set to receive on 433.00 but transmit on 144.300. My experience in other crossbanding experiences (Yaesu VX-7r and FT-8800) is that the HT transmits AND receives on the same 70cm frequency. The mobile functions in cross-band mode by 1) receiving a signal on 2m (from another station or repeater) and simultaneously transmit on 70cm (to the locl HT), and 2) receive a signal on 70cm (from the HT) and transmit on 2m (to another station or repeater). It seems that with the HT receiving on 70 cm and transmitting on 2m, you aren't utilizing the crossband on your transmit at all, which is the fundamental benefit of cross band - using a low power (1-5w) HT local to the mobile and leveraging the 50-75w TX power of the mobile to extend reach (as well as utilizing an antenna with positive gain).

    I hope the questions that were put forth within the live stream, are answered and provided somewhere that we, the users, can access.
    Where are questions like these that are presented in a live stream later answered?

  • @bob76451

    There are 2 requirements for local control, and a 3rd requirement for remote control of a repeater. 1) The repeater must self-identify on all frequencies that it transmits on every 10 minutes. 2) The radio must have an automatic shutoff if an error condition occurs on the repeater for longer than 3 minutes, and 3) if you are not in local control of the repeater, there must be some method to remotely control the repeater that is available at all times (i.e. not on its transmit or receive frequencies). If the radio is unable to meet these requirements, then it is not legal to use as a repeater.

    Can the AT-578UVIII repeat (cross band) from Channel A VHF to Channel B 224 Mhz? I can repeat VHF to UHF as per your instructions, but want to repeat to 224.920. Turning on Repeater gives a red message All VHF ana Not Supported. Is 224Mhz considered VHF or UHF? Thank you Ken W5CGP

      Have you been able to figure out how to transmit onto 220mhz?

    • @afoot4silver800
      @afoot4silver800 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      VHF 30-300MHz, even 50 MHz (6 Meters) falls into this range often called vhf low band. So 220MHz is definitely VHF. From what you are saying xband 220 is not supported. It might be a part 90 thing, dunno. I do know part of the 220 band is reserved for remote controlling of some stations.
